(2021·浙江·模拟预测)Fifteen volunteers have emerged from a cave in the southwest of France after spending 40 days without clocks, phones, or sunlight for a human isolation experiment.
The group of eight men and seven women lived in a cave as part of a $1.4 million project called Deep Time, which set out to explore the limits of human adaptability to isolation.
During their time in the cave, the volunteers slept in tents and made their own electricity with a pedal bike since there was no natural light. They also drew water from a well 146 feet below the earth. Since there was no sunlight, the team had to follow their biological clocks to know when to sleep, eat, or do daily tasks. To no one's surprise, they quickly lost their sense of time.
The group had no communication with the outside world and was not able to use phones or other electronic devices. One volunteer, Johan Francois, said he ran 10-kilometer circles in the cave to stay fit. He told reporters he had "instinct urges" to leave the cave.
But other volunteers felt differently, with two-thirds saying they wanted to stay in the cave for longer. "For once in our lives, it was as if we could press pause," said Marina Lançon, one of seven women in the experiment. However, she admitted it was also great to be outdoors and hear birdsong again.
Scientists monitored the volunteers closely during their time in the cave. They would regularly check the team's sleeping patterns, social interactions, and cognitive functions via sensors. The volunteers' brain activity was also collected before and after they entered the cave.

(2021·广东顺德·一模)Madison stared through the window and watched a puffy white cloud pass over the woods across from the school. It must be wonderful to be a bird, she thought. Total freedom. No math class to sit in, and her days would be spent on horseback. She thought of her horse, Star.
“Madison. Could you please join us again?” Mrs. Smith said. “I was just asking the class if anyone had any problems with the homework assignment.”
“Well, I didn’t have any problems doing it, but I had problems remembering to put it in my school bag after I did it.” Some giggling spread through the room.
“Madison. I don’t know what I am going to do with you. You’re such a smart girl but you just don’t apply yourself. Class, clear your desks. Our guest is here and welcome Doctor Landon. He is a veterinarian (兽医). He came here today as part of our continued Career Explorations Program.”

Doctor Landon nodded. “I travel with my truck to take care of horses and ponies across the county. It is a lot of work, but I love it.”
Madison’s mouth fell open. What a life that must be, she thought. At that moment, sitting in class, Madison could see her future and her life suddenly seemed bigger. (2021·上海宝山·二模)People are motivated to do activities by many different factors. For me the main factors that are involved are competition, the desire for achieving greatness, the satisfaction of completing projects, and enjoyment.
Since I am a twin, a sense of competition is deep rooted in my brain. Healthy competition can push us to do fantastic things. It makes us strive for a certain goal and gets us to do things faster. However, I do not think competition should become harmful. When anger, frustration, and depression is a result of competition, it is not healthy. Yet, competition can bring about respect, friendship, and mutual gain. In the case with my twin brother, we have pushed ourselves to be good at sports, music, school, and even at work. This competitive spirit has leaked into my life without my twin around. In a sense, I reproduce my twin brother in other people. I always try to be number one at whatever I do—or at least in the top three. There are times this attitude becomes unhealthy, as I get frustrated if I give everything to a competition or activity and produce only average results. But as the years passed, I have gotten better at handling failure and defeat. All in all, I think I finish and do well in many areas of my life for the simple fact that I want to do well in them. The feeling of doing well against competent opponents is satisfying.
I enjoy the feeling of completing an important project. For instance, last year, I finished a poetry collection with my late father’s poems and my own poems. It was an honor to him and his work. In a way, I felt that his death was not in vain and that his work was proved even more through this collection. It is hard to describe the moment of knowing when such an important project is set to rest: it is almost like you are ready to die. You sense that a chapter of your life has closed and you are now a new person. These deep emotions motivate me to complete projects on a regular basis.
The simplest factor that motivates me to do something is enjoyment. There are people who do activities they do not enjoy for decades. I am not one of those people. I can work on tasks I do not like for a while, but in the end, my main focus should be on something that I enjoy. If I find joy in doing a certain work, I engage in it for a large part of the day, or even all day without tiring. Tiredness in most cases, in my life, is due to a lack of enjoyment in the work being done.
Each person has his or her own motivating factors. I hope this reflection has allowed you to dip deeper into your true nature.

(2021·广东·河源市河源中学二模)One beautiful day, I showed up for work, where I had just been promoted. I was right in the middle of training a new girl, when my boss asked to talk to me for a second. After that conversation, you can effectively cross “had a good job" off my comfortable living checklist. No warning. In fact, just the month before I had received my fifth Employee of the Month award. I was speechless and so was everyone else. Seven of us were cut from my department that day. Later, I would discover that there were thousands of cuts companywide. I worked at a bank. A failing one.
When something like this happens to you, it's natural to ask why. I reviewed all my work accomplishments. I thought about how I had been a top performer every month since I was hired and about how they gave me the highest rating on my review. What had I done wrong? What could I have done better?
The truth is that sometimes we search for a logical explanation in a situation that can’t be understood. The only way to move past it is to have confidence in the job you did as an employee and understand that you are a victim of an unfortunate circumstance.
Speaking of writing, with all of the extra time on my hands, I reunited with the long lost love of my life: writing.
I decided to pursue writing as an actual job. I designed a website and applied for writing jobs. I started getting more and more clients. It occurred to me that with some hard work I might be able to make a living doing what I love. So there I was, three months after the sky fell, thinking about how incredibly blessed I was. And this would never have happened had I not lost something in the first place.

(2022·浙江·模拟预测)Four species of bacteria – three of them previously unknown to science – have been discovered on board the International Space Station (ISS), starting questions about how they got there, and how they have managed to survive.
Their discovery may also improve future efforts to cultivate crops during long spaceflight missions, since related species are known to promote the growth of plants and help them fight off pathogens(病原菌).
Previous studies had suggested that certain bacteria could survive the hard conditions of space, which survived on the space station’s surface for three years. They were deliberately placed there to test the theory that life exists throughout the universe and may be transported between planets by space dust, asteroids(小行星),or even polluted spacecraft.
The new bacteria were similarly identified from swabs(棉签)of various locations inside the ISS. One was discovered on a dining table; another on an overhead board in a research area used to study low gravity; the third in the Cupola observatory. The fourth species, which was already known of, was found on an old air-purifying filter(净化过滤器), which had been returned to Earth. All of them are rod-shaped bacteria belonging to the family – usually found in soil and fresh water, where they help to promote plant growth and defend against harmful bacteria.
They’re most likely to have been transferred to the ISS from Earth – rather than coming from outer space – and have either survived since the the beginning of the station, or were introduced when new astronauts or supplies arrived.
It is important to understand the types of microbes(微生物)that can accumulate, survive, and even grow well in this unique environment, because they may affect the health of crew, the spacecraft’s structure, or dirty the planets and astronomical bodies they visit.
19.Why was the discovery of the bacteria important?
A.They are all well known species. B.They are all previously unknown.
C.They are good for people’s health. D.They are helpful with space planting.
20.What have scientists found about the bacteria?
A.They can not live in hard conditions. B.They can be transported by space dust.
C.Some kinds have a very strong life. D.Some kinds exist throughout the universe.
21.What can you infer from the last two paragraphs about the species?
A.They may strengthen the spacecraft. B.They are unlikely to come from Mars.
C.They will not put other planets to danger. D.They can hardly grow in the spacecraft.

(2021·河北保定·高三期中)In my first year of teaching in Houston, I was asked to act as a batman at a birthday party.
One night, the headmaster handed me a costume and said, "Tomorrow you're going to be batman." I knew a batman with a moustache at the party was a huge red flag. I knew it was specially bad for my image, but I didn't want to change my physical appearance because that would mean I was funnier, so I chose not to shave.
The party was at a huge public park, and I had to park my car far enough away so that the children couldn't see me. Then I walked to it secretly, but unluckily, the children saw me coming from about 300 meters away.
I started to regret not to shave. When I got close enough for them to see my face clearly the entire party broke into laughter. I wanted to turn around and run back in embarrassment, but then the laughter changed into cheering and applause. He just shaves it for his movies."Naturally, the children were doubtful, but my moustache became the detail that confirmed what the parents had said. Those children of the perfect age still believed in wonders and superheroes and they were pleased to find something kept hidden from others.

(2020·江西·九江一中模拟预测)When you hear the word “birthmark”, you probably think of one of those black or brown spots that you have on your body. For me, it’s different — I have them on my lips and inside my mouth. I’m used to being asked, “What are those black marks on your lips?” When I tell people they’re birthmarks, they usually say, “That’s strange.” I used to consider them ugly. However, my mom calls them beauty marks.
In pictures, I used to hide my birthmarks by pursing(噘起) my lips so I wouldn’t have to deal with people’s questions. As I was growing up, people wore me out with them. Some people would ask me the same questions even before knowing my name. In society I feel like we judge people by their looks before their personality.
My birthmarks are caused by a genetic(基因的) condition from my mom’s side of the family. My mom’s mom has birthmarks on her lips, and my mom’s uncle and my uncle have some on their bodies. Every year I plan to have a procedure to remove them. But when imagining the process, I always get nervous and give up.
My cousin faces a similar challenge. She has a huge birthmark that takes up her whole arm. She’s never tried to hide it or change her appearance. Once, her grandmother told her that the birthmark looked extremely prominent and suggested that she should wear long sleeves more often. If my cousin had actually taken that suggestion, she wouldn’t be such a person as she is.
Inspired by my cousin, I am finally accepting who I am and now I don’t hesitate when someone asks me about them either. I say, “They’re beauty marks” and smile without pursing my lips.
30.How did the author feel when asked about the birthmarks?
A.She felt excited to show her difference.
B.She felt annoyed to give others an answer.
C.She was scared to be made fun of by people.
D.She was bored to be faced with the question.
31.Who has the similar birthmarks like the author?
A.Her mother. B.Her grandmother.
C.Her cousin. D.Her uncle.
32.What can be inferred about the author’s cousin?
A.She dislikes talking about her birthmark.
B.She never judges others by their looks.
C.She is more confident than the author.
D.She has taken her grandma’s suggestion.
33.What does the underlined word “prominent” in paragraph 4 mean?
A.Brilliant. B.Apparent.
C.Harmful. D.Impressive.

Lee was born Stanley Martin Lieber in New York in 1992. As a son of working-class Jewish immigrants from Romania, times were hard and he lived with his family in a shabby single-bedroom apartment. After graduating from high school at 16, Lieber landed a job as an assistant at Timely Comics. By the early 1940s, he was a temporary editor for the company. (2022·四川·绵阳中学模拟预测)For years, life went something like this: We’d grow up in one place, head off to college, and then find a city to get a job and live there for a few years. The final goal was to find somewhere to settle down, buy a house, start a family, and begin the whole cycle all over again. But now some people are increasingly choosing to move from city to city throughout their entire lives, sometimes as frequently as every month.
Just ask Alex Chatzieleftheriou, who has had a front-row seat watching this evolution unfold. Six years ago, he launched a startup called Blueground that rents out beautifully designed, fully furnished apartments for a month at a time, at rates that are cheaper than hotels. And it aims to make each one feel unique and comfortable, rather than standardized, like what you might find in a traditional hotel.
Today, the company has 3,000 properties(房地产) in six U.S. cities, along with Dubai, Istanbul, London, Paris, and Chatzieleftheriou’s native Athens, and a staff of 400. With the help of the Series B round of funding, the company landed $ 50 million, plus its previous total of $ 28 million, to continue its rapid expansion. It hopes to have 50,000 properties in 50 cities over the next three years.
Chatzieleftheriou first came up with the idea for Blueground while he was working as a management consultant for McKinsey. “The accommodation of choice for consultants is the hotel,” he says. “I had to spend five years in hotel rooms, living in 12 different cities. I loved seeing the world, but I didn’t love feeling like I didn’t have a home.” And what’s more, hotels aren’t a particularly cost-effective solution for companies either. In Chatzieleftheriou’s case, McKinsey sometimes paid $ 10,000 or more for him to stay in a major city for a month.
41.What does the author intend to tell in the first paragraph?
A.A new lifestyle is appearing.
B.Life is just like a circle for people.
C.Most people are used to an easy life.
D.People live in different places in life.
42.What is the goal of Blueground?
A.To compete with hotels.
B.To create standardized hotels.
C.To make renters feel at home.
D.To rent out long-term apartments.
43.What do we know about Blueground?
A.It got a total investment of $ 78 million.
B.Its business is anything but satisfying.
C.It expanded to every corner of the world.
D.It has 50,000 properties in 50 cities.
44.What does the last paragraph focus on?
A.High costs of hotels.
B.Chatzieleftheriou’s former work.
C.Strengths of Blueground.
D.The inspiration for Blueground.

(2021·云南·昆明一中模拟预测)O'Plerou Grebet is a 22-year-old graphic design student in Côte d'Ivoire, Africa. Everywhere he looks, he sees signs of Western influence — from the glass skyscrapers and malls lining the streets in his home city to the way his fellows speak and dress. “We are living like we’re Western people,” he says. That even applies to the keyboard culture — when his friends text using the messaging apps, they especially love to use the “tears of joy” face emoji (表情符号). So he used his design skills to create digital stickers that show what he thinks is missing: symbols of history, life and culture in Côte d'Ivoire and neighboring countries.
In 2018, he released a free pack of over 360 stickers in a mobile app called "Zouzoukwa”, which means "image" in the local Bété language. Available on Android and iOS, it now has over 120,000 downloads. It's more impressive than other emoji apps, with the feature of connecting to the realities of Africans using it. “ It would make their jokes even livelier,” says Grebet. The stickers include traditional masks, African instruments like the djembe drum and people dressed in a variety of prints and clothing that can reflect local tradition.
Some of his favorite designs are a series of facial expressions commonly used in his area, but not available as standardized emojis. There’s a woman with lips pursed, giving some serious side-eye—a sign you can use when your friend keeps you waiting long for no reason. It's common in Côte d'Ivoire and also translates across cultures, Grebet says.

(2021·四川·成都外国语学校模拟预测)Happiness is not a warm phone, according to a new study exploring the link between young life satisfaction and screen time. The study was led by professor of psychology Jean M. Twenge at San Diego State University (SDSU).
To research this link, Twenge, along with colleagues Gabrielle Martin at SDSU and W. Keith Campbell at the University of Georgia, dealt with data from the Monitoring the Future (MtF) study, a nationally representative survey of more than a million U. S. 8th-, 10th-, and 12th-graders. The survey asked students questions about how often they spent time on their Phones, tablets and computers, as well as questions about their face-to-face social interactions and their overall happiness.
On average found that teens who spent more time in front of screen devices — playing computer games, using social media, texting and video chatting — were less happy than those who invested more time in non-screen activities like sports, reading newspapers and magazines, and face-to-face social interactions.
"The key to digital media use and happiness is limited use," Twenge said. "Aim to spend no more than two hours a day on digital media, and try to increase the amount of time you spend seeing friends face-to-face and exercising — two activities reliably linked to greater happiness."
Looking at historical trends from the same age groups since the 1990s, it's easy to find that the increase of screen devices over time happened at the same time as a general drop-off in reported happiness in U. S. teens. Specifically, young peopled life satisfaction and happiness declined sharply after 2012. That's the year when the percentage of Americans who owned a smartphone rose above 50 percent. By far the largest change in teens' lives between 2012 and 2016 was the increase in the amount of time they spent on digital media, and the following decline in in-person social activities and sleep.
49.Which method did Twenge's team use for the study?
A.Calculating students' happiness.
B.Asking students certain questions.
C.Analyzing data from a survey.
D.Doing experiments on screen time.
50.How does the author develop the finding of the study in paragraph 3?
A.By making a comparison.
B.By giving an example.

D.By introducing a concept.
51.What is the purpose of the last paragraph?
A.To draw a conclusion from the study.

(2021·陕西·西安市铁一中学模拟预测)In the first term of college, Professor Kelly lectured us in his Acting 1 class about the importance of taking the business of acting seriously. As I prepare to take on my senior year, I think back on the first term and I consider my seriousness and my love for the art of theatre. I'm pleased to say that, for the most part, my determination remains as strong as ever.
Even after I've learned about the difficulties and the heartbreak that go with working as an actor, I know that it is still the right path for me. Something Professor Kelly said in that first acting class has stuck with me through these last three years. He said, " Every actor chooses to act for their own reasons — personally I do it because I have to. I have to perform. It's who l am." For as long as I've been performing, I've wondered how to best describe why I do what I do. Professor Kelly answered that question for me that day.
When I was little and first imagined what it would be like to be a real actor, I would imagine being known about by many people someday. However, I never actually wanted that. I act because no matter what is going on in my life,no matter how stressed I am with what's happening outside of or during practices, when I'm on stage, I'm home and I'm me.
Many parents will feel worried about their children's choosing to be an actor. Some will be surprised. My parents are just exceptions. They knew from the start that nothing was going to keep me from doing what I love.
53.What did Professor Kelly's words make the author realize?
A.She did acting out of love. B.She really had a gift for acting.
C.She would face many challenges. D.She must work hard to learn acting.
54.What does the underlined word " that" in paragraph 3 refer to?
A.Imagining being an actor. B.Being on stage.
C.Becoming famous one day. D.Being devoted to theatre.
55.How do the author's parents feel about her choice?
A.Content. B.Sympathetic. C.Concerned. D.Disappointed.
56.What is the author mainly talking about in the text?
A.Why she chose acting. B.Who inspired her to act.
C.How acting changed her life. D.What she learned about acting.

(2021·广西南宁·模拟预测)Being an Olympian (奥运会选手) demands focus, determination, and a competitive spirit. Plus, representing your country is a lot of pressure. However, two athletes recently showed the world another quality that is definitely worth championing.
Qatar's Mutaz Essa Barshim and Italy's Gianmarco Tamberi were competing in the high jump on Sunday when they reached a stalemate (僵局). Both men had managed to jump over a surprising 2.37 meters with no faults along the way. However, after three attempts neither managed the next level of 2.39 meters.
An Olympic official suggested a jump-off between the two friends and rivals (竞争对手) to determine who would get the gold medal. But Barshim had another plan to reward their efforts.
“Can we have two golds?” he asked the official.
The official agreed and the two men jumped for joy. This was the first time a gold medal had been shared since 1912. “He is one of my best friends, not only on the track, but outside the track. We work together. This is a dream come true.” shared Barshim.
The decision to share the medal was particularly meaningful to Tamberi. The Italian had suffered an ankle injury that prevented him from competing in the Rio Olympics in 2016, and it nearly put an end to his career altogether. So this year he brought along his cast to this year's Olympics with “Road to Tokyo 2021” to inspire him along the way.
For Barshim, the gold has topped off his already impressive medal collection, having received a bronze and a silver medal in 2012 and 2016 respectively.
Despite all the glory of receiving a gold medal for their countries, their achievement means so much more. These two individuals, trying to do their very best for their countries, have provided a wonderful example to all those competing in sports. They've summed up exactly what it means to take part in a global event with a generous and compassionate (有同情心的) spirit.
57.What happened to Barshim and Tamberi in the competition?
A.They ended in a tie. B.They quit the competition.
C.They set a new record. D.They ran out of strength.
58.What does the underlined word “jump-off” in Paragraph 3 refer to?
A.Debate. B.Vote.
C.Celebration. D.Extra round.
59.Why was the gold medal particularly meaningful to Tamberi?
A.It could bring him a lot of money. B.It may make up for his regret in 2016.
C.It was a glory for his country. D.It could complete his medal collection.
60.What does the author mainly want to convey in the text?
A.The importance of sharing.
B.The glory of winning gold medals.
C.The valuable and special team spirit.
D.The considerate and sharing Olympic spirit.

(2021·广西南宁·模拟预测)Unlike children and apes (猿), dogs generally know when people are being deceitful (骗人的), a new study suggests. According to the researchers at the University of Vienna, the dogs could follow their own intuition (直觉) when given misleading instructions by humans about where the food was.
The 260 dogs for the study were presented with two buckets (桶), one of which contained dog food that the dogs could access by knocking off a paper lid with their nose or paw. The dogs were at first trained to trust a person they had never met, called the “communicator”, to help them find the food from the correct bucket. The communicator would point to the food-filled bucket, look at the dog and then say “Look, this is good, this is very good!” to encourage the dog towards the food.
After establishing this trust between the communicator and the dogs, the researchers added the all-important part of deception into the mix. The dogs watched another stranger, known as “the hider”, move the dog food from one bucket (bucket A) to another (bucket B). This was done both with and without the communicator in the room—so the communicator was either witness to the switch or they weren't. In both of these conditions, the communicator would recommend bucket A to the dog, which was now empty.
Across the two conditions, more dogs followed their own visual experience of where the food had been hidden rather than the communicator's suggestion. About two-thirds of dogs ignored the communicator who had witnessed the food switch and went on to recommend empty bucket A.
According to Huber, dogs did not rely on the communicator anymore, which contrasts with previous studies involving apes and children under five years. In these previous studies, if a communicator had witnessed a switch but recommended an empty bowl of food, young children and apes would follow their misguiding advice.
“Dogs do not follow human wrong pointing gestures blindly, although sometimes they find them difficult to ignore,” they conclude. “Instead, they can adjust their behaviour flexibly depending on the trustworthiness of the people giving information and can recognize between helpful and unhelpful experimenters.”
61.Why does the author mention “children and apes” in the first paragraph?
A.To explain a rule. B.To make a prediction.
C.To introduce a discovery. D.To clarify a concept.
62.What did the communicator do in the study?
A.Misled the dogs. B.Watched the dogs' behavior.
C.Raised the dogs. D.Emptied the food-filled bucket.
63.How did most of the dogs find the food?
A.By following what they had seen. B.By using their sense of smell.
C.By taking the misleading advice. D.By ignoring the researchers' order.
64.Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
A.Dogs—The Best Food Seeker
B.Dogs Are Smarter Than You
C.Dogs—Humans' Best Companions
D.Dogs Know When You Are Telling Lies

(2021·辽宁·沈阳市第一二〇中学三模)Cala didn’t like us. Any of us. We didn’t do anything to offend her and she didn’t know us but that didn’t matter; she still didn’t like us.
As new teachers in the Emirati school, we Westerners greeted her every day. She ignored us. She came into our rooms and bypassed us as she shook hands with all the non-Westerners. Whenever we saw her, she avoided eye contact with us. Eventually, we stopped trying to befriend her.
I wouldn’t say her nationality but her friends had been fired from the school. We had been employed in their places and that was enough for her to have nothing to do with us.
Well after 16 months in the school we had a secret friend gifting. To my surprise, I drew her name from the glass jar and that meant she was my secret friend. My role was to buy her a gift and say something about her when we publicly acknowledged who our secret friend was.
I decided to gift her a coloured bangle(手镯). I added a postcard and wrote “Love and Blessings, Rose Marie.

(2021·山东省实验中学模拟预测)Zaki was small for his twelve years, and he was angry being treated as a child. Farid, his older brother, had been looked upon as a man long before he was Zaki’s age. Every day Farid and the other young Bahraini men went out in their wooden boats to dive for oysters (牡蛎). Many times Zaki begged to go along, but Farid always refused to let him.
So every day Zaki would go to the shallow water to practice. His grandfather, a former diver, would watch him and advise him. All morning, Zaki would practice diving beneath the waves. Every afternoon, again and again he would go underwater and hold his breath. With each day’s practice, his diving improved and he could hold his breath a little while longer. Soon Zaki felt as much at home in the water as he did out of it.
Zaki rose early one day. He wanted to compete with his brother. They dived beneath the waves. Zaki opened his eyes and found himself looking into his brother’s face. Farid was smiling with confidence. Slowly, the smile was disappearing from Farid’s face. As more seconds passed, a worried look appeared on Farid’s face. Farid was realizing that Zaki could possibly beat him. Looking into Farid’s eyes, Zaki suddenly understood what losing could mean to his brother. Never would the villagers allow him to live it down. He would be laughed at by losing to a little child. Almost without thinking, Zaki kicked his feet and rose to the surface of the water a second before Farid’s head appeared beside him.
The men around them cheered and patted Farid on the back. Farid, however, put his arm around Zaki’s shoulders. “Today,” Farid announced, “we shall have a new diver among us.” Then quietly, for Zaki’s ears alone, he said “Thank you, my brother.” And Zaki knew that they both had learned that it takes more than strength to make a man.

(2021·河南·许昌高中一模)TOKYO, Japan—Maki Kaji, 69, the creator of the popular numbers puzzle Sudoku whose life's work was spreading the joy of puzzles, has died of cancer.
Known as the “Godfather of Sudoku,” Kaji created the puzzle to be easy for children and others who didn't want to think too hard. Its name is made up of the Japanese characters for “number” and “single,” and players place the numbers 1 through 9 in rows, columns and blocks without repeating them.
Ridiculously, it wasn't until 2004 that Sudoku became a global hit, after a fan from New Zealand got it published in the British newspaper The Times. Two years later, Japan rediscovered its own puzzle as a “reimport.”
Kaji traveled to more than 30 countries spreading his enjoyment of puzzles. Sudoku championships have drawn some 200 million people in 100 countries over the years. Sudoku was also never trademarked (注册) except within Japan, driving its overseas craze.
Born in the main northern island of Hokkaido, Kaji started Japan's first puzzle magazine after dropping out of Keio University in Tokyo. He founded Nikoli in 1983, and came up with the name Sudoku about the same time. In recent years, Sudoku, believed to be the world's most popular pencil puzzle, has come out in digital versions.
“Our mission (使命) is to seek Kaji's wishes and possibilities,” said Yoshinao Anpuku, who succeeded Kaji as Nikoli's chief executive (执行官). Major Japanese newspaper Mainichi credited Kaji for starting the puzzle sections at bookstores, as well as introducing the word “Sudoku” into the Oxford English dictionary.

A. Considerate体贴的,体谅的;B. Ambitious野心勃勃的;C. Confident自信的;D. Adventurous喜欢冒险的。故选A。
71.推理判断题。由最后一段中的Then quietly, for Zaki’s ears alone, he said “Thank you, my brother.”可知,Farid理解弟弟有意让他赢得比赛,对弟弟很是感激,还宣布他们今天又有了一名潜水员。由最后一段中的“Zaki knew that they both had learned that it takes more than strength to make a man.”
