Children mving frm primary t secndary schl are ill-equipped t deal with the bming f scial media, as it is playing an increasingly imprtant rle in their lives, and is expsing them t significant emtinal risks, accrding t a recent reprt by the Office f the Children’s Cmmissiner fr England.
The reprt shws that many children in year 7 – the first year f secndary schl, ____21____ almst everyne in the class will have a phne and be active n scial media – feel under pressure t be cnstantly cnnected.

Sme children are almst addicted t “likes”, the reprt says. Aarn, an 11-year-ld in year 7, tld researchers, “If I gt 150 likes, I’d be like, that’s pretty cl, it means they like yu.” Sme children described feeling ____27____ (cnfident) than thse they fllw n scial media. Why liars lie: What science tells us abut deceptin
We all d it smetimes, even thugh we knw it’s wrng. But here’s the prblem with lying: research shws that the mre yu lie, the easier it gets, and the mre likely yu are t d it again. “The dangerus thing abut lying is that peple dn’t understand hw the act changes us,” said Dan Ariely, a behaviral psychlgist at Duke.
Psychlgists have dcumented children lying as early as age 2. Sme experts even cnsider lying a ____41____ milestne, like crawling and walking, because it requires cmplex planning, attentin and the ability t see a situatin frm smene else’s ____42____ t effectively cntrl them. But fr mst peple, lying gets ____43____ as we develp a sense f mrality and the ability t self-regulate.
A 2010 study n the frequency f lying in America fund that in a given 24-hur perid, mst adults reprted nt telling any lies. Almst half the lies recrded in the study culd be ____44____ just 5 percent f participants. And mst peple ____45____ lying when they culd, turning t deceptin nly when the truth was trublesme.
Harvard cgnitive neurscientist Jshua Greene said, ____46____ , fr mst f us, lying takes wrk. In studies, he presented study subjects with a chance t deceive fr mnetary gain while examining their brains in a functinal MRI(核磁共振) machine, which ____47____ bld flw t active parts f the brain.
Sme peple tld the truth instinctively. But thers ____48____ pted t lie, and they shwed ____49____ activity in their frntal parietal (额顶叶) cntrl netwrk, which is invlved in difficult r cmplex thinking. This suggests that they were deciding between truth and ____50____ – and ultimately pting fr the latter.
Fr a fllw-up analysis, he fund that peple whse neural reward centers were mre active when they wn mney were als mre likely t be amng the grup f liars – suggesting that lying may have t d with the ____51____ t resist temptatin.
Scientists dn’t really knw what prevents all f us frm lying all the time. Sme believe truth-telling is a scial nrm we internalize, r a result f cnflict in ur brains between the things we want and the ___52____ image f urselves we strive t maintain. But the curius thing abut this ____53____ mechanism is that it cmes frm within.
Hwever, external cnditins als matter ____54____ when and hw ften we lie. We are mre likely t lie, research shws, when we are able t justify it, when we are ____55____ and exhausted, r when we see thers being dishnest. And we are less likely t lie when we have mral reminders r when we think thers are watching.

Dandelins

And there were s many f them! We spent hurs picking the flwers and then ppping the blssms ff with a snap f ur fingers. But the supply f dandelins (蒲公英) never ran ut. My father r brthers wuld chp ff all the heads with the lawnmwer (割草机) at least nce a week, but that didn't stp these hardy wnders.
And fr thse flwers that escaped the hnr f being hand-delivered t my mther r the sharp blades f the lawnmwer, there was anther level f existence. The sft rundness f a dandelin gne t seed caused endless laughter f delight as we uncnsciusly spread this flwer acrss the yard.
As I wrked in my garden last week, pulling unwanted weeds ut f the space that wuld becme a haven fr tmates, crn, peas and sunflwers, I again marveled at the flwer that sme call a weed.
And I thught, if nly I had the staying pwer f a dandelin. If nly I culd stretch my rts s deep and straight that smething tugging n my stem culdn’t separate me cmpletely frm the surce that feeds me life. If nly I culd cme back t face the wrld with a bright, sunshiny face after smene has run me ver with a lawnmwer r wrse, purpsely attacked me in an attempt t destry me. If nly I culd spread lve and encuragement as freely and fully as this flwer spreads seeds f itself.
The lawns at my parents' hme are nw beautiful green blankets. The nly patches f clr cme frm well-placed, well-cntrlled flwerbeds. Chemicals have managed t kill what human interference culdn’t. I hpe yu and I can be different. I hpe that we can stretch ur rts deep enugh that the strngest pisn can't reach ur suls. I hpe that we can vercme the pisns f anger, fear, hate, criticism and cmpetitiveness.

The tw-hur shw n March 25, 2019 put n by Tim Ck may be remembered as a milestne fr the cmpany – and the entertainment industry. Mr. Ck did nt annunce his cmpany’s latest device. Instead, he unveiled a set f prducts and services, including vide streaming (在线播放), news games and even a credit card.
Apple’s 900 millin iPhnes wrldwide grant it access t a massive ptential audience. Analysts speculate that Apple will eventually ffer them smething similar t Amazn Prime, where custmers pay a fixed mnthly fee fr sme cmbinatin f news, games, clud strage, music and vide, and which culd pssibly cnnect with the cmpany’s iPhne subscriptins (订阅).
Apple TV+, which gt priritized by Mr. Ck, will ffer riginal prgramming in mre than 100 cuntries. The mney Apple plans t spend n riginal shws – perhaps $1 billin t $2 billin thus far – is dwarfed by that f Netflix, which will spend as much as $15 billin this year n riginal and licensed cntent, r Disney, whse wn vide-streaming is expected shrtly. But Apple’s high-prfile shws are fr nw meant chiefly t draw custmers t its universe f apps and services. That includes subscriptin services fr games, a lng list f big American magazines and a few newspapers. Yu can pay fr it all using yur new Apple Card, develped with bankers at Gldman Sachs (高盛,著名投资银行). The credit card puts Apple in direct cmpetitin with banks: it has n fees and will give users 2% cash back n purchases made via Apple Pay, the cmpany’s payments system – r 3% n purchases f Apple kit and service.
Althugh Apple cntinues t earn mst f its mney frm devices, its business in services is grwing quickly, accunting fr nearly $40 billin f revenues f $266 billin in 2018. The new subscriptin ffering, which is easier t click and buy than their predecessrs (先前版本), shuld accelerate that trend. Its new partners hpe t be alng fr the ride. Analysts at Gldman Sachs estimated that Apple may turn 10% f the 85 millin mnthly users f its free News app int paying subscribers, wining a cut f newspaper and TV subscriptins sld thrugh its services.
Sme cntent prviders are cautius. The New Yrk Times and The Washingtn Pst have rejected Apple’s advances n behalf f its news service. Netflix and Disney will nt take part in Apple TV+, which they view as mre a threat than an pprtunity.
63. The underlined wrd dwarfed in paragraph 3 mst prbably means ________.
64. We can infer frm the article that ________.
A. Apple invested heavily in its entertainment services alng with its latest devices
B. Apple Card may be favured because it ffers discunts n purchases f Apple prducts
C. The ppularity f Apple devices may bring frth huge prfit ptentials in its new service
D. Apple’s new mve is seen as an pprtunity as well as a threat by its cmpetitrs
65. What is mst likely t be further discussed if the article cntinues?

B. Wh might gain huge benefits frm Apple’s new service.
C. Hw Gldman Sachs wn the supprt frm Mr. Tim Ck.
D. Why sme cmpanies are alert t Apple’s strategy changes.
66. What is the best title fr this article?

C. The Entertainment Industry Calls fr Cperatin
D. A New Bttleneck fr Tech Giant Apple

Hw t Make a Gd Cup f Tea
In his essay, A Nice Cup f Tea, Gerge Orwell laid ut 11 basic principles t make a gd cup f tea, frm warming the pt befrehand t stirring the leaves befre puring. He insisted that “the water shuld be actually biling at the mment f impact, which means that ne shuld keep it n the flame while ne purs”.
____67____ “Sme peple add that ne shuld nly use water that has been freshly brught t the bil, but I have never nticed that it makes any difference,” he went n t state.
Hwever, n that pint at least, it seems he was wrng. William Grman, ne f Britain’s leading tea experts, has nw put frward that the water used fr making a cup f tea shuld never be biled mre than nce. “Usually when peple’s tea ges cld they rebil the kettle and make anther cup. ____68____ Yu need freshly drawn water fr a gd cup because rebiling it takes all the xygen and nitrgen ut f it, ruining its layered flavr.”
Besides, Mr. Grman advcates anther practice f making tea, ne that Orwell wuld surely have prtested. Mr. Grman said, “____69____ When yu micrwave tea, all yu’re ding is just mving the mlecules arund and getting it back up t a decent temperature. It is nt impacting the flavr at all.”
____70____ In sme cuntries teapts are fitted with little dangling baskets under the sput, t catch the stray leaves, which are suppsed t be harmful. Actually ne can swallw tea-leaves in cnsiderable quantities withut ill effect, and if the tea is nt lse in the pt, it never infuses prperly. They agree by ding this, yu actually risk lsing a gd cup f tea.

Ppulatin Change f Eurpean Birds
The breeding bird ppulatins in Eurpe have seen a great shift ver the past three decades, driven by bth climate crisis and human interferences, accrding t ne f the wrld’s largest citizen science prjects n bidiversity.
Overall, 35% f birds increased their breeding range. Dr. Iván Ramírez, senir head f cnservatin at BirdLife Eurpe and central Asia, said: “Thse birds that have been legally prtected have been ding better than thse which are nt prtected. This is a really imprtant message within the Eurpean Unin. We have ne f the ldest plicies – the Birds Directive – and we can prve that it wrks.”
In additin, as the climate warms, frests are stretching int nrthern and agricultural regins. In parts f nrthern Eurpe, there has als been tree planting (mainly fr wd and paper) and land abandnment (specifically in Mediterranean areas), which benefited many wdland species such as wdpeckers and warblers but caused damage t a number f ther species as well. The research shws a ttal f 25% f birds nw ccupy a smaller area.
Generally, farmland birds are bigger lsers, suffering verall declines in ppulatin and reduced distributin because agricultural intensificatin means there is less fd, such as insects and remainder frm harvesting. The State f Nature in the EU 2013-2018 assessment shwed 80% f key habitats were in pr r bad cnditin, and intensive farming is a majr driver f decline. The UK’s farmland birds have declined by 55% since 1970.
“Predictably, there are winners and lsers. We can see hw sme species have expanded acrss the cntinent rapidly and have begun t clnize UK wetlands. In cntrast, we can see ranges shrinking as species f nrthern Eurpe feel the impact f climate change, and species such as the dtterel are declining in numbers and range in nrthern Britain,” he said.
