Have you ever heard of FOGO? It is short for “fear of going out.” This buzzword(流行语) is often used to describe social anxiety(焦虑), a problem that some young people are facing.
Sometimes, FOGO can cause us trouble. Recently something happened to a friend of mine. Last Friday, my friend Amy took the subway to go home. The subway was very crowded. When she tried to exit at her stop, my friend found that the door was blocked by other passengers. She was too shy to say “Excuse me.” Instead, she kept waiting until the people in front of her had all gotten off. It ended up taking her two more hours than it usually does to get home. It usually takes her about 40 minutes.
Some people, like my friend, believe that silence is golden. Many times they believe that, by saying nothing, they can avoid making mistakes and therefore they won’t lose face or face any criticism(指责). However, some people around them may see it as a sign of arrogance(傲慢). Anyway, we must say “no” to FOGO.
It isn’t easy to say “no” to FOGO though. We need practice. First, it can make a big difference to tell yourself that you can do it. Also, always pay more attention to what you are doing than what others might say about you. Meanwhile, you need to be brave enough to ask others for help when you do need help.
Throughout our journey in life, we will meet many different people. Don’t be afraid to express yourself. Having the courage to get socialized with people helps you make friends. Your life will be different if you do not have FOGO.
31. What is FOGO often used to describe?
A. A journey. B. A problem. C. A person.
32. How long did it take Amy to get home last Friday?
A. About 40 minutes. B. About 120 minutes. C. About 160 minutes.
33. What may happen to people who believe silence is golden?
A. They may talk a lot. B. They may lose faces. C. They may keep quiet.
34. Which is good for practicing saying “no” to FOGO?
A. Paying much attention to what others might say.
B. Paying more attention to what you are doing.
C. Telling yourself that you can’t do it.
35. What can be the best title of the text?
A. The Buzzword FOGO B. Say No to FOGO C. FOGO Story

Today, we consider zero as a common number. Few of us know zero has an unusual history. Zero is, in fact, very different from other numbers.
At first, there were only the numbers one to nine. Zero first appeared in India about 2,000 years ago. Many other ancient cultures had been marking nothingness. However, the ancient Indians were the first to consider nothingness a number.
Little by little, global communication became more frequent(频繁). Finally, zero was brought out of India. It was accepted as an Arabic numeral. Some people, therefore, believed zero would cause much trouble. Zero was also considered an unlucky number. That’s because it’s too negative(负面的) and close to the idea of having debts(债务). France and Italy even banned(禁止) the use of zero citywide.
It was not until 15th century that zero and the other Arabic numerals were fully accepted. Business people played an important role. Just thinking about doing calculation(计算) using Roman numerals. You can hardly do any trade, can you?

Familiar songs work well, too. You may need to experiment to make your own playlists. If you are not sure how many beats a song has in a minute, you may find it out on www.songbpm.com. And remember to get the volume(音量) right. Make sure the final piece is the one that slowly fades out(减弱), 69. if you don’t want to be woken up by the sudden silence.
