Volunteering means spending some of your free time, your energy or your talent, to help others. Dec 5 is International Volunteer Day. The day calls for more and more young people around the world to volunteer to help those in need.
In China, young people are volunteering to help others in many different ways.
The traditional way is to help people in need. Volunteers visit homes of older people or care for homeless people. In Shenzhen, China, some school students volunteer to teach children in the Children’s Home. Their classes include painting and learning numbers. “Spending some time with these children makes me feel happy and helps me forget worries of school work.” Chen Shiying, an18-year-old volunteer from Shenzhen Middle School, told China Youth Daily.
Compared to traditional volunteering, skill-based volunteering requires (要求) volunteers to have certain knowledge or receive special training.
