第一节 (共 15 小题;每小题 2.5 分,满分 37.5 分)
A
During my study in Czech, one of the things that I have learned is that Czech people are really good at celebrating and holding parties. Since I graduated this year, the greatest event for us was definitely the senior prom (毕业年级舞会).Girls started arranging their clothes a year beforehand. Graduating students also needed to give their “Midnight Surprise” (a group performance). One interesting thing was that students from every class were holding a huge colorful bag and people had to throw money into it. I didn’t get any sleep that night because we all went to an after-party with our teachers and friends.
At the end of April,we held the traditional activity called “The Last Ringing”,which lasted for two days. Every class had a theme and seniors wore different costumes. We prepared tasty desserts to sell. We broke into one classroom after another asking students to give us money, which might seem insane but it is part of the tradition.
By the end of May,we had already finished all of the final exams and we started preparing for the graduation ceremony. It was held in the conference hall in our school. We got our graduation certificate from our teacher, and shook hands with the headmaster. When I received my certificate,I was close to tears—I didn’t want to say goodbye to the people or to the school.
That wasn’t the last celebration though. After four days, our class invited all of our teachers to come to a farewell dinner at an Italian restaurant. We used all of the money we collected from the prom and “The Last Ringing” to order pizzas and champagne. We all talked and ate together.
A year ago,we were all complaining and hoping that high school would end. But I felt sad when the time finally came. We have officially left our school. I keep telling myself that everything has an ending. This journey was amazing. Although it has come to an end,I will always keep the memories.
21.Why did students hold a huge colorful bag on the prom?
A. To raise money for the last celebration.
B. To store money from tickets for the prom.
C. To collect money to cover after-party fees.
D. To get money to prepare “The Last Ringing”.
22.What does the underlined word “insane” in Paragraph 2 mean?
A. Violent. B. Crazy.
C. Dangerous. D. Impossible.
23.What’s the author’s purpose of writing the text?
A. To show the precious friendship in high school.
B. To express the sadness of graduating from high school.
C. To introduce Czech high school graduation celebrations.
D. To share wonderful memories of the senior year in high school.

Last week my youngest son and I visited my father at his new home in Tucson, Arizona. He moved there a few years ago, and I was eager to see his new place and meet his friends.
My earliest memories of my father are a tall, handsome, successful man devoted to his work and his family, but uncomfortable with his children. As a child I loved him. He seemed unhappy with me unless I got straight A’s and unhappy with my boyfriends if their fathers were not as “successful” as he was. Whenever I went out with him on weekends, I used to struggle to think up things to say, feeling on guard.
On the first day of my visit, we went out with one of my father’s friends for lunch at an outdoor café. We walked along that afternoon, did some shopping, ate on the street table, and laughed over my son’s funny facial expressions. Gone was my father’s critical (挑剔的) air and strict rules. Who was this person I knew as my father, who seemed so friendly and interesting to be around? What had held him back before?
The next day dad pulled out his childhood pictures and told me quite a few stories about his own childhood. Although our times together became easier over the years, I never felt closer to him at that moment. After so many years, I’m at last seeing another side of my father. And in so doing, I’m delighted with my new friend. My dad, in his new home in Arizona, is back to me from where he was.
24. Why did the author feel bitter about her father as a young adult?
A. He was silent most of the time. B. He was too proud of himself.
C. He did not love his children. D. He expected too much of her.
25. When the author went out with her father on weekend, she would feel
A. nervous B. sorry C. tired D. safe
26. What does the author think of her father after her visit to Tucson?
A. More critical. B. More talkative
C. Gentle and friendly. D. Strict and hard-working.
27. The underlined words “my new friend” in the last paragraph refer to
A. the author’s son B. the author’s father
C. the friend of the author’s father D. the café owner
C
California has been facing a drought for many years now, with certain areas even having to pump freshwater hundreds of miles to their distribution system. The problem is growing as the population of the state continues to expand. 46.New research has found deep water reserves under the state which could help solve their drought crisis. Previous drilling of wells could only reach depths of 1,000 feet, 47.but due to new pumping practices, water deeper than this can now be extracted (抽取). The team at Stanford investigated the aquifers(地下蓄水层)below this depth and found that reserves may be triple what was previously thought.
It is profitable to drill to depths more than 1,000 feet for oil and gas extraction, but only recently in California has it become profitable to pump water from this depth. The aquifers range from 1,000 to 3,000 feet below the ground, which means that pumping will be expensive and there are other concerns. 48.The biggest concern of pumping out water from this deep in the gradual settling down of the land surface. As the water is pumped out, the vacant space left is compacted by the weight of the earth above.
Even though pumping from these depths is expensive, it is still cheaper than desalinating(脱盐)the ocean water in the largely coastal state. Some desalination plants exist where feasible, but they are costly to run and can need constant repairs.49. Wells are much more reliable sources of freshwater, and California is hoping that these deep wells may be the answer to their severe water shortage.
One problem with these sources is that the deep water also has a higher level of salt than shallower aquifers. This means that some wells may even need to undergo desalination after extraction, thus increasing the cost. Research from the exhaustive study of groundwater from over 950 drilling logs has just been published. New estimates of the water reserves now go up to 2,700 billion cubic meters of fresh water.
28.According to the text, what causes the water crisis in California?
A. Previous drilling of wells.
B. The messy distribution system.
C. Constant droughts in the area.
D. The adoption of new pumping practices.
29.The research teams think it to extract water from deeper aquifers.
A. expensive but practical
B. reliable and profitable
C. cost-free but demanding
D. cheap and environment-friendly
30. What is mentioned as a consequence of extracting water from deep underground?
A. The damage to aquifers.
B. The sinking of the land surface.
C. The decrease in operation costs.
D. The negative effects on the climate.
31. What is the author's purpose in writing the text?
A. To encourage people to save water.
B. To promote the sea water desalination.
C. To introduce a new way of extracting fresh water.
D. To draw people's attention to the droughts in California.
D
Virtual(虚拟的)reality(VR)---long advertised as the next big thing in technology -hasn't taken off as a consumer product, but employers consider it as a more effective tool for on-the-job training.
In virtual reality, things look and sound as if they were real, and the brain processes them as though they were a real experience. “People learn by doing.…getting feedback(反馈)on mistakes, and then repeating, says Stanford communication professor Jeremy Beilenson.
Not every workplace situation is appropriate for virtual reality training. Some skills require better experience in real life. But the technology is especially useful in training people for novel or emergency situations.
Verizon, for example, has been using the technology to train its workers in handling armed robberies -a common crime in the wireless industry. Workers can feel themselves being held at gunpoint, and in the process learn proper ways to put safety in the first place and decrease the risk of physical harm.
Feeling like they were at gunpoint creates a real stress response without putting employees in actual danger. “Verizon employees who survived robberies say the video version is true to life, says Lou Tedrick, who heads the company's learning and development. “The feelings they may have during the robbery are experienced during the VR experience, “she explains. “That realism makes them better prepared and more likely to remember the lessons.
But present software of virtual reality isn't yet good at responding to some other things, like how an employee rolls his eyes or raises his voice in an interview. So virtual reality could someday be programmed to understand the complex human action and help people make better decisions.
32. What can we learn about virtual reality from the text?
A. Virtual reality is designed to guarantee employees' safety.
B. Facial expressions can be identified by virtual reality software.
C. Virtual reality provides employees with the real life experience.
D. People consider virtual reality a very successful consumer product.
33.What does the author suggest by mentioning the example of Verizon?
A. Virtual reality is of great use in training people for urgent cases.
B. Virtual reality is more effective than any other way in an interview.
C. Virtual reality has been widely applied in job training in recent years.
D. Virtual reality can remind employees of danger while they are working.
34.What is the author's attitude towards the future of virtual reality?
A. Cautious. B. Doubtful.
C. Ambiguous. D. Hopeful.
35.What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Virtual Reality Goes to Work
B. Labor-free Tech Lights up Life
C. Virtual Reality Offers Better Jobs
D. Verizon Welcomes Virtual Reality
第二节 (共 5 小题;每小题 2.5 分,满分 12.5 分)
How do you relax after a stressful day in the office? There are many ways to help you relax. 36 It takes a little effort to get there but the benefits are great for our stressed-out lives. I am talking about the activity of forest bathing.
37 It was introduced as a national health programme by the country's government. Stressed Japanese workers are today still relaxing and reconnecting with nature. The Forest Therapy Society has certified 62 forest therapy sites in the country and the forest bathing movement is also booming in other parts of the world. It says, "Just as bathing in a hot spring helps to soak your cares away, going for a walk in the woods is said to have a comforting effect."
Forest bathing is about taking time to wander through woodland with no fixed plan or route and just expose yourself to the forest atmosphere. 38 That’s particularly good for people with mental health issues. A study conducted in 24 forests across Japan found that walking among trees lowered blood pressure, the pulse rate, thus improving our immune systems. 39
Another study carried out a few years ago by Stanford University in the US, found similar benefits. Brain scans showed reduced activity in an area of the brain linked to the risk of mental illness in participants who took a 90-minute walk among oaks, birds and squirrels. One of the researchers, Gregory Bratman, said, "There's an increasing body of evidence showing that natural areas benefit us at least emotionally with our mood and our physical development too." The evidence seems clear that forest bathing is a shot in the arm for stressed-out workers. So now is the time to get out and lose yourself in the natural environment. 40
A. But the best way lies in the great outdoors.
B. Connecting with nature has never been more urgent.
C. Forest bathing is rising in popularity around the world.
D. Having this exposure to nature seems to promote well-being.
E. You could even hug a tree as it could be your new best friend!
F. The Japanese concept of forest bathing dates back to the 1980s.
G. It also found forest bathing can decrease stress, anxiety, and depression.

A light rain was falling as my sister Jill and I ran out of the shop, eager to get home and play with the presents that our parents had prepared for us and our baby sister, Sharon. Across the street from the shop was a gas station where the Greyhound bus stopped, which was closed for New Year, but I saw a family standing outside the locked door, gathering closely together under the narrow overhang in an attempt to keep dry. I wondered briefly why they were there but then forgot about them as I raced to keep up with Jill.
Once we got home, there was barely time to enjoy our presents. We had to go off to our grandparents ‘house for our annual family dinner. As we drove down the highway through town, I noticed the family was still there, standing outside the closed gas station. My father was driving very slowly down the highway. The closer we got to the turnoff for my grandparents' house, the slower the car went. Suddenly, my father made a U-turn in the middle of the road and said that he couldn't stand it. "What? “asked my mother. “It’s those people back there at the station, standing in the rain. They got children. It’s New Year. I can't stand it.
When my father pulled into the service station, I saw that there were five of them: the parents and three children-two girls and a small boy, who were getting wet standing there. My father rolled down his window. “Happy New Year, he said."
“Thanks. You, too, “the man replied. He was very tall and had to bend slightly to look into the car. Jill, Sharon, and I looked at the children, and they looked back at us. “You waiting on the bus? “My father asked. The man said that they were. They were going to Birmingham, where he had a brother and chances of a job. Knowing the bus wouldn't come along for several hours, my father invited them to our home to shelter from the rain.

Dear Steven,
I am Li Hua. I’m glad to tell you that our school will celebrate its 100th birthday this July. Can you recommend a student to address the opening ceremony in English?
Above all, the student is supposed to have a good command of both written and spoken English. At the same time, he or she must hold a positive attitude towards study and life and enjoy good fame or high popularity among students. Of course, it would be even better if the student has enough experience of giving speeches.
I would appreciate it very much if you could do me the favor. Looking forward to your early reply.
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节 读后续写(满分 25 分)
One possible version:
The man thought about it for a moment, but then refused. He said he didn't want to put us to any bother. My father explained that the rain would last long and our house was near the station. After my parents ‘strong persuasion, he finally agreed and thanked us all the time. They climbed into the car. They had no luggage, only the clothes they were wearing. Once they settled in, my father looked back over his shoulder handing them some tissues to wipe the rainwater from their faces.
When we got out of the car at our house, the three children ran through the front door happily. My mother noticed all their clothes were wet, so she found some of ours for them to change. Jill and I decided to share our New Year presents with the children. One of the girls chose Jill’s doll and immediately hugged it to her breast. When the rain stopped, my father drove them to the station. As we drove away, I watched out the window as long as I could, looking back at their happy faces. That was the day when Jill and I learned the joy of making others happy.
