The ear is made up f three different sectins that wrk tgether t cllect sunds and send them t the brain: the uter ear, the middle ear, and the inner ear.
The uter ear is made up f the pinna and the ear canal. The pinna is the part f the ear yu see n the side f yur head. Its main jb is t gather sunds and funnel them t the ear canal, which is the pathway that leads t the middle ear. Glands (腺) in the skin lining the ear canal prduce earwax (耳垢),which prtects the canal by cleaning ut dirt and helping t prevent infectins.
The middle ear is an air-filled hle that turns sund waves int vibratins and delivers them t the inner ear. The middle ear is separated frm the uter ear by the eardrum (鼓膜),a thin piece f tissue stretched tight acrss the ear canal. Sunds hit the eardrum, causing it t mve.
The vibratins frm the middle ear change int nerve signals in the inner ear. The inner ear includes the cchlea (耳蜗) and the semicircular canals. The snail-shaped cchlea changes the vibratins frm the middle ear int nerve signals. These signals travel t the brain alng the cchlear nerve, als knwn as the hearing nerve.
Teach kids t prtect their hearing by paying attentin t the nise levels they’re expsed t. Have them turn dwn the vlume n vide games, TVs, and, especially, prtable music players. Make sure they take hearing prtectin ( like earplugs r prtective headphnes) when they’ll be arund lud nises (at a cncert, car race, etc. ).
If yur child has any truble with hearing, turn t yur dctr. Treating hearing lss early can limit the damage.

Examining fish parts left ver frm prcessing helped t give her the idea fr a material that was useful and did nt harm the envirnment. “Why d we need t have hundreds f man-made plymers (聚合体) when nature has s many already available?” she asked. After mnths f testing, Hughes prduced a strng, flexible sheet that frms at temperatures belw 100 degrees Celsius. Inventr James Dysn said that MarinaTex is “strnger, safer and much mre sustainable” than plastic . It is als easier t break dwn. Hughes will receive abut $41,000 in prize mney as the first-place winner f the James Dysn Award.
