AWhen the clock struck midnight on February 23, my flight left the Egyptian capital Cairo heading for Beijing.I was about to start a 10month program organized by China's Public Diplomacy Association.During this program offered to African journalists to better understand China and report on some important events, one being the Forum on ChinaAfrica Cooperation in September, I gained a lot of knowledge regarding the culture, history, and features of this vast society.Upon arrival, I first sought out the Egyptian community in Beijing, and met two journalists from my country who worked for Xinhua News Agency and China Global Television Network. Our gathering point was an Egyptian coffee shop in Sanlitun, a wellknown meeting place for foreigners in Beijing. Most of our meetings were spent sharing experiences about life in China.Indeed, I was able to begin understanding the country through their stories.Plus, through those friends I expanded my circle.I also struck up a relationship with some Chinese journalists while participating in activities with my African peers. They helped me appreciate the rich culture and eventful history of ancient China, as well as the massive developments over the last 40 years, both politically and economically.During my stay, I traveled to nine provinces and visited masses of cities. The place I was most connected with was Sanya due to its similarities to Sharm ElSheikh, one of the world's most famous tourist destinations, located on the Red Sea in Egypt.Shanghai will also last in my memory.I discover that this city is not only distinguished for business deals, but has a colorful history illustrated by its fantastic museum, which tells the story of how Shanghai's importance grew in the 19th century. When walking in Beijing or any of the other cities I visited, I always felt history mixed with signs of modernity, mirroring four decades of hard work.I recorded many aspects of my life in China. 1.Why did the writer come to China?A.Working for Xinhua News Agency.B.Visiting some famous cities.C.Expanding his circle of friends.D.Covering important events. 根据第二段中的“During this program offered to African journalists to better understand China and report on some important events ”可知,作者前往中国的目的是报道相关的事件。故选D。2.What do foreigners usually do when meeting in Sanlitun?A.Talk about their life experiences.B.Just have a drink in a coffee shop.C.Share stories in their own countries.D.Participate in activities解析:选A 细节理解题。由第三段中的“Most of our meetings were spent sharing experiences about life in China.” A。3.Which of the following is the reason for the writer's mentioning Sharm ElSheikh?A.He missed his hometown.B.It is a famous tourist destination.C.It has something in common with Sanya.D.It is located in Egypt. 由第五段中的“The place I was most connected with was Sanya due to its similarities to Sharm ElSheikh”可知,作者提到沙姆沙伊赫的原因是因为它和三亚有一些共同之处。故选C。4.Which word can best describe the writer's impression of China?A.Dissatisfying.        B.Awesome.C.Moving.  D.Horrible解析:选B 推理判断题。由全文尤其是第四段“They helped me appreciate the rich culture and eventful history of ancient China”可推知,作者对中国的印象是极其好的。故选B。BOlder adults who practice tai chi are less likely to fall, a small new study suggests. Around one in three US adults aged 65 or older report having fallen and 38 percent of these falls lead to injuries that can result in hospitalization, or death. The team, led by researchers at the Oregon Health & Science University School of Nursing, says it hopes the findings lead to more older adults taking up the practice to prevent themselves from experiencing large hospital bills, a loss of independence or premature death.Developed in China in the 1670s, tai chi combines slow, flowing movements along with deep breathing to keep the body moving and to practice balance, which is often recommended for older adults. There has been some evidence in past research that shows tai chi can help reduce falls.A study found that tai chi was the best exercise in treating balance issues in adults with Parkinson's disease. Additionally, a review also found that tai chi reduced the fear of falling in adults living in retirement communities. For the current study, the team looked at 670 Oregonians who were 78 years old on average over 24 weeks. To participate, the adults had to either have fallen once in the last 12 months or have a doctor's referral to being at risk of falls. They were then assigned to one of three exercise groups: tai chi; stretching exercise; or multimodal exercise. After six months, the tai chi group was 58 percent less likely to experience falls compared to the stretching group and 31 percent less likely compared to the multimodal exercise group.Coauthor Dr Peter Marmer told HealthDay that regaining balance requires a combination of muscle strength along with feedback from your eyes and ears.“Tai chi directly challenges the integration of all those things,” he said. 5.What are old people advised to do according to the text?A.Take up a new practice.B.Use tai chi to get rid of hospital bills.C.Exercise more to stop falling.D.Practice tai chi for their good. 根据第二段“...says it hopes the findings lead to more older adults taking up the practice to prevent themselves from ...” 6.What does the author intend to do in Paragraph 4?A.Add some background information.B.Provide evidence for the previous point.C.Summarize the findings of the study.D.Introduce a new topic for discussion. 由第三段最后一句“There has been some evidence in past research that shows tai chi can help reduce falls.” B。7.Which of the following groups experienced the most falls?A.The tai chi group.B.The team led by researchers.C.The stretching group.D.The multimodal exercise group. 根据第五段最后一句可知,the tai chi group的跌倒事故最少,其次是the multimodal exercise group,最多的为the stretching group。 C。8.What can be a suitable title for the text?A.Tai chi ends fallsB.Tai chi works for the oldC.The Chinese element — tai chiD.Tai chi — of practical use again解析:选B 标题归纳题。首先根据文章提炼关键词“tai chi”“the old”“fall”。 Nowadays fewer students take exercise due to various reason and some students fall ill every now and then because of they are not healthy or strong enough. However, we should take exercise regularly to improve our health.First of all, taking PE classes seriously. In PE classes we can build up our bodies with the careful guidance of PE teachers.Secondly, it is of great important to make it a routine to exercise after class or during breaks. In addition, it was also a good idea to join a sports club that you are interested. As the old saying go, “The first wealth is health.” Let's do more exercise to live a better and healthy life.答案:第一句:reason→reasons;去掉of第二句:However→Therefore/Thus第三句:taking→take第四句:with→under第五句:important→importance第六句:was→is; interested后加in第七句:go→goes第八句:healthy→healthier. Dear Tom,Glad to learn that as an exchange student, you'd like to join our school's society concerning Tai chi in the future to build up your body.As a martial art and specifically as a defensive art in China, Tai chi enjoys a long history.
