FALMONT—On 17 March,476 students and 36 teachers at Falmnt Primary Schl escaped an earthquake that hit the cunty at 2:27 p.m.Only 5 students suffered slight injuries,despite the current figures f 7 killed and ver 200 injured① in the disaster area at large②.
Alice Brwn,head teacher at Falmnt Primary Schl,was teaching when the flr began t shake.Her students' reactin③ was quick and crrect—they mved under their desks,head first,and held n t④ the legs f the desks.At the same time⑤,Miss Brwn quickly pened the classrm dr,in case⑥ it became damaged during the shaking and culd nt pen.There were lud crashes f glass breaking and things falling t the grund,but the students remained still and waited calmly and quietly.

The day began like any ther n Gldshre Beach.Peple were walking,running r simply sitting n the sandy beach,enjying the warm sea air and the sft wind that brushed their hair.Sabrina was ne f the happy turists until she nticed smething dd⑱.“The water was like the bubbles⑲n the tp f a beer,” she later explained.“It wasn't calm and it wasn't ging in and then ut.It was just cming in and in and in.”Sabrina had just learnt abut tsunamis in a Gegraphy lessn.It immediately ccurred t⑳her that these were signs f an appraching tsunami.[2]
