What can you make if I give you pieces of paper? Look at Zach’s works! He is from No.15 Middle School and he has talent in origami (折纸). He has folded a “kingdom” with his hands. But he wasn’t born with this talent.
When Zach was a fourth-grader, he found his brother’s paper-folding book. It got him interested in origami. Following the 50 steps shown in the book, he made his first work, a paper peacock within two hours. Since then, he has read many books about origami and practices in his spare time. His “fantasy world” had many members in two years, such as monsters and robots. And he made his favorite work after entering junior high school. It’s a paper dragon that involved almost 2,000 steps.
Zach used to fold paper himself until he met Nathan, an eighth-grader at his school, who also loves origami. They set up a paper-folding club together. To their joy, their school sponsored it by offering them a big room to host a paper-folding class every Wednesday afternoon. The club soon attracted people. Now it has more than 20 members. They show their works and teach students how to fold. On February 28th, the club also held a speech for the kids in the school library.
“It’s really exciting to develop my hobby and share it with others at the same time,” said Zach. “I hope more and more people get to know origami and love this art.”

If you walk through a park in the morning or in the evening, you might see a lot of people doing these slow and beautiful movements— Carry the tiger over the mountain and White crane spreads its wings. In fact, they are doing Taichi.

①Lately, researchers have done an experiment on whether online brain games can improve people’s IQ. More than 8,600 people aged 18 to 60 were asked to play online brain games designed by the researchers to improve their memory, reasoning and other skills, for at least 10 minutes a day, three times a week. They were compared to more than 2,700 people who didn’t play any brain games, but spent a similar amount of time surfing the Internet. All participants were given an “IQ test’ before and after the experiment.
②Researchers found the people who did the brain training didn’t do any better on the test after six weeks than people who had simply been on the Internet. “If you’re playing these games like SNAKE (贪吃蛇) because they’re fun, that’s absolutely fine,” said Adrian Owen, the study’s lead author. “But if you’re expecting these games to improve your IQ, our studies suggest they don’t work.”
③It’s also found that brain games which are supposed to improve memory, reasoning and other cognitive (认知的) skills are played by millions of people worldwide, though few studies have examined if the games work. Not many studies suggest the skills used in these brain games transfer (迁移) to the real world.
④Instead of playing brain games, the professor, Kramer said people would be better off getting some exercise. He said physical activity can help produce new brain cells.
⑤Other experts said brain games might be useful, but only if they weren’t fun. “If you set the level for these games to a very high level where you don’t get the answers very often and it really annoys you, then it may be useful,” said Philip.
⑥If people are enjoying the brain games, they probably aren’t being challenged and might as well be playing a regular video game. Philip said people should consider learning a new language or sport if they really want to improve their brain power. “Computer games were not an easy shortcut. Getting smart is hard work.” he added.
36.According to the article, ________ is NOT useful to develop brain power.
A.learning a language B.getting some physical exercise
C.playing challenging games D.playing fun games
37.What can we infer from the studies in the article?
A.Many studies show that brain games are an effective way of improving IQ.
B.Few studies suggest the skills used in these brain games transfer to the real world.
C.People may get smarter if they do more physical activities such as running and swimming.
D.Surfing the Internet may be more effective in improving cognitive skills than video games.
38.The structure of the article may be ________.
A. B.
C. D.
39.What would be the best title for the article?
A.Does SNAKE Make You Smarter?
B.Is Getting Smarter as Easy as Playing Games?
C.How Can We Play Brain Games Well?
D.How Can We Get Smarter?

People say that family is the first school of life, and parents are a child’s first teachers. On Oct.23, the Law on Family Education Promotion (《家庭教育促进法》) was passed by the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress. It came into effect (开始生效) on Jan. 1, 2022.
The law says that parents should be responsible for family education. For example, the law bans parents from placing too much pressure on their children. Parents should carefully organize time for children to study, rest, play and exercise, and make sure children don’t become addicted to (沉迷于) the Internet.
Also, it says that society should provide guidance (指导), support and services for family education. In fact, 50 percent of parents said they do not know how to educate their children. The law encourages schools to organize family education guidance and practice activities. Local governments are asked to help schools and families to better communicate with each other.
The law also gives special mention to children of migrant workers (外出务工人员) in rural areas. They may be alone when their parents have left to work in cities.
