Step 1 Free talk 1. What charities in China do you know about? 2. How do they help people? 3. What international charities do you know about? 4. Have you ever heard of the famous international charities like ORBIS, Oxfam and UNICEF? Step 2 Presentation 1. Introduce some international charities to Ss. e.g. ORBIS: help the blind people in poor areas use a flying eye hospital to visit poor areas do operations on the plane teach local doctors and nurses new skills Oxfam: works to help people in poor countries. sell rice to raise money for the poor donate money and things to the poor care about the growth of crops organize Oxfam Trailwalker every year 3. Watch a picture, then say something about WWF. e.g. It protects animals and prevents people hunting or killing animals. It encourages people to live happily with animals. It also asks people to protect our environment and reduce the pollution. Step 3 Practice 1. Complete Part A on page 93. Check the answers together. 2. Please listen to Part B, answer: How does UNICEF help people? UNICEF: build a better world for everyone provides basic education for children in poor areas works for the equal rights of girls and women works to prevent the spread of some diseases 3. Work in groups, introduce international charities. Use the conversation in Part B as a model. Step 4 Comic strip 1. watch and answer Listen to the recording, answer some questions: What is needed for charity ? What does Hobo want Eddie to do? What does Eddie want to do first? Why? How far will they go? 2. Read the conversation between Eddie and Hobo. Try to recite it. 3. Fill in the blanks. Step 5 Discussion As a student, what can we do to support charities? Step 6 Homework 1. To search the Internet for more information about charities. 2. To remember the new words and phrases. 3. To preview Reading on Pages 94 and 95.
