Paragraph l:
Thus, Susan began hiking up. At first, she went up at a brisk pace. However, the higher we climbed, the steeper the trail became. It was not long before we began sweating. “I can’t walk any further!” Susan complained breathlessly. She was thirsty, sweaty and exhausted. Handing her a bottle, I suggested taking a break. Minutes later, we continued our way. Susan followed, falling further and further behind. “ Hold on! We’re almost to the top!” “ Susan, you’re a real climber!” Both Nels and I cheered for her. Gasping, Susan took every step with great effort, progressing slowly but firmly. I was proud she didn’t quit.
Paragraph 2:
An hour later, we made it to the top. “How awesome!” Susan yelled with wild joy. Falling leaves, red, yellow and orange, danced gracefully in the air. Below us, miles of fields and hills stretched out as far as we could see. “ We’re on the top of the world! It feels so good!” Susan was enchanted, immersed in the pleasure never experienced. Resting on the rocks, we felt the refreshing breeze brushing our cheeks. “Anyone still miss her phone?” I joked. Susan rolled her eyes, laughing out loud, “ Remember to call me next time you go hiking!” I felt relieved and rewarded. This hiking was worth all the pains.

M: These aren’t notes! This is a full text!
Text 3

W: Sorry, no, not today. You have to tidy your room.

Text 5
M: Do you have any plans for tonight? How about going for a walk?
W: Oh! That’s the last thing I want to do. Let’s go dancing in the square instead.

Text 6
M: May I help you, madam?
W: Yes, my friends and I want to watch a performance. So I would like to buy some tickets for next week.

M: Yes, at No. 403 on Lincoln Street. It’s 20 square metres larger than the one on Green Street.

Test 9
M: Hey, Mary! It’s Jack! Have you read the Independent’s Job page today? There is an ad for a PR agent. That is, public relations agent.
W: Wasn’t that company next to ours at last month’s fashion exhibition?
M: Yes.
W: What does the ad say about the actual job?
M: Let’s see…getting in touch with editors…writing articles, making PR plans, oh, and developing a website.
W: Well, I don’t know anything about websites.
M: It would be more about the ideas for this job. Tell you what, I emailed the page to you---why don’t you read it yourself? I would apply if I were you. You’re always saying how bored you are here.
M: Oh, Ok, thanks. I’ll take a look at it and we can talk about it later.
Text 10
Ladies and gentlemen,
Davos is one of the most famous towns in Europe. It has a population of about 13,000. Most of them are immigrants from Germany. The rest are French and Italian. They all use English as their main language.
Davos has a pleasant climate. In summer, it is an ideal place to recharge your batteries. People come here to breathe the fresh air and do some healthy activities. In winter, the small town is packed with skiers. They take the cable car to reach the ski slopes at an altitude of 2,610 metres. There are so many people that it is often difficult to get a hotel room.
The biggest event here is the World Economic Forum, which is held every winter. It has a huge impact on the direction of the world economy.
There are only two main streets in Davos. Like other major cities, Davos uses buses as its main means of transportation. Guests can purchase the “Guest Card” at the hotel and travel on local buses and trains with it.
Now let me tell you our schedule. Tomorrow morning, we’ll have breakfast in the dining room at seven o’clock. Then we will take the bus to visit Davos Hall. After lunch, we’ll take the cable car to the ski slopes. We’ll come back to the hotel for dinner at five o’clock.
