    21. C 第一段“Due to the absence of broad roads, there are only three ways to explore below…”

    22. B 由第二段第一句话中的“…is known for extremes…”

根据第二段中的“but he misread the savings on her screen as an additional charge. He decided she was acting deliberately and began to argue.”

根据第五段中的“We've all witnessed uncomfortable scenes like this in public places. The grocery scene was another example of how our trust in others has eroded.”

根据倒数第二段中的“We felt bad about how that man treated you and wanted to buy this for you”可知,作者和妻子对于那个男人对待收银员的方式感到难过,因此给收银员买了一瓶水。

28.D 根据文章第一段的but researchers have suggested tasks like dusting, scrubbing floors and washing the windows might help adults to stay healthy into old age.

The study involved 249 participants aged 21-64 and 240 participants aged 65-90.

30.D The study involved 249 participants aged21-64 and 240 participants aged 65-90 研究参与者并不都是老年人,故A选项错误。while they were also assessed as being at lower risk of having a fall. We cannot draw any conclusions from this study that it is specifically protective,”she said. C项错误。The team also found cognitive scores were5% higher for older adults...89 minutes a week. 故选D.

31.C“the study was interesting but had little meaning as people who are not so well may be expected to do less housework.”

根据第三段第一句的young people like to act right away without much thinking可知答案,故选D
根据第五段they do not mean to cause any trouble; it is just that they feel cut off (隔绝)from the older people's world可知,年轻人并不是想制造麻烦,他们只是感觉跟年纪大的人不在同一个世界里,与他们不同。故选A
根据第五段they do not mean to cause any trouble; it is just that they feel cut off (隔绝) from the older people's world, into which they have not yet been accepted.
If your parents see that you have a high sense of responsibility, they will certainly give you the right to do what you want to do.

    Text 1

M: What are you doing with that phone book?

W: I would like to fly to Atlanta for a few days. My boss told me to make the arrangements, and he’ll pay me back. I’m looking for a travel agent.

M: Honestly, travel websites all offer much more competitive prices.

    Text 2

M: Oh, man. This is awful! It’s raining outside. We were supposed to take the dogs to the park.

W: Don’t worry about it. We can do that another day. Maybe today, we can just stay home and do some yoga.

    Text 3

M: You’re late. Was the school bus delayed again?

W: No, I didn’t take it. My dad’s car was still in the garage. I kept my bike behind his car and I couldn’t get it out till he left.

    Text 4

M: Mary, a recent study on job interviews says the best meeting time is between 9:00 and 11:00 in the morning, and the worst is after 3:00 in the afternoon.

W: Good news indeed. Mine is at 10:00 am.

    M: Oh, you are lucky.

    Text 5

W: Hi, Mike. I stopped by to see if you were still looking for a roommate to share your house. My brother wants to move out.

M: Yep, I sure am. Ever since I cut back on my work hours to go to school, I’ve been really low on cash.

    Text 6

M: You played tennis fairly well.

    W: Thanks. So did you.

M: Do you often come here to play?

W: Not very often. I often play with other teachers in our school playground. What about you?

M: I come here twice a week. I used to play with my brother in a stadium near my home. But he went abroad last month, so I have to find a new partner. I’m lucky enough to have such a good player like you in the club.

W: Thanks again. So much for the break and another round?

M: OK. It’s your turn to serve the ball.

    Text 7

M: Hi Maria, it’s James. I hear the school barbecue’s not on Wednesday now?

W: Yeah, that’s right. Everyone’s busy on that day, so it’ll be on Thursday.

M: Good. When does it start?

    W: Well, that’s changed too. Instead of 7:15 it’ll be 6:30, because there’s a band booked for 7:45.

M: What kind of music? They had a rock band at the last barbecue.

W: This band will be even better. They do hip hop and their singer is from South Africa. He also plays jazz but he’s not doing that at the barbecue.

M: Great! Where is the barbecue going to be?

W: You’ll never guess — next to the swimming pool! The school secretary only agreed because we can’t use the garden this year, and there’s a match on the sports field.

    M: Excellent! See you there.

    W: Bye!

    Text 8

M: What prompted you to pursue a career as a TV host?

W: Well, I had no idea I was going to be a TV host. I was actually thinking of going to work in film production or for a talent agency. After college, I first worked for a publishing firm for two years. But I never looked for this job, it found me.

M: You said you were shy growing up. Is it still hard for you to be in front of the camera?

W: Since I was very shy, my mom put me in acting classes to help me get over my shyness. I tried it and then realized that I have no talent for acting. Well, I say I am still shy. I don’t tend to go up and introduce myself to others. But at work I’m not shy at all, because I know everyone there.

M: What do you like doing when you are free?

W: I like watching sports games. Actually, I am a great sportswoman. I do a lot of skiing and skating during the winter and I play baseball in spring. I also play table tennis. But I think swimming is my favorite sport.

    Text 9

W: Hey, could you help me get something from the top shelf, please?

M: Sure, what do you need?

W: I need some paper for the printer. I’m not sure why it’s all the way up there. It’s usually on the bottom shelf.

M: No problem. Here you are.

W: Thanks. Have we met before? I’ve been here for almost three years, and I don’t think I’ve seen you around here before. I’m Betty Applegate, Mr. Wolf’s assistant.

M: Nice to meet you, Ms. Applegate. I’m Miles Chaplin. I just started in the accounting department last week.

W: Oh, wonderful! So, how are you settling in?

M: Everyone is very friendly around here. At my last job, everybody was really competitive. That’s why I left, actually. It’s refreshing (令人耳目一新的) to work in an environment where people actually cooperate.

W: I think many people stay here because the atmosphere is so relaxed. I have to confess (承认) that I made more money at my previous job, but I’m so much happier here. Some things are just more important than money, you know?

    M: I couldn’t agree more.

    Text 10

W: It’s 3 pm. Time for news from The World of Medicine.

Does sitting make you sad? Australian researchers found that middle-aged women who sat for over 7 hours a day were 47 percent more likely to show sense of depression than those who sat for 4 hours or fewer. Those who engaged in no physical activity were 26 percent more likely to have symptoms of depression 3 years later than those who exercise regularly. Sitting for long periods has also been linked to heart disease.

How can you detect a liar through a text message? Watch for a delayed response. When college students were asked to tell a lie during an interview with a computer, they took 10 percent longer on average to send a message and they did more editing than usual.

Can marriage beat cancer? Married people were 20 percent less likely to die from the disease than those who were unmarried, according to a Harvard study of more than 730,000 people. They were also more likely to get the disease detected (发现) at an earlier stage and receive proper treatment. A husband or wife can urge you to seek medical help and support you during tough chemical therapy, radiation (放射疗法) and other treatments.
