Teaching background
The teaching content of this unit is unit 2 of module 7. This is a reading class, which focuses on cultivating students' reading and writing ability. This unit introduces the adventures of Tom Sawyer and Mr. Jackson's feelings after reading it. When learning this text, first ask students to skim quickly, and then use the words in the box to answer the questions in activity 1. Then read carefully, find out the key phrases and sentence patterns in the text, and be able to skillfully complete the exercises after class to cultivate students' reading ability. Then write a short passage according to the text genre to train students' writing ability.

Step 1 Warming up & Leading in
1.Greetings.
2.Lead-in
The teacher let students watch a video and asks the students “Do you know the boys’ name in the video?” “Do you know the title of the work?”
After watching the video, choose some students to answer the questions.
Step 2 Presentation
Before reading
1.The teacher show the new words : adventure,southern,run away,dead,neighbour,funeral,alive,state,pay for,action,everyday,dialogue。
2.The teacher explain the new words to the students and let the students make sentences。
3.Let students read the words and give them 5minutes to remember the words.
While reading
1.Let students look at the words in Activity 1 and translate the questions: What kind of story is The Adventures of Tom Sawyer? When and where is the story set?
2.Let students Read the text quickly with these questions and find the answers to the questions.
3. Let students read the text carefully and underline key phrases and sentence patterns.
4. Lead the students to analyze the sentence patterns, tell them that they are passive voice, and explain what is passive voice,when to use the passive voice and how it is formed.
eg. a.We plant many trees every year.→Many trees are planted by us every year.
b.Lily often do her homework after dinner.→Lily's homework is often done by her after dinner.
The teacher write 5 sentences and let students change the sentences into the passive voice.

②We clean the classroom every day.
③People grow rice in South China.
④My father makes dinner every day.
⑤Kate often washes clothes.
5. Let students listen to the tape and read after the tape, pay attention to the pronunciation and intonation.
After reading
1.Let students finish the table in Activity 3
2.Ask students:What is your favourite book?Who is its writer?Who are its main characters?What does the story tell?and let students finish the part of“Your favourite book ”。
3.Let students say the meaning of the words in the box and do Activity 4.
4.Choose two students to say the answers and check the answers.
Step 4 Homework
Write a passage about your favourite book.Use the passage in Activity 2 and the information in Activity 6 to help you.Start like this:My favourite book is Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone by J.K Rowling.It is a story about a boy …)
