U.S. Open Championships
The US Open has been in existence for more than 120 years. The first tournament was held in 1881 at the Newport Casino. It was called the US National Singles Championship. Entry was limited to only those clubs which were members of the United States National Lawn Tennis Association, and the competitors were all male, competing in both singles and doubles. Richard Sears won the men’s championship and he went on to win the next six men’s singles championships.
The Wimbledon
In 1875, the All England Croquet Club was troubled financially due to declining membership. A new sport called lawn tennis was gaining fast in popularity and taking away the members. Two years later, a new roller was needed for maintaining its lawns so the club proposed to hold a tournament to raise money. Twenty-two players entered that first Wimbledon tournament which was won by Spencer Gore in straight sets over W. C. Marshall. Two hundred spectators each paid a shilling to watch the final game, enabling the club to buy the needed roller plus some extra cash.
The French Open
The very first French Championship was held way back in 1891, and the tournament has since grown into one of the four tennis Grand Slam tournaments we know today. The first competition was a one-day national championship which was won by a British. The competition was poorly attended by world class players. It took 24 years before it became fully international and an accepted tennis grand slam event. After the First World War, French tennis was achieving stature. Suzanne Lenglen was the predominant French player, winning the championships six times between 1920 and 1926.
The Australian Open
The very first tennis tournament ever played in Australia was held in January 1880, on the courts of the Melbourne Cricket Club. In 1905, the Australian Open was established as the Australasian Tennis Championship and was played at the Warehouseman's Cricket Ground in Melbourne. A few years ago, I took a sightseeing trip to Washington. D. C. Standing outside the Ronald Reagan Center, I heard a voice say, “Can you help me? ” When I turned around I saw an elderly blind woman with her hand extended. In a natural reflex, I reached into my pocket, pulled out all of my loose change and placed it on her hand without even looking at her. I was annoyed at being bothered by a beggar. But the blind woman smiled and said," I don't want your money. I just need help finding the post office. "
In a moment I realized what I had done. I judged another person simply for what I assumed she had to be. I hated what I saw in myself. This incident reawakened my belief in humility, even though I'd lost it for a moment.
The thing I had forgotten about myself is that I am an immigrant. I left Honduras and arrived in the U. S. at the age of 15. I started my new life with two suitcases, my brother and sister, and a strong, serious-minded mother. Through the years, I have been a dishwasher, mechanic and pizza delivery driver among many other humble jobs, and eventually I became a network engineer.
In my own life, I have experienced many open acts of prejudice. I remember a time, at age 17 I worked as a waiter, and I heard a father tell his little boy that if he did not do well in school, he would end up like me. I have also witnessed the same treatment of my family and friends, so l know what it's like, and I should have known better.
But now, living in my American middle class lifestyle, it is too easy to forget my past, to forget who I am and where I have been, and to lose sight of where I want to be going. That blind woman on the streets of Washington. D.C. , cured me of my blindness. She reminded me of my belief in humility and to always keep my eyes and heart open. By the way, I helped that lady to the post office. And in writing this essay, I hope to thank her for the priceless lesson.
56. We can learn from the first two paragraphs that ___ .
A. the author was a native American
B. the blind woman needed the money badly
C. the author was as poor as the blind woman
D. the author regretted his act of prejudice
57. According to Paragraph 4,hearing the father's words, the author was probably____.
A. rather hurt B. very excited

B. One should think about one's past as often as possible.
C. One should treat others equally with love and respect.
D. One should be nice to the elderly and the disabled.
59. Why does the author say he is thankful to the blind woman at the end of the passage?
A. She has made him value what he has right now.
B. She has reminded him of the past experiences.
C. He has got a chance to think about his past and future because of her.
D. He has regained his belief in humility with her help.
60. What can be the best title for the passage?
A. How my dream comes true B. A priceless lesson in the street
C. A Belief that will never change D. Learn from your past

The official opening of Beijing Daxing International Airport caps a long design and building process. Designed by the late architect Zaha Hadid and her Chinese partners, the airport is built for the future, having a terminal the size of 97 soccer grounds--as well as customer-service robots that provide travelers with flight updates and airport information.
Called "starfish" by Chinese media for its shape of five concourses(大厅) connected to a main hall, Daxing Airport aims to reduce the walking distance for passengers. The airport authority has promised a distance of no more than 600 meters (about eight minutes of walking) between security checkpoints and the remotest boarding gate.
This new modern airport employs a special intelligent lighting system, supported by eight big C-shaped columns that let in the sunlight, brightening the architecture and structure. Therefore, it minimizes the need to use electric lighting.
To offer a more refreshing travel experience, five outdoor courtyards with the themes "Silk Garden", "TeaGarden", "Porcelain Garden", "Countryside Garden" and" Chinese garden" feature at the end of the five departure lounges(等候室) for use by passengers waiting for their flights. Travelers will be scanned on cameras using facial recognition. Counters will be fully automated to capture face photos and relay them in each part of the journey through the airport, including security and the departure gate.
China is projected to overtake the United States as the world's biggest air travel market by 2022. The "modest" initial operational target at Daxing is to accommodate 72 million passengers and 2 million tons of goods annually by 2025. The ambitious master plan calls for the building of a total of seven runways, and moving at least 100 million passengers and 4 million tons of goods a year through the airport.

D. To make boarding gates within easy reach.
62. What can the airport's lighting system be described as?
A. High-end. B. Energy-saving.
C. Passenger-friendly. D. Strangely-formed.
63. What can be inferred about the five outdoor courtyards?
A. They reflect the Chinese tradition.
B. They use popular technique.
C. They promote Chinese goods to people.
D. They follow the latest world trend.
64. According to the passage, which of the following statements is NOT True?
A. The design and construction of Daxing International Airport took a long time.
B. Zaha Hadid, the architect of Daxing International Airport, has passed away.
C. Passengers pass through security and the boarding gate by automatically capturing pictures of faces.
D. China has now overtaken the United States to become the world's largest air travel market.
65. What do the numbers in the last paragraph indicate?
A. The airport's market. B. The airport's project.
C. The airport's potential. D. The airport's facilities.

These days, it's not unusual to see middle-aged men collecting Star Wars action figures, office workers wearing Hello Kitty accessories, or celebrities like David Beckham playing with Lego bricks. It's becoming more and more common to see adult taking an interest in toys, comic books and the activities that are traditionally associated with children. This phenomenon has given rise to a new word: kidult.
What lies behind the phenomenon? One is about adults' nostalgia (怀旧之情)for the carefree days of childhood, and this is especially true with today's fast-paced, stressful lifestyles. Another is about a societal change in recent decades where people are starting families later. As a result, they have more time and money to spend on themselves. Some adults could only window-shop for their dream toys when they were kids, but now they can afford that radio controlled car or high-priced doll they have always wanted.
Businesses have been quick to exploit the kidult trend, and the number of toy stores that target adults has risen. Companies are repackaging products from past decades and also bringing out new ones for adults. Lego, for example, has brought out an architectural series featuring landmarks from around the world.
Society traditionally disapproves of adults who refuse to put aside childhood interests, viewing the refusal as a sign of social immaturity and irresponsibility. Those who agree with this view sometimes claim that kidults are suffering from the pop-psychology concept known as Peter Pan Syndrome, an anomaly (异常)that people remain emotionally at the level of teenagers. On a grander scale, these kidult opponents argue that such delayed adulthood causes couples to marry later and have fewer children. This in turn can lead to shrinking national economies, for there needs to be a generational replenishment(补充)of the workforce.
From the standpoint of kidults, though, this phenomenon is seen as nothing but harmless fun. Kidults insist that having youthful interests keeps them young, happy and creative, and their refusal to conform to society's acceptable tastes shows independent thinking. Besides, they argue that being part of the social trend of delayed adulthood is not purely a personal choice. The real causes include expensive housing, increased educational requirements for employment and poor work opportunities.
Whether the kidult phenomenon will continue to grow or prove to be a passing trend is anyone's guess. As the debate about it continues, remember that there is nothing wrong with being young at heart.
66. What does the kidult phenomenon refer to?
A. Adults act like children.
B. Adults have child-like tastes.
C. Adults go in for collecting toys.
D. Adults like playing with children.
67. Which of the following might cause the emergence of kidults?
A. Different living conditions.
B. More choices about toys.
C. High pressure of modern life.
D. Good memories of childhood.
68. What does the underlined word “exploit” probably mean?
A. Get used to.
B. Look forward to.
C. Take advantage of.
D. Make way for.
69. How does the text deal with the debate about kidults?
A. By strongly opposing kidult opponents.
B. By convincing readers to accept kidults.
C. By refusing to take a stand on the issue.
D. By presenting both sides of the argument.
70. What can we infer about the author's attitude towards the phenomenon from the last
paragraph?
A. Doubtful. B. Positive.
C. Disapproving. D. Uncaring.

Alice Moore is a teenager entrepreneur, who in May 2015 set up her business AilieCandy. By the time she was 13, her company was worth millions of dollars with the invention of a super-sweet treat that could save kids' teeth, instead of destroying them.
It all began when Moore visited a bank with her dad. On the outing, she was offered a candy bar. However, her dad reminded her that sugary treats were bad for her teeth. But Moore was sick of missing out on candies. So she desired to get round the warning, “Why can't I make a healthy candy that's good for my teeth so that my parents can't say no to it?” With that in mind, Moore asked her dad if she could start her own candy company. He recommended that she do some research and talk to dentists about what a healthier candy would contain.
With her dad's permission, she spent the next two years researching online and conducting trials to get a recipe that was both tasty and tooth-friendly. She also approached dentists to learn more about teeth cleaning. Consequently, she succeeded in making a kind of candy only using natural sweeteners, which can reduce oral bacteria.
Moore then used her savings to get her business off the ground. Afterwards, she and her father secured their first business meeting with a supermarket owner, who finally agreed to sell Moore's product — CanCandy.
As CanCandy's success grows, so does Moore's credibility as a young entrepreneur. Moore is enthusiastic about the candy she created, and she's also positive about what the future might bring. She hopes that every kid can have a clean mouth and a broad smile.
Meanwhile, with her parents' help, Moore is generally able to live a normal teenage life. Although she founded her company early on in life, she wasn't driven primarily by profit. Moore wants to use her unique talent to help others find their smiles. She donates 10% of AilicCandy's profits to Big Smiles.
