Exercise 2 高考英语阅读理解练习Wolves strike fear into the heart of many species, humans included. Our fear of them has brought them to the edge of dying out, as we have cruelly killed them as competitors and troublemakers. But researchers are discovering that the very fear they put into prey(被捕食者)species is exactly what helps make the ecosystem (生态系统) healthy.Yellowstone National Park is a typical example of just how wolves can help repair an ecosystem. A study in October 2018 analyzed 40 years of research on large animals inside the park.“Yellowstone has benefited from the reintroduction of wolves in ways that we did not anticipate, especially the complexity of biological interactions(互动) in the park,” explained Mark Boyce, a professor in the Department of Biological Sciences. “We were really surprised at that and we’d have never seen these responses if the park hadn’t adopted ecological-process management—allowing natural ecological processes to take place with the least human intervention.”After the wolves were reintroduced at Yellowstone, willow and cottonwood trees increased in number. The population of bears and bison also rose and what was once a ruling deer-wolf interaction is now more diverse. To learn more about just how wolves are beneficial, a short documentary from Quest explains how the presence of wolves influences the behavior of deer, which eventually makes entire ecosystems more biologically diverse and healthy. In this documentary, biologist Aaron Wirsing explored why wolves and other top predators (捕食者) were needed for diverse ecosystems to develop. Using a simple video camera, Wirsing is gaining a unique view point on predator-prey relationships and changing the way we think about wolves. The research is one more piece of evidence for why protecting these top predators is important not just to wolves as a species, but to hundreds of species at every level of an ecosystem. The fear they bring along may be the very angle that helps save them from dying out.1.What does the underlined word “anticipate” in Paragraph 3 probably mean?A.Expect. B.Understand. C.Notice. D.Accept.2.For what purpose was a documentary made?A.To introduce how wolves behave in the wild.B.To show how wolves benefit from ecosystems.C.To record how Aaron Wirsing observed wolves.D.To study what good wolves can do to ecosystems.3.What is the significance of the research?A.It proves wolves feed on hundreds of species.B.It helps prove the importance of protecting wolves.C.It shows the complex relationships between species.D.It provides evidence that wolves are endangered animals.4.What is the main idea of the passage?A.The fear of wolves is beneficial to ecosystems.B.The fear of wolves puts them in danger of disappearing.C.Yellowstone National Park owes its healthy ecosystems to wolves.D.The reintroduction of wolves in Yellowstone National Park is a success.参考答案:ADBAExercise 3 新题型写作练习Ali and his younger sister, Zahra, lived with their parents in a poor neighborhood. Their mother was very sick and their father was struggling to find a job, and they had only a little money with which to buy food. As they had not paid the rent for several months, the landlord was breathing down their necks. One day, Ali took Zahra’s shoes to a shoe repairman to be fixed, but he lost them on the way home. It wasn’t until he got home that he realized he had lost the shoes. He was afraid that his parents would be angry and disappointed, so he begged his sister to keep it secret. Zahra agreed and the two decided to share Ali’s running shoes. Zahra’s school hours were in the morning, so she would wear them first. After school, she would rush back and give them to Ali. He could then run to his school, which began in the afternoon. Although he ran as fast as he could, Ali often arrived late and was warned by the school.Ali heard about a long distance race that was held for the boys in the city. When he learned that the third prize was a new pair of shoes, he decided to take part. He ran home excitedly and promised his sister that he would win her the new shoes. The day of race arrived. Ali had a strong start, but halfway through the race he began to get tired and his legs began to ache. Getting more and more exhausted he thought only of Zahra and his promise to her. Dreaming of the new shoes he would win for his sister gave him strength, and he stayed right behind the two fastest runners, determined to finish third. Suddenly, as the finish line drew near, another runner collided (碰撞) with Ali from behind and he crashed to the ground.注意:1. 所续写短文的词数应为150左右;2. 应使用5个以上短文中标有下划线的关键词语;3. 续写部分分为两段,每段的开头语已为你写好;4. 续写完成后,请用下划线标出你所使用的关键词语。Paragraph 1:Ali looked up and saw the other boys rushing ahead. _______________________________________________________________________________Paragraph 2:Filled with delight, Ali walked home quickly. ___________________________________________________________________________Paragraph 1:Ali looked up and saw the other boys rushing ahead. Refusing to give up at this point, he jumped to his feet and ran as fast as he could. He dashed across the finish line and won the fourth prize. Thinking he would let her sister down, Ali couldn’t help sobbing. Just then he suddenly heard the announcement from the broadcast that he won the third prize as the runner who collided with Ali was disqualified for breaking the rule. Holding the shoes close to his chest during the award ceremony, Ali felt overjoyed and relieved as he eventually won the shoes for his sister.Paragraph 2:Filled with delight, Ali walked home quickly. He could not wait to see his sister and share the thrilling news. On his arrival, Ali found Zahra was waiting outside. She was really nervous whether her brother had brought her what she was expecting. “Zahra, see what I have got for you.” he took the prize out of his bag with his trembling hands. The instant Zahra saw the shoes, her face lit up. So thrilled was she that she threw herself at Ali. “Thank you! Ali.” Tears of joy welled up their eyes as the brother and sister hugged tightly together.
