例如:原文是wore denim overalls换成wore his clothes casually; coddling换成taking full of;weenie 换成weak; Robust 换成 strong。
What I need to do is how to make them to grow deep roots by themselves instead of being spoiled.
A篇
On a recent Wednesday, Ibarra and his colleague Sonia Fountaine, who also has a bicycle pickup route, were opening black plastic garbage bags that they'd collected and dumping their contents into a pile.

A
In some primary schools, students are often required to arrive in school one day before the start of a new semester in order to obtain new textbooks and new timetables, get to know their new teachers, and clean the classrooms.
The classrooms are dustier than usual after being left unused for nearly one month during the winter vacation, so cleaning the classrooms is necessary to protect the health of the students. And usually, taking part in the cleaning work is regarded as a good opportunity for the children to enhance their sense of responsibility as well as do their meeting and greeting outside lesson time after not seeing each other for nearly a month.
No wonder, the teachers' "invitation" was met with a cold shoulder by most parents. But still some parents felt compelled to do the job or hire someone to do it, as they simply do not want to let the teachers feel embarrassed if no one responded to the call.
In fact, the parents have every reason to turn down the teachers' request. The yes-man relations between teachers and parents are not unique to primary schools, which are more worrying than the students' absence from the traditional cleaning, as this puts the schools and parents on unequal footings, and family education, which is more important than school education to some extent, automatically gives its way to school education.
Also, an alarming phenomenon behind the scenes is the almost universal inability of adolescents to take care of themselves independently.
21. What does the underlined word “compelled” in paragraph 3 mean?
A. volunteered B. hesitated C. forced D. compromised
22. Why are some parents unwilling to refuse the teachers’ request?
A. They need a good relationship with teachers.
B. They don’t want to make the teachers angry.
C. The students’ absence from the cleaning is embarrassing.
D. The teachers need the assistance of the parents indeed.
23. What is the author’s purpose in writing the passage?
A. To introduce the first day of a new term.
B. To show various ways of cleaning the classroom.
C. To explain the reason of the parents’ non-participation.
D. To call the publics’ attention to the issue.
B
Used clothes are rather difficult to deal with. They are made from chemicals, cotton, or wool, which consume many resources in the process of manufacturing and, if burned, they pollute the air and increase the carbon pressure upon the environment. Therefore, it is a good thing for used clothes to be recycled in factories instead of being disposed of in garbage cans to be incinerated or transported to landfill sites. In that sense, the companies that put the donation boxes in communities have done something good and beneficial.
However, if they mean to recycle used clothes they need to tell people that and label their collection boxes as "recycle boxes" instead of misleading people by calling them "donation boxes". People expect their "donated" clothes to go to the poor, not factories.
People need to be more realistic as well. Donating clothes may not bring much help to the poor. Especially, as it takes a lot of human labor to collect the used clothes, sort them, clean and disinfect them and deliver them to less-developed areas. Every step costs money and sometimes the total cost might even be higher than buying new clothes in large quantities. Sometimes the poor might not need used clothing, but they cannot trade the clothes for what they do need.
It might be a sad fact, but the most effective and efficient way of helping poor people is donating money and letting them get what they need themselves. So when people want to send a helping hand, they need to donate money, instead of simply donating their used, unwanted clothes.
24. What is the first paragraph mainly about?
A. The donation boxes should be put more in communities.
B. Unwanted clothes can be recycled in donation boxes.
C. Putting donation boxes in communities is right for companies.
D. Used clothes should be recycled in factories.
25. Why cannot the boxes in communities be called “donation boxes”?
A. The poor don’t need clothing donations any longer.
B. Recycling these used clothes needs much more money.
C. Donation boxes are intended for collecting unwanted clothes.
D. The clothes in the boxes are to be recycled at last.
26. What does the author really mean by mentioning “a sad fact”?
A. The poor cannot get help from it.
B. The factories cannot benefit from it.
C. It’s not convenient for the residents.
D. It gets the communities into trouble sometimes.
27. What’s the author’s attitude towards “donation boxes in communities”?
A. Supportive B. Disapproving C. Indifferent D. Doubtful
C
Five days a week, Victor Ibarra and his friend Sandy Norse ride bicycles through North Brooklyn, collecting food waste from restaurants, coffee shops, and other small businesses and packing it into plastic tubs on a trailer(拖车)pulled by his bike. And every Sunday afternoon, neighborhood residents chopped their food waste firstly, waiting for Victor Ibarra and Sandy Norse’s arrival to collect the staff. These household waste contains more whole apples, whole tomatoes, and whole bunches of cabbages than commercial waste does, while cat litter, bones, and disposable cups, bowls and plates are not accepted.
In 2016, they even founded BK ROT, a nonprofit collecting andcomposting operation to continue their careers. At BK ROT, food waste is mixed with wood chips and sawdust(锯末), then moved, over a period of weeks, through a series of wooden bins the size of washing machines. By the time it reaches the final bin, it's black and bug-covered and unrecognizable as former food. The resulting mass, the compost, is sold in local stores or directly to individuals. "Somebody came from Staten Island yesterday and took a lot,” Norse said, “but most of it goes to nearby urban farms and community gardens.”
Some farmers and many citizens follow their examples, beginning to turn to running their farms and gardens without using any chemicals. To their delight, they feel that this makes the soil in their fields richer in minerals and so more fertile. BK Rot is becoming popular with a goal --- to grow good food and avoid damaging the environment or people’s health.
28. How is the compost made from?
A. First combined with sawdust, moved and then rots.
B. First moved, processed and then sold.
C. First collected, packed and then sent to farms.
D. First chopped, moved and then delivered to individuals.
29. What can we learn about the compost?
A. Composting operation can only be conducted by professionals.
B. Not all the household food waste can be processed into the compost.
C. The compost maybe only come from the household waste.
D. The resulting mess will be packed into a wooden bin till it rots.
30. Which of the following is the best title for the text?
A. Collecting Food Waste Attracts More People
B. Victor Ibarra and Sandy Norse Go Green
C. Food Waste Can Be Turned into Treasure
D. Farmers Will Be Blessed with the Compost

It distracts them from their academic studies and prevents them from talking with each other. That's why quite many people agree to limit the use of smartphones among pupils. That's also why Zhao's proposal got quite a wide welcome among the public.
_____34_____. This is because smartphones, if used well, do play a key role in helping the pupils get wider access to the outside world and broaden their horizon. Besides, the school might not have the power to forbid pupils from using their own properties that do not pose harm to others.
There are certain countries that limit pupils from using smartphones in class but allow them to use them after it. _____35_____. But that can offer some food for thought.
A. While walking, they hold them in their hands.
B. So a flexible ban can be considered to avoid the trouble.
C. They, just like their parents, have become enslaved by smartphones.
D. However, it remains doubtful whether a simple ban is proper.
E. Perhaps a child model for smartphones can also be introduced.
F. The actual effect remains to be seen.

Students who have used electronic cigarettes when they start ninth grade are more likely to start smoking traditional cigarettes and other combustible(可燃的) tobacco products within the next year, according to a new study funded by the National Institutes of Health.
The study surveyed students from 10 public high schools in Los Angeles with diverse backgrounds. The analysis focused on 2,530 students who initially reported never using combustible tobacco and underwent follow-up assessments after six and 12 months. After comparing tobacco use starters among 222 students who had used e-cigarettes, but not combustible tobacco products, and 2,308 who had neither used e-cigarettes or combustible tobacco products, the researchers got the data that 30.7 percent of those who had used e-cigarettes started using combustible tobacco products, such as cigarettes, andcigars, compared to only 8.1 percent of those who had never used e-cigarettes. Over the following six months leading into the start of 10th grade, 25.2 percent of e-cigarette users had used combustible tobacco products, compared to just 9.3 percent of nonusers.
NIDA Director Nora D. Volkow, M.D. said, “While teen tobacco use has fallen in recent years, this study confirms that we should continue to watch smoking patterns. Parents should recognize that although e-cigarettes might not have the same carcinogenic (致癌的) effects of regular cigarettes, they do carry a risk of addition.”
“Recreational e-cigarette use is becoming increasingly popular among teens who have never smoked tobacco,” said Adam M. Leventhal, Ph.D., the first author on the study. “While we cannot conclude that e-cigarette use directly leads to smoking, this research raises concerns that recent increases in youth e-cigarette use could eventually cause the increasing number of teens to get smoking-related illnesses."

W: Dad, will you read to me?
M: Uh, let me finish the newspaper first.
W: You’ve been saying that forever!
M: Well, how about reading the business section of the newspaper with me?
W: That’s boring. Let’s read this book. It’s about a bear and cat that become friends. And these books too.
M:I thought you said one book. There must be 10 here.
M:I see. Well, it’s bedtime right now. So, OK, here we go. Once upon a time in a deep , dark forest, there lived a brown bear...
Text 7:
W:Now, there are several questions i must ask you if you don’t mind.
M: Not at all. Go ahead.
W: What’s the purpose of your visit to the United States?
M:I’m going to attend a conference on air pollution.

M: Let me see now. Which train do i need to get on?
W: Excuse me .do you need any help?
M: Yes, I’d like to go to Tokyo Tower, but I’m really lost. This is my first visit to Japan, so i have no idea of how to get anywhere by train.
W: First, you need to buy a ticket to your destination. From here, it’s 130 yen.
M: Oh, 130 yen. Okay.
W: Then , get on the Hibiya Subway Line at platform number four.
M: Number four, alright. Oh, and how often do the trains come around this time of day?
W: Usually, they come about every six minutes or so.
M: Alright. And there do I get off the train?
W: Get off at Kamiyacho Station, three stops from here. The sigh at the station is written in English, so you’ll be able to read it.
M:Three stops. Got it. Thanks for our help.
W: No problem. Gook luck.

W:Oh, hi Dave! Long time no see!
M: Hi Maria! How have you been.
W: Oh, not bad. And you?
M: Oh, I’m doing OK, but school has been really busy these days, and I haven’t had time to relax.
W: By the way, what’s your major anyway?
M: Hotel management.
W: Well, what do you want to do once you graduate?
M:Uh...I haven’t decided for sure, but i think I’d like to work for a hotel or travel agency in this area. How about you?
W: Well, when I first started college, I wanted to major in French, but i realized I might have a hard time finding a job using the language, so I changed majors to computer science. I felt that with the right skills, finding a job in the computer industry shouldn’t be too difficult.
M: So, do you have a part-time job to support yourself through school?
W: Well, fortunately for me, I received a four-year academic scholarship that has paid for all of my tuition and books.
M: Wow. That’s great.
W: Yeah. How about you? Are you working your way through school?
M: Yeah. I work three times a week at a restaurant near campus.
W: How do you like your job?
M:It’s OK. The people who work with me are friendly, and the pay isn’t bad.
