(原创)There is a crisis in American undergraduate higher education requiring a shift away from cheating magazine rankings, unacceptable graduation rates, unfair admissions selectivity, rising costs and administrative(行政部门的)and teaching
inefficiency to a more fundamental problem: Students do not learn enough in college.
This higher learning crisis is not unique to the United States. Many countries, unlike the United States, rely on exit exams, but only recently have researchers studied institutions’ impact on learning compared to peer(同龄人)influence.
Other countries have emulated American universities because of high reput ation worldwide rankings, but such emulation may be based on scholarship and res-earch accomplishments, measured by numbers of publications and scholarly
cita-tions(引用), not undergraduate learning. Indeed, higher education globally
continues to follow a relatively passive learning tradition with full responsibilit y for learning placed on students.
The learning achievements of higher education---critical thinking, effective written and oral communication, the ability to use rather than simply acquire k nowledge to solve problems---can’t be gained in one or two required courses
or random out-of-classroom learning experiences. A required general education course in critical thinking alone cannot teach how to evaluate reliability of info
-rmation and solve problems. Teachers also must provide timely and appropriat

e feedback to students. To understanding responsibility of the teacher requires a institutional culture shift.
A college education that fails to ensure that students learn is not worth the cost at any price. High cost plus poor quality equals low value. Societies must take steps to improve the quality and quantity of learning, changing the very culture of higher education as a whole.

When kids hit puberty(青春期),their bodies and minds go through tons of changes, including the larynx, and the voice box in the throat. The larynx
is what gives you your voice. You can find your larynx by touching the fron t of your throat and humming. When you feel vibrations(震动) under your fing ers, you’ve found it!
When the larynx grows larger during puberty, it sticks out at the front of the throat. This is what’s called an Adam’s apple. Everyone’s larynx grows during puberty, but a girl’s larynx doesn’t grow as much as a boy’s does. That’s why boys have Adam’s apples. Most girls don’t have Adam’s apples, but some do.
But why is it called an Adam’s apple? If you think it’s called that after the story of the Garden of Eden where Adam ate a piece of the forbidden frui

t that got times looks like a small, rounded apple just under the skin in the fr ont of the throat.
This larger larynx also gives boys deeper voices. Actually, girls’ voices ge t a little bit deeper as their larynxes get larger, too. But because boy’s
larynxes grow so much more, it makes their voices deeper than girls’ voices.
The larynx doesn’t grow to its new size overnight, though. If you’ve ever heard a teenage boy’s voice sound squeaky(发短促尖叫声的), you’ve heard a larynx trying to get adjusted to its new size!
32.Who has Adam’s apples after puberty?

    33. What makes a person’s voice deeper? A. The size of the larynx.

    C. The larynx grows the moment a person is born.
    D. The larynx is a piece of apple stuck in the throat.
    35. What’s mainly talked about in the text? A. Where an Adam’s apple exists.
    B. What an Adam’s apple is .
