I grew up in a remte muntain twn in the Philippines. My family led a fairly idyllic life, raising gats and grwing vegetables and fruits. My brthers and I wuld play in the nearby river and muntains, reading and ding all the fun things in the nature withut wrries.
Later I went t cllege abrad, and I wuld g back abut nce a year t visit. That’s when I started t ntice changes in my hmetwn. I watched the river turn frm clear t brwn t black. Huses and farms replaced the trees. There was smg, and plastic garbage piled up. Seeing my childhd hme g frm a clean muntain twn t a defrested, plluted, and vercrwded place really impacted me. Over time, I began t see my hmetwn as a place f unsustainable develpment.
While I wrked n addressing defrestatin with the United Natins in Indnesia, I vividly remembered seeing frests burned int black landscapes as far as the eye culd see. Experiences like that have bth terrified me and lit a fire within me t wrk harder. Thankfully, I began t see that there is anther path. I saw success stries in places I wrked — Indnesia, Csta Rica, Ecuadr — places that are investing in nature and changing the culture and the mindset f what develpment lks like. I saw places realizing nt nly ecnmic benefits — frm, say, turism — but als mre benefits f ecsystem services.
The wrk f WWF and ther rganizatins is critical in prmting success stries accrding t their lcal cntext. Each cmmunity, regin, and cuntry is different, s slutins must meet their different needs. Cming frm a rural cmmunity in a develping cuntry gave me a clear utlk n addressing eclgy and sustainability issues and is smething I carry with me in my wrk.

There are tw kinds f peple: thse wh like t pack up leftvers as sn as dinner is ver, and thse wh let leftvers sit ut fr a few hurs s they can cl dwn.
Hwever, bth leaving leftvers ut fr a lng perid f time and adding ht items t the fridge can cause prblems.
Whether yu shuld immediately put fd in the fridge r let it sit ut t cl depends n its temperature. Dangerus bacterial (细菌的) grwth happens between 41 and 135 degrees F. Ptentially harmful bacteria grw mst rapidly at these temperatures.
Placing lts f ht fd in the fridge can raise the temperature f the fridge int this danger zne. Fridge temperatures shuld always be set belw 40 degrees F. This may help the fd get ut f the danger zne as fast as pssible.
Hwever, there’s n harm in putting ht fd directly int the fridge if yu need t. If yu are a frgetful persn, r if yu wn’t be arund t stre the fd after it has cled enugh, g ahead and put it in the fridge. Yur fridge can handle the heat and get the fd cled quickly.
Fd shuld never stay ut at rm temperature fr mre than tw hurs. Leftvers can becme breeding grunds (滋生地) fr dangerus bacteria if they’re left ut t lng and can make peple sick.
"It is OK t leave the fd cling utside befre yu hit the tw-hur mark," says Serena Pn, nutritinist f Le Crdn Bleu’s Grand Diplma training prgram. "In fact, the sner yu can get yur leftvers in the fridge, the better."
    28. Which temperature mst cntributes t the grwth f harmful bacteria?

    B.Between 39~40 degrees F.
    C.Between 41~135 degrees F.

    A.Unclear.

    30. What des Serena Pn suggest ding abut the leftvers?
    A.Dividing them int small parts.

C.Waiting until they cl dwn cmpletely utside.

C.T Cl Fd Outside r in the Fridge

Climate change is a big prblem fr crals. I dive t find ut. By keeping track f crals in French Plynesia, I hpe t determine hw much stress they’re under.
Cral reefs are like underwater cities made up f tiny animals called crals. They are in symbisis with tiny plants called algae (海藻). The algae make fd fr the crals using sunlight. This is called phtsynthesis (光合作用). In return, crals prduce carbn dixide and waste, which can be used by the algae as raw materials fr phtsynthesis.
In French Plynesia, there’s a place called Mrea where scientists study crals. My clleagues and I use special flating platfrms t lk at the crals frm different angles. This helps us find prblems, like when ther plants try t take ver.
Tw types f cral, Acrpra pulchra and Acrpra cytherea, are being studied. The pulchra stays its usual dark yellw clr, but the cytherea, which is usually light brwn r purple, has turned white. This white clr is nt gd. It happens when the water gets t warm fr t lng. The crals get stressed and push ut the algae. Withut the algae, the crals can’t get fd and they turn white, which can lead t them dying.
When my clleagues and I g diving, we use a plastic sheet t help us lk at the crals and write dwn what we see. We check the water temperature, the clr f the crals, and if we see any signs f the crals being in truble.
Sme crals seem t be strnger and can handle warmer water better than thers. We want t find ut why this is, s we can help prtect crals. But the best way t help crals is t stp pllutin and glbal warming, which are making the ceans t warm fr them.
    32. Why des the authr keep track f crals?
    A.He lves sea animals.
    B.He is crazy abut crals.
C.He wants t study the survival cnditin f crals.
    D.He wants t be free f stress.
    33. What des the underlined wrd "symbisis" in paragraph 2 refer t?
    A.Cmpetitin fr resurces.
    B.Living tgether in harmny.
    C.In supprt f the develpment.
    D.Imprvement withut prviding benefit.
    34. What will happen when the water temperature rises abve nrmal?
A.The crals will lse the surce f fd.
B.The cral will stay its purple clr.
C.Tw kinds f cral will turn white.
    D.Sme crals will becme strnger.
    35. What is the key t prtecting crals in the authr’s pinin?
    A.Prtecting mre sea plants.
B.Putting mre effrt int cral research.
C.Reducing pllutin and stpping glbal warming.
D.Figuring ut the relatinship between crals and algae.
