Last Saturday, I started an adventure that I wuld never frget. It all started when I brrwed a bk frm the library titled“Mysteries f the Ancient Wrld.” The bk was fascinating, filled with tales f lst cities and frgtten civilizatins. Hwever, in my excitement t dig int the mysteries, I made a terrible mistake——I lst the bk.
The librarian, Mrs. Thmpsn, was knwn fr her strict rules. Lsing a library bk meant mre than a fine; it meant a temprary ban(临时禁令) frm the library. Panicked (惊慌失措),I decided t retrace my steps and find the bk befre the week ended.I began my search at the park where I last remembered reading. The sun was setting, casting a glden glw n the grassy fields. I searched every bench, every crner, but the bk was nwhere t be fund. As the park emptied, I felt a sinking feeling in my stmach.
Determined, I mved n t the next place I had visited —— a small café dwntwn. The smell f fresh cffee filled the air as I explained my truble t the barista (咖啡师). She was kind and allwed me t lk arund, but the bk was nt amng the czy nks and crannies.
Tired but nt defeated,I returned hme and thught abut the last place I culd have left the bk: the bus. I remembered reading it n my way t schl. With a glimmer f hpe, I called the bus cmpany and explained the situatin. T my surprise, they checked their lst and fund immediately.
The next day, I received a call that the bk had been fund. Excitement washed ver me as I rushed t the bus statin t recver it. The bus driver, Mr. Jenkins; handed me the bk with a smile, saying, “It's always an adventure, isn't it?”
I returned the bk t the library, and Mrs. Thmpsn, thugh strict, seemed pleased that I had fund it. She warned me abut being mre careful but allwed me t cntinue brrwing bks. The adventure taught me the imprtance f respnsibility and the jy f slving a mysterv.
Frm that day n, I became mre cautius with mv belngings, and my lve fr mysteries nly grew. The lst library bk adventure will frever be a stry I share with pride.

Many f us start exercising in the hpe f lsing unwanted punds. Unquestinably, aiming t be mre active is a gd thing. But if the main reasn is t lse weight, yur reslutin culd very well-cme t nthing.
Fr starters, exercise is typically futile fr weight lss. Take walking fr example. A150-pund persn wh walks fr 30 minutes will burn, n average, arund 140 calries. That's equal t ne can f sda —— nt exactly a great return n yur investment f time and effrt. It's much easier just t skip the sda.
When exercise is added t a diet, the results are equally unimpressive. Researchers fund that a cmbinatin f dieting and exercising prduced n greater weight lss than dieting alne after six mnths. At 12 mnths, the diet-and-exercise cmbinatin shwed an advanced, but it was slight —— abut 4 punds n average.
In studies where exercise has prduced meaningful weight lss, participants burned at least400 t 500 calries per sessin n five r mre days a week. T achieve that, a 150-pund persn wuld need t walk a minimum f 90 minutes r run 30 minutes per day. In shrt, sessins need t g well beynd what mst f us are willing r able t d. And even if we manage t make that much effrt, ur bdies ften cmpensate(弥补) by bsting desire fr fd and slwing dwn metablism (新陈代谢), which ver time limit hw many punds we lse.
When exercise fails t meet ur weight-lss expectatins, we ften stp wrking ut. Perhaps the biggest prblem with exercising t drp punds is that it turns physical activity int punishment —— a price we have t pay fr a slimmer bdy. Hw many times have yu heard smene say“T’ ll need t d extra exercise” after eating t much? We treat exercise as a frm f self-punishment fr being“bad”. In this case, we' re unlikely t keep ding it fr very lng. The cnclusin is that we' re mre likely t treat exercise psitively and actually d it when we fcus n ur well-being rather than ur weight.
    28. What des the underlined wrd“futile” in paragraph 2 mean?
    A. Necessary. B. Fruitless.
    C. Basic. D. Painful.
    29. What happens when yu run 30 minutes n a daily basis?
    A. Yu might eat mre than usual.
    B. Yu will burn 500 calries a week.
    C. Yu might have a higher metablic rate.
    D. Yu will lse abut 4 punds per mnth.
    30. Cmpared with dieting alne, what can we learn abut the cmbinatin f dieting and exercising?
    A. It's less effective than dieting alne.
    B. It's much mre usfil within six mnths.
    C. It shws little advantage after six mnths.
    D. It displays an impressive advantage after a year.
    31. Hw can we keep exercising?
    A. By lwering ur expectatins.
    B. By fcusing less n ur weight.
    C. By sticking t ur exercise rutine.
    D. By paying mre attentin t ur well-being.
Scientists frm the Hefei Institutes f Physical Science (HIPS) under the Chinese Academy f Sciences have designed a wristwatch that can measure essential chemicals in bdy sweat. Their findings were published in the jurnal ACS Nan.
. Sweat cntains electrlytes(电解质), mainly ptassium, sdium and calcium. The balance f these minerals is crucial fr supprting muscle functin, nerve health and regular heartbeat. The wristwatch cllects sweat frm the skin and analyzes it in real time using a sensr chip with sensitive membrane (膜). When sweat enters the device, it will cme int cntact with the membrane that cntains three tubes capable f measuring sdium, ptassium and calcium levels.
Althugh they are nt the first t invent sweat sensrs, the Chinese researchers highlighted the wrist watch's slid interface fr lng-term reliability. “It surpasses the stability f many ther sensrs by cntinuusly mnitring human sweat fr ver six mnths,” said the lead researcher Huang Xingjiu.
Since athletes use electrlyte drinks t cunteract (抵制) the lss f energy and refill it, researchers in the study measured the sweat cmpsitin f these chemicals in athletes running lng distances. The accuracy reached abut 95 percent when cmpared t the standard detectin methd.
Fr rdinary peple, the traditinal electrlyte test requires samples f bdy fluids taken in hspitals. The new wristwatch has the ptential t serve as a new ptin instead f ging t hspitals.
The next gal f the research team is t design varius sensitive membrane materials fr mnitring mre infrmatin. The researchers nted that cmpared t ppular fitness watches n the market, the device they designed is larger and heavier, making it less cmfrtable t wear. Hwever, they expect t develp wearable sweat sensrs suitable fr market applicatins in the next five years. The team f researchers als aims t adapt the device fr envirnmental mnitring.
    32. What is Paragraph 2 mainly abut?
    A. What sweat cntains. B. Hw the wristwatch wrks.
    C. What a sensr chip is. D. Why minerals are imprtant.
    33. Which f the fllwing is the advantage f the wristwatch?
    A. Accurate and large. B. Ppular and riginal.
    C. Cnvenient and reliable. D. Functinal and cmfrtable.
3-. Nhat is implied in the last paragraph?
    A. The wristwatch hasn't cme nt the market yet.
    B. The wristwatch will replace ther fitness watches.
    C. The device has been used t mnitr envirnment.
    D. Its material makes the device uncmfrtable t wear.
    35. What can be a suitable title fr the text?
    A. An Innvative Device t Mnitr Envirnment
    B. New Ways t Measure Chemicals in Our Bdies
    C. Electrlytes that Are Essential t Mnitring Health
    D. A Wristwatch fr Health Mnitring Thrugh Sweat
