I designed a prgram arund the cncepts f cmfrt and stretch znes. On day ne, I set up a range f equipment fr different sprts acrss a field. In grups, students discussed sprts that they felt cmfrtable and safe playing. They then tk turns selecting their cmfrt sprt n the field, ding a brief share, and playing with their grup. Afterward, we had a class discussin n the imprtance f ding things that bring jy and passin, and hw sharing that passin with thers mtivates us and the peple arund us.
On day tw, with the same field design and sprting equipment, I intrduced the idea f stretch znes. Students frmed the same grups as n day ne and discussed which sprts were ut f their cmfrt zne and mre challenging t them. Sme f my students were shy and thers slightly frustrated (沮丧) as they struggled t perfrm the skills in sprts in which they were nt cmfrtable. Then we discussed, as a class, hw even when smething is challenging, if we recgnize the difficulty and intentinally practice, we give urselves the pprtunity t vercme it ver time.
The prgram required mre than just adjusting my curriculum (课程)—it als meant sme changes t the way I taught. I fund myself pening up t my students and sharing my wn hardships and successes with them. As a result, my students felt freer t be their real selves.

Adults are ften ashamed t ask fr help. Seeking smene’s help can make yu feel like yu are bradcasting yur inability. New research suggests yung children dn’t seek help in schl fr the same reasn.
Kayla Gd, a graduate student at Stanfrd University, and Alex Shaw, an assciate prfessr f psychlgy at the University f Chicag, applied a classic technique t learn mre abut hw children think abut reputatin: Acrss several studies, they asked 576 children aged fur t nine, t predict the behavir f tw characters, Tm and Jack, in a stry. Tm really wanted t be smart, and Jack nly wanted t seem smart t thers. In ne study, they tld children bth characters did prly n a test, and asked which f them wuld be mre likely t raise their hands in frnt f their class t ask the teacher fr help.
The fur-year-lds were equally likely t chse either f the tw characters as the ne wh wuld seek help. But by age seven r eight, children thught Jack wuld be less likely t ask fr help. And children's expectatins were truly “reputatinal” in nature—they were specially thinking abut hw the characters wuld act in frnt f peers. They culd still imagine situatins where Jack wuld seek help: when it culd be sught privately (n a cmputer rather than in persn), children thught bth characters were equally likely t ask fr it.
Given the findings, it seems quite pssible that when children themselves are the nes struggling, they, t, might avid seeking ut help if they are cncerned abut reputatin. If s, the unwillingness t seek help when thers are present culd clearly impede learning prgress. T imprve in any field, ne must wrk hard, take n challenging tasks, and ask questins. Hwever, the situatin can be difficult when smene is cncerned abut their impressins n thers.
    28. What were the children asked t predict abut the tw characters?
    A. Their likeliness t get help.
    B. Their pssibility f seeking help.
    C. Their perfrmance in a test.
    D. Their understanding f reputatin.
    29. Wh was likely t seek private aid accrding t the eight-year-lds?
    A. Tm.B. Jack. C. Neither.D. Bth.
    30. What des the underlined wrd “impede” in paragraph 4 prbably mean?
    A. Prevent B. Secure.
    C. Advance. D. Recver.

We expected that mre and mre f these genetic diseases will be treatable.” Als, the fact is that mre than 60 percent f eye prblems at birth are nes resulting frm the baby’s parents!
Thanks t data frm the Internatinal Muse Phentyping Cnsrtium (IMPC), which is trying t wrk ut what every single gene in a muse is respnsible fr, with the aim f translating it t humans, scientists are mving clser t figuring ut all genetic causes f blindness. T d this, scientists separate a single gene frm ther nes at a time and then bserve what effect it has n the muse fr a lng time. This has s far been dne mre than 7,000 times and has achieved great success. Researchers are nw wrking alngside eye care centers in Texas and Iwa in rder t cmpare the mice's genes t thse f patients.
