What Is Yur Pet Trying t Tell Yu
Animals want ur attentin, and smetimes they’re quite bviusly abut asking fr it. Unusual behavirs are ften ur pets’ way f telling us t stp what we’re ding and play with them. It’s why Fid cnstantly chases his tail and why Kitty keeps rlling arund. A desperately bred pet may have “bad” behavirs t get a reactin— even a negative ne!
Feed me.
Sure, yur dg lves yu, but that’s nt why he’s licking(舔)yur face. A puppy learns t lick his mther’s muth t get a little leftver fd. S the puppy isn’t kissing yu; he just wants a snack.

Cat wners als misinterpret their furry friends’ kisses. While a cat might lick yu t shw lve, smetimes she’ll d it t ease herself. My tail tells all.
Dgs wag(摇)their tails t the right when they see smething r smene they want t apprach, and t the left when they see smething they want t avid. When frightened, dgs curl their tails in, while cats wrap theirs arund themselves. And if a cat’s tail lks like a questin mark, she’s eager t play.

Did yu knw that the average American child aged between 8 and 12 spends fur hurs a day n screens? That wrks ut t ver 1,200 hurs a year. While sme f this screen time may serve a scial r educatinal purpse, there’s n way that mst kids need that much f it. We als knw that t much screen time damages ur mental and physical health. Kids are suffering frm being sedentary (久坐的)and nline fr t lng.
Starting in 2011, Ginny Yurich, a mther f five kids, urges her family t spend at least 1,000 hurs utside every year. A year later, Yurich calculated that her kids had spent as much time utdrs as mst American kids spend nline. This, cmbined with the real benefits her family was experiencing, is the driving frce in the creatin f 1000 Hurs Ouside, Yurich’s website that challenges ther families t d the same. She advises using a physical tracking sheet t see the prgress.
“Often, nature play is an activity that gets ur leftver time. Usually, if there’s nthing else t d, we play utside. That single tracking sheet, with all thse spaces t fill in, keeps the utdrs at the frefrnt f ur minds and reminds us that it is a wrthy activity chice.” When asked whether it was anther burden n their schedule, Yurich disagreed. “Sme peple may wrry that a lt f time utdrs culd have a negative influence n children’s grades. Actually, any time I spend utside has helped me be a better mther and a mre relaxed persn. Fr my children, nature play has helped them scially, emtinally, and physically. There is nt ne ther activity ut there that gives yu mre bang fr yur buck(美元)— and ften it desn’t even cst a buck!”
Yurich, wh estimates that ver 100,000 families wrldwide have participated in her challenge s far, hears frm numerus peple whse lives have imprved as a direct result f it. They share jyful phts and describe special mments they wuld have therwise missed. This reflects exactly what Yurich has learned herself — everyne is grwing when we cnsistently include nature time in ur lives.
24. What’s the functin f the first paragraph?
A. T aruse kids’ interest. B. T reveal a phenmenn.
C. T put frward a questin. D. T stress American parents’ cncern.
25. Why did Ginny Yurich create 1000 Hurs Outside?
A. T remind herself f her ambitin.
B. T pst her family’s life experiences.
C. T track her children’s utdr activities.
D. T urge mre families t get clse t nature.
26. Which f the fllwing will Yurich agree with?
A. Nature play csts nthing and benefits us greatly.
B. Nature play is better t be dne in ur spare time.
C Nature play shuld give way t children’s studies.
D. Nature play is smetimes a burden n ur schedule.
27. What can yu infer frm the last paragraph?

With everything else that technlgy can d fr us tday, it’s prbably nt that shcking that AI(artificial intelligence)can search the Internet and varius databases fr facts and reprt back n its findings. But what abut writing a cherent(连贯的)— perhaps even entertainment-fictinal stry?
T cnfirm it, I tried t use an AI writing machine t write a stry as yu can see frm the sample belw, which it created after I entered the first tw sentences in italics(斜体):
Sarah began driving, even thugh she had n idea where she was ging. The night was cld, and within minutes the first raindrps began t appear n her windscreen. She drve fr tw hurs until she was back in dwntwn Ottawa. She walked ut int the street, crying. I was shaking in my bts. I asked fr a lift t the airprt. As sn as I sat in the car, the rain started. Pam’s insurance representative picked us up in the late afternn and we were back in Edmntn in time fr lunch.
The tw sentences fllwing my input are actually quite satisfying, but then the pint f view suddenly jumps t the first persn, and the events in every new sentence seem t be jumping arund in time illgically. And wh’s Pam, anyway?
Hwever, as the article by Techpedia explains, true writing is driven by a purpse: t infrm, entertain and persuade the readers, r perhaps a cmbinatin f these. And while the newest technlgy might be able t write clear, cherent sentences withut a grammatical errr in sight, its purpse is t match its surrundings, nt t create truly riginal ideas.
Given these shrtcmings, we can cnclude that AI isn’t ready t write like Hemingway, but that desn’t mean it can’t be useful t writers. Fr example, if yu’re suffering frm bttlenecks, feeding Ala few lines f whatever yu’ve gt s far culd give yu a fresh pint f view, and even enlighten yu n sme new ideas abut where t take yur stry. Rather than leading us t sme future with n writers r creativity, this culd actually d a lt t help writers create mre.
28. Hw did the authr answer his questin abut AI in paragraph 1?
A. By ding a test n AI.
B. By referring t related papers.
C. By cnducting a survey f writers.
D. By adpting the methd f writing an essay.
29. What d we knw abut AI’s writing frm the text?

B. It has an apprpriate pint f view.
C. It features a serius and frmal frm.
D. It ften cntains grammatical mistakes.
30. What’s the authr’s suggestin n AI’s writing?
A. Use it t plish the riginal article.
B. Rely n it t create gd stries.
C. Apply it in nn-literary writing.
D. Regard it as an inspiratin.
31. What wuld be the best title fr the text?
A. Hw Can Writers Make Use Of AI?

While hydrpnic farms(grwing plants in water), als knwn as “vertical(垂直的)farms”, exchange land use fr electricity use, ne prject is trying t take the best f bth wrlds.
Using nly natural light fr phtsynthesis(光合作用)and heat, Shckingly Fresh’s greenhuse in Offenham, England, can prduce fur-times the utput cmpared with regular farming, while using much less energy than ther vertical farms. While ther prducers might say that Shckingly Fresh’s use f natural light means they can’t keep up the 24-7 prductin typical f farms that can leave the lights n all night, the cmpany stresses that they match the cnsumptin patterns f humans and use far less energy in the prcess. “Prductin isn’t cmpletely linear even thugh it wuld be in a fully-lit vertical farm, but peple dn’t eat as much lettuce in winter as they d in summer,” he explained.
Offenham was cmpleted in 2021, and is already prducing lettuce and bk chy fr sale at supermarkets, with strawberries planned fr winter when the days becme shrter. Even thugh Green thinks they can prduce 2 millin heads f lettuce per year, the lcatin is just ne- tenth f the size f future prjects.
Offenham cvers 3 acres. The Lngfrd Vertical Farm, currently in the planning phase, will cver 32. Situated in between Glasgw and Edinburgh, with gd access t majr rads, Lngfrd will include rainwater catching systems t aid with cutting energy csts, and native landscaping arund the frmer mining area.
Hydrpnics is allwing cities t have access t fresh prduce much nearer t their high-rises. Fr example, a 51-stry “farmscraper” is cvered in hydrpnic farms that grw fd fr thse wh live within, in Shenzhen, China. They’re als appearing n rftps, like in Mntreal, which will prvide 2% f all fd cnsumed in the Canadian metrplis.
B2. Why d plants f Shckingly Fresh have a higher utput than ther vertical farms?
A. They are expsed t a natural envirnment fr grwth.
B. They are saved frm the harm f man-made light.
C. They are ffered a better phtsynthesis system.
D. They are prvided with mre heat and light.
33. What des the underlined wrd “linear” mean in paragraph 3?
A. Seasnal. B. Harmnius. C. Reasnable. D. Cntinuus.
34. What can we knw abut the Lngfrd Vertical Farm?
A. It is linked t highly advanced transprtatin systems.
B. Its prductin cunts largely n its surrundings.
C. It has a grand plan fr future develpment.
D. Its energy saving system is wrld-famus.
35. What’s the benefit f hydrpnics t cities?
A. Helping t strengthen the rftps.
B. Giving a greener city envirnment.
C. Creating beautiful natural scenery fr cities.
D. Making fresh prduce available mre cnveniently.
