I was brn missing my left arm. In 1986, at 18 mnths, I was fitted with a prsthetic (义肢) device, a decisin made by my parents and dctrs s that I wuld develp “nrmally”.
I spent my entire childhd and adlescence trying t fit in. I did just abut anything t ease the pains f the stares and pinting fingers frm my classmates. By the time I was 8, I had n self-cnfidence, and the hand I was wearing was making it harder fr me t fit in. S I decided I was better ff withut ne. I didn’t need anyne t fix me.
T prve that I wasn’t limited by my disability, I develped a lve fr all sprts, in particular swimming. I was selected t my first Australian wmen’s swimming team at age 13 and successfully represented my cuntry fr eight years. I realized I’d made a name fr myself because f my disability.

While I was busy advcating fr disability rights, a new generatin f leaders, like Amy Purdy and Nick Vujicic, used the pwer f technlgy and scial media t display wheelchairs r artificial limbs withut explanatin. Peple feared disability less. Sciety was beginning t see a persn first, and their disability secnd.
Viewing disability thrugh a scial lens als meant acknwledging (承认) that a persn is mre disabled by their envirnment and the discriminatin (歧视) f thers than by their actual disability. As thse cnversatins shifted, I realized that there was an pprtunity t use technlgy t change the future generatins’ view n disability. In July 2022, I decided t trial the hand.
The rle f patient advcate is a huge hnr. Thrugh sharing my jurney, I’m able t reach thusands f ther peple wh wuld benefit frm its extrardinary capabilities (能力). That’s why I wear a binic hand — nt because I’m brken, but because I have an pprtunity t increase the human capabilities that already exist.

If yur phne needs a sftware upgrade, yu wuld likely run the installatins (安装)when it’s fully charged. Otherwise, yur phne and its sftware wuld nt wrk prperly. A new study finds human energy systems perate in a similar fashin: Our metablisms (新陈代谢) likely wrk best in the mrning when ur bdies are fresh and fully charged.
The research, based n a seven-year dietary analysis f 50,000 adults, fund that bdy weight, measured by BMI (bdy mass index), is related t when we eat and hw ften we eat.
Specifically, peple wh eat larger breakfasts and adpt an 18-hur vernight fast (禁食), say frm 1 pm t 7 am, have the lwest bdy weights. Thse wh ate mre than three meals, r three meals plus snacks, had higher BMIs.

The authr als finds meals eaten in the evening, cmpared t thse eaten in the mrning, result in a hypglycemic respnse (血糖升高), r raised bld sugar, which happens when insulin (胰岛素) can’t deal with glucse (葡萄糖) int energy. Like a clg (阻塞) in a machine, extra glucse slws ur bdies’ metablic prcess dwn. Depending n yur gals and health situatin, yu may cnsider taking mre calries in the mrning when insulin wrk is mst efficient.
S, let’s say yu take 1,500 t 1,800 calries a day. Instead f splitting 500 t 600 calries evenly (均等的) at each meal, yu culd experiment with eating 600 t 700 calries fr breakfast, 600 t 700 calries fr lunch and a light 300-t 400-calrie dinner. If yu’re lking t lse 10 punds r change the early stages f Type 2 diabetes (糖尿病) cmpletely, the 18-t 19-hur vernight fast might wrk well fr yu. This culd mean eating a larger breakfast, a medium-sized lunch and n dinner at all.
46. What is the new study based n?
A. A dietary analysis.B. An experiment in the lab.
C. A survey n children.D. A famus newspaper.
47. What kind f eating pattern is cnnected with the lwest bdy weight?
A. Eating mre than three meals a day.B. Having the largest meal at dinner.
C. Eating a large breakfast and fasting vernight.D. Having snacks thrughut the day.
48. What happens when we eat in the evening?
A. Our metablisms speed up.B. We have a hypglycemic respnse.
C. Our bdies burn calries mre efficiently.D. We have an high bld sugar level.
49. Hw can we rearrange ur meals fr better results?
A. Take in mre calries at dinner.B. Split calries evenly amng all meals.
C. Take in mre calries in the mrning.D. Skip breakfast and have a big lunch.
50. What is the best title fr this article?
A. Can Skipping dinner help yu lse weight?
B. Hw t lse weight r reverse early Type 2 diabetes?
C. Hw t cntrl the nrmal bld sugar level?
D. Can exercising a lt make yur bdy fully charged?
