Climate change is the stry f tday's yung peple's lives. But Milks says, “Our students need t knw nt just the stuff we hear abut in the news, but als the actual difference we can make in ur shared future.” S, she teaches in such an innvative way.
Creativity is at the cre f her lessn. After students learn the basics f climate engineering, which cvers a range f strategies, including reflecting sunlight back int space and remving carbn dixide frm the atmsphere, they're asked t “cme up with interesting wild ideas" t slw glbal warming. In the first rund f brainstrming, students imagined lts f ways t reflect light back int the atmsphere, like cvering the desert in shiny glitter(发光物). Next, students are asked t cnsider the ptential limitatins and risks t their ideas. Take glitter in the desert, fr example: “Hw are we ging t make sure that the glitter desn't get eaten by the rck pcket muse r snakes?” Milks asks. The student suggests making the glitter large and smth enugh s it wn't be eaten by animals r therwise harm them. Fr their final assignment, students present their cncepts, including their anticipated benefits and risks.
Ben Kravitz, an assistant prfessr at Indiana University, wh carefully watch the whle lessn, says, “The neat thing abut seeing all f these ideas cme ut f the classrm is it's nt I can’t d it. It's we can d it. Humans, when they get tgether, can d amazing things. And that's what gives me hpe.

The cean feels bundless. If yu were t start swimming frm shre, it's easy t believe-fitness and xygen aside yu culd cntinue frever. That's a far different experience t verland travel, where muntains, rivers, and highways jammed with traffic prevents easy passage. It's equally easy t believe that fish and ther highly mbile sea creatures experience the cean in such a fashin. These animals, adapted ver thusands f years t navigate the cean, must easily bypass (统过) any barrier arund which they can theretically swim. That assumptin, thugh, is wrng.
It's cmmn fr many ceanic species t stick t specific habitats and nly seldm swim beynd them. That is especially true fr many immature animals, which are small and easy t fall victim t predatrs. This, hwever, can cause unexpectedly big prblems fr ceanic species, especially when infrastructure (基础设施) gets in the way.
Take, fr example, the green sawfish living near the muth f the Ashburtn River in the Pilbara regin f Western Australia. In 2017,engineers wrking n a lcal il and gas prcessing plant built a new lading facility cnsisting f a large piling jetty(码头)and slid rck wall, which stretched 500 meters ffshre. Later, scientists realized that the green sawfish were unable, r unwilling, t pass arund the barrier. But that culd prevent the animals frm reaching valuable feeding grunds and ther habitats.
This discvery leads t a surprising new idea: that sea animals, much like land species need a helping hand getting arund human infrastructure. In the case f the green sawfish, engineers culd have created underpasses in the jetty thrugh which the fish culd swim.
As the climate cntinues t change, many sea species are mving farther nrth and they need suitable habitats t mve thrugh. Whether creating pass-thrughs in artificial structures r pltting rutes away frm warming ceans, thughtfully designing ur infrastructure culd g a lng way tward prtecting animals as we cntinue t engineer the cean.
28. What is the misunderstanding mentined in the first paragraph?
A. Sea creatures adapt t the cean slwly B. The cean presents n barriers t sea life
C. Humans are inherently skilled at sea navigatin D. Sea travel guarantees easier passage than land travel.
29. What des the underlined wrd “this” in paragraph 2 refer t?
A. The impact f human-made structures. B. The risk f being hunted by predatrs.
C. The behavir f mature ceanic animals. D. The tendency t stay in familiar habitats.
30. Why are the green sawfish mentined in the passage?
A. T illustrate a pint. B. T present a phenmenn
C. T put frward a new argument. D. T add sme backgrund infrmatin.
31. What des the authr suggest abut engineering the cean?
A. Maximizing ecnmic benefits B. Priritizing human infrastructures
C. Creating underpasses fr surfers D. Accmmdating ceanic species’ needs
D
Are yu eyebrw blind? TikTk users seem t think s-many have cmplained n the platfrm abut makeup wearers’ apparent inability t spt whether they're blindly fllwing makeup trends r wearing what lks gd n their faces. Thugh “eyebrw blindness” and ther types f “beauty blindness" aren’t exactly cnsidered mental health truble. peple's tendency t fllw trends-even when they lk silly r take risks ding s-is definitely a real phenmenn.

Multiple psychlgical framewrks argue that human cnnectins are as imprtant as basics like access t fd and shelter because humans evlved(进化)t rely n ne anther fr survival.
But why d trends themselves have such a pull? "Our brains are hardwired t ntice what’s unusual," Rutledge says. Thus, we ntice utliers and attentin-grabbers, making trends even mre appealing fr thse bld enugh t fllw them.
N ne is exempt frm fllwing crazes, nticing trends, r signaling their real belnging t scial grups. But ne grup in particular is even easier t fllw trends-even risky nes: Tweens, teens, and yung adults. As children start the rad tward adult independence, they lk fr ways t express their individuality. This can prduce smetimes desperate attempts t prve affiliatin(隶属关系) with scially credible in-grups and can fuel desire t stand ut with the help f trends.
S, next time yu put n makeup-r get dressed, rder a meal in public, r purchase a vehicle-cnsider that yur decisin may nt be as persnalized as yu may think. "it's really just an inbrn respnse, ne that can be explained by ur need t fit in with r stand ut frm the crwd." says Rutledge.
32.Accrding t the first paragraph, a beauty blind persn might
A. ppse makeup trends publicly B. fllw makeup trends uncritically
C. rely n scial media fr makeup advice D. take risks with untested beauty prducts
33. What's a primary mtivatin f trend fllwing?
A. Financial prfit. B. Scial cnnectin. C. Artistic expressin. D. Character weakness.
34. Which can best replace the underlined wrds “exempt frm” in paragraph 4?
A. Free f. B. Subject t. C. Expsed t. D. Cncerned abut.
35. What might Rutledge think f trend fllwing?
A. It's a persnalized chice. B. It mirrrs peple's mental health
C. It results frm lack f self-cnfidence. D. It's a natural respnse t scial signals
