    The main purpse f argumentative writing is t express the writer’s attitude and views t sme phenmenn r sme events.An argumentative essay is t attempt t change the reader’s mind, t cnvince the readers t agree with the pint f view r pinin f the writer.

    1. The Thesis The thesis is a key sentence that express the main idea f the writer; it shws the writer’s attitude twards the tpic.
    A basic and general argumentative essay utline wuld cnsist f the thesis, the arguments and the cnclusin.

    2. The Arguments The arguments shws the prs and cns f the fcused tpic in a lgical way. It may talk abut the advantages r disadvantages f ne thing, fr everything has tw sides.
    3. The Cnclusin The cnclusin displays / highlights again the writer’s pint f view and ends the whle essay in a decent way.
    As t make ur essays mre cherent and smth, we can als use sme transitinal wrds r phrases.Linking wrds: Firstly... Besides ... Als ... In additin ... What's mre ... At the same time ... On the ne hand ... , n the ther hand ...
    Guided Writing
    Last summer, Chen watched a French film and was attracted by the French language and culture. This made him eager t learn French. Hwever, n French curse was ffered at his schl. Chen was disappinted and wndered why English was the nly freign language taught at his schl. S Chen decides t write a letter t his headmaster t persuade him t ffer a French curse at schl.
    Let’s help him cmplete the argumentative letter.
    Wrk in grups. Discuss whether there shuld be an additinal freign language curse fr high schl students. Write dwn pinins f each grup member.(bth the psitive and negative ideas)
    Chse the strngest claim and cunterclaim frm yur ntes.
    A claim is a statement that smething is true r is a fact, althugh ther peple might nt believe it. A cunterclaim is a statement that smene makes in respnse t a different statement made by smene else.
    Write a persuasive letter t the headmaster in 100–120 wrds. Use claim(s) and cunterclaim(s).
    Dear Sir/ Madam, I am writing sincerely t yu fr the ffer f a French curse at schl. And I firmly believe that learning anther freign language, like French, wuld d gd t many f the students.
    Many peple agree that France is a very beautiful cuntry. S d its culture and language. By learning French, ur schlmates can feel and express thse beauties. What’s mre, learning a new language, besides English, can als braden ur minds. By the way, I learned that bth English and French are frm the same linguistic rt, s maybe it will assist the learning f English, t.
    Of curse, sme f the students may say that we’ve already learned English, and t sme extent, it’s nt easy t master, nt t mentin the cmplex French. Hwever, I have t say that ‘Interest is the best teacher’, t the students wh are keen n French, it wn’t be an bstacle. This French curse can be an ptinal ne; when it’s nt a cmpulsry, it wn’t disturb ther peers.
