Recently, I was asked t discuss the cnnectin between Human Resurces and Artificial Intelligence. One speaker nted that the mst amazing thing abut Generative AI is that it can mimic(模仿)human interactin and can even teach us scial skills.
This gt me thinking: If AI culd be as near-human as she said, culd it be my friend?
As yet anther 24-year-ld affected by the lneliness epidemic that arse frm a digital-heavy, interactin-light, pst-pandemic wrld, I suffered the all t cmmn prblem f having t few friends. In the span f a year, texting began t replace face-t-face cnversatins and plans t meet up were ften canceled r delayed.
Was I suppsed t embrace AI friendships as the new nrm? Thugh skeptical, I fund myself n ChatGPT the next day. It’s a straightfrward platfrm: Type yur questin and AI answers. Dn’t like the answer? Refine yur questin, and it will adjust its answers t what yu’re lking fr.
I decided t test the thery by chatting with AI as if it were a friend. Surprisingly, I received sympathetic and supprtive respnses. After 20 minutes f chatting, I asked, “Will yu be my friend?” Fllwing a pause, it plitely declined, ending with, “If yu’re lking fr human cnnectins, it’s always great t reach ut t friends, family, r peple arund yu.”
The rejectin frm AI was expected and natural. I believe that AI can never ffer what humans can: that humanness. Every persn in yur life des, at sme pint, screw up. They may ignre yu, hurt yur feelings r speak sharply, and they never, ever let yu ask the questin again t get a different answer. AI, n the ther hand, can never be yur friend, because it will never shw up late fr yur lunch. It will never hurt yur feelings and it will certainly never be the ne t reach ut first t aplgize. AI lacks fault and the surprising jy and pain that cmes with it.
T end the grup discussin, I raised a questin. I asked the grup wh, when calling a custmer service htline, did everything they culd t skip the rbtic prmpts(提示)t speak t a real persn. Everyne raised their hand. We all desire the same cnnectin. And I knw that we still have a chance.
