Natural selectin is the prcess by which ne type f animal within a species thrives because f certain qualities that make it mre likely t live than thers in its grup. The histry f the peppered mth (灰蛾) is an example f the natural selectin prcess.
In nineteenth-century England, certain types f peppered mths were able t better blend (融合) int their surrundings. During that time perid, great changes were happening in Great Britain. The Industrial Revlutin was part f this change, and with it came air pllutin. Natural selectin ften takes hundreds r even thusands f years t ccur. Fr the peppered mth, this prcess ccurred cmparatively (相对地) quickly.
At the beginning f the Industrial Age, mst peppered mths in England were light-clred and cvered with black markings, althugh a few mths had dark-clred wings. Because the light-clred mths blended int the light-clred bark n the trees, they culd nt be easily seen by birds that wuld eat them. As the air grew mre plluted, hwever, tree trunks became cvered with st (煤烟) and became darker. The light-clred mths became easy fr birds t see against the dark tree trunks.
