During the cnstructin Snecha used cntrasting clrs s that students culd easily distinguish between the elements. Blue was used fr all classrm drs, yellw fr the entrance gate, black fr switch buttns, and yellw and green fr the furniture. All these clrs cntrasted with the white walls f the schl, helping the students lcate different elements. Different areas are f different height and width, which makes the sunds and nises change accrding t the ech (回音) prduced in these spaces. Furthermre, he cperated with fellw landscape architect Lkendra Balasaria t plant mre than 1, 000 plants f 37 species. Language gives us the pwer t describe cuntless actins, prperties and relatins that cmpse ur experiences, real r imagined. As fr hw languages were created, scientists fund icnicity might play a key rle.
Peple can’t bridge language gap and understand each ther withut icnicity. When playing a game f charades (猜字谜) , we act ut ur meaning, using ur hands and bdies t describe the sizes and shapes f bjects. The key t this prcess f frming new symbls is the use f icnicity. Nt limited t gesturing, icnicity appears in ur visual cmmunicatin t. Traffic signs, fd packaging, maps. . . wherever there are peple cmmunicating, yu will find icnicity.
Accrding t ur research icnicity might als exist in ur vices. We rganized a cntest in which we invited cntestants t recrd a set f sunds t express different meanings. The winner f the cntest was determined by hw well listeners culd guess the intended meanings f the sunds based n a set f written ptins. Critically, the sunds that cntestants submitted culdn’t include actual wrds r nmatpeias (拟声词) .
Listeners were remarkably gd at interpreting the meanings f the sunds. Yet, all f the cntestants and listeners were speakers f English. Thus, it was pssible that listeners’ success relied n sme cultural knwledge that they shared with the speakers. Did the listeners als understand the speakers frm cmpletely different cultural backgrunds?
Later, an Internet survey translated int 25 different languages was carried ut. Participants listened t each sund frm the English speakers and guessed the meaning by chsing frm six written wrds. Guessing accuracy fr the different grups ranged frm 74 percent fr English speakers t 34 percent fr Prtuguese speakers. It is far frm perfect, but well abve the chance rate f eight percent expected by us.
Taken tgether, these studies shw that ur capacity fr icnic cmmunicatin has played a critical rle. Withut this special talent, language wuld likely never have gtten ff the grund.

9. What can we knw abut the cntest?
A. It required sunds cntaining meanings.B. Its winners were creative in recrdings.
C. It aimed t prve icnicity in wrds.D. Its entries were familiar t listeners.
10. What can be inferred frm Paragraph 4?
A. English prnunciatins differ.B. The research has a limitatin.
C. The cultural gap is narrwing.D. Listening skills vary in cultures.
11. What is the significance f the research?
A. Clarifying the influence f sunds.B. Prving the necessity f exchanges.

Many f us remember the feeling f having ur braces (牙套) regularly adjusted and retightened at the dentist’s. And interventins are based entirely upn the estimate f dentists and invlve a great deal f trial and errr, which can lead t t many visits t the dentist’s.
Prfessr Erleben and his team created a cmputer mdel that creates accurate 3D simulatins (模拟) f an individual patient’s jaw which dentists can use t predict hw sets f braces shuld be designed t best straighten a patient’s teeth and plan the best pssible treatment. T create these simulatins, the cmputer mdel was used t map sets f human teeth after getting detailed CT images f teeth and the small, fine structures between the jawbne and the teeth. This type f precise digital simulatin is referred t as a digital twin, a virtual mdel that lives in the clud.
The virtual mdel can answer what’s happening in the real wrld, and d s instantly. Fr example, ne can ask what wuld happen if yu pushed n ne tth and get answers with regards t where it wuld mve and hw it wuld affect ther teeth. The mdel als helps t predict the pst treatment effect, achieve “visualizatin” f treatment, and facilitate patients t understand the plan f straightening their teeth. What’s mre, it has enabled mre flexible and cnvenient digital medical fllw-up services.
The area f research that uses digital twins is relatively new. “Hwever, we need t set up a sufficiently big database if digital twins are t really take rt and benefit the healthcare industry,” Erleben said, “In the future, the virtual mdel can be used t plan, design and imprve, and can therefre be used t perate cmpanies, rbts, factries and used much mre in the energy, healthcare and ther fields.”
12. What is Paragraph 1 mainly abut?

A. Dubtful.B. Curius.C. Favrable.D. Dismissive.
15. What can be a suitable title fr the text?
