A new study led by researchers at the Yale Schl f Public Health finds air pllutin may negatively impact standardized test scres. Using data frm the Nrth Carlina Educatin Research Data Center, the researchers tracked 2.8 millin public schl students in Nrth Carlina frm 2001 t 2018 and measured their expsure t PM2.5fund in plluted air. While previus research has shwn negative effects n academic perfrmance, it has relied n relatively small r less representative samples. “The biggest strength f this study is that we tracked every student in Nrth Carlina in thse years, fr the whle time perid that they were in the public schls,” said Emma Zang, cauthr f the study.
The study als finds that test scres f ethnic minrities and girls are disprprtinately(不成比例地)impacted by PM2.5levels. “Females and ethnic minrities face sexism and racism,” said Zang. “There are a lt f plicies that are nt friendly twards them. S, when they’re expsed t the same level f air pllutin, they dn’t have the resurces t lessen the negative influences.” Mre privileged ppulatins hwever, might have mre resurces that allw them t live in a better envirnment, such as in huses with air purifiers.
“The level f PM2.5pllutin in the US is relatively lw, but students living in areas belw the current air quality standard f annual PM2.5cncentratin are still negatively impacted by air pllutin when it cmes t their test scres,” said Zang. “We shuld aim t strengthen the annual PM2.5standard t better prtect ur children.”
Air pllutin is knwn t cntribute t disease and death, and it als negatively affects students’ academic perfrmance even at lw levels f pllutin. The subsequent studies, the researchers said, wuld invlve lking at whether the findings hld true in different areas, and als the reasns behind the ethnic and sexual differences.
28.What’s the greatest advantage f the study?
    A.Cllecting mre cmprehensive data.

    C.benefit frm current plicies n PM2.5pllutin
D.suffer frm educatinal inequalities wing t their backgrund

Tday, petry and science are ften cnsidered t be mutually exclusive(互相排斥)career paths. But that wasn’t always the case. The mathematician Ada Lvelace and the physicist James Clerk Maxwell were bth accmplished pets. The pet Jhn Keats was a licensed surgen. Cmbining the tw practices fell ut f favr in the 1800s. But translating research int lyrics, haiku, and ther petic frms is resurging(再现)amng scientists as they lk fr alternative ways t inspire thers with their findings.
“Petry is a great tl fr questining the wrld,” says Sam Illingwrth, a pet and a gescientist wh wrks at the University f Western Australia. Thrugh wrkshps and a new science-petry jurnal, called Cnsilience, Ilingwrth is helping scientists t translate their latest results int pems that can attract appreciatin frm thse utside f their immediate scientific field.
Stephany Mazn, a scientist frm the University f Helsinki in Finland, jined ne f Illingwrth’s wrkshps. In the wrkshp, she was gruped with ther scientists and tasked with writing a haiku, a 17-syllable-lng pem, which sptlighted water, a fluid that featured in all f the grup members’ research prjects. “It was a lt f fun, and surprisingly easy t write the pem,” Mazn says. She plans t cntinue writing. “We d a disservice(伤害)t urselves t think that scientists can’t be artistic and that art can’t be used t cmmunicate scientific ideas,” Mazn says.
That viewpint is eched by Illingwrth, wh thinks science cmmunicatin initiatives are t ften dminated by public lectures with their hands-ff PwerPint slides. “Actually, when science cmmunicatin invlves writing and sharing pems, it invites a tw-way dialgue between experts and nnexperts,” he says. Scientist-pet Manjula Silva, an educatr at Imperial Cllege Lndn, agrees. Petry prvides a way t translate cmplex scientific cncepts int a language that everyne can understand, Silva says.
Scientists and pets are bth trying t understand the wrld and cmmunicate that understanding with thers. The distinctin between scientists and pets is less than peple might think. We’re all just peple with-hpefully-really interesting things t say and t share.
32.What is the purpse f mentining the celebrities in paragraph 1?
    A.T display they were talented.
B.T cnfirm they were ut f favr.
    C.T encurage different career paths.
D.T shw petry and science can be cmbined.
    33.What are Illingwrth’s wrkshps aimed t d?
    A.Prmte a new science-petry jurnal.
    B.Encurage science cmmunicatin thrugh pems.
C.Inspire utsiders t pursue their careers in science.
D.Get scientists t exchange ideas abut the latest research.
34.What des Illingwrth think f the dminant ways f science cmmunicatin?
    A.Innvative.B.Effective.C.Cnventinal.D.Cmplex.
35.Which f the fllwing is the best title fr the text?
    A.Scientists Take n Petry
    B.Scientists and Pets Think Alike

    D.Science Cmmunicatin: A Tw-way Dialgue

Their nerves were near the edge f breaking dwn after lng hurs f uncertainty in the wilderness.
Paragraph 2: On the third night, a distant engine sund brke the terrible stillness. “It must be my dad!” Kevin yelled. Relief washed ver the wear y faces as they witnessed the apprach f a rugged vehicle, with headlights cutting thrugh the darkness-a beacn f hpe amidst the peril. Kevin’s dad stepped ut t meet the grup. The emtins that played acrss their faces-disbelief, gratitude, and verwhelming jy-mirrred the shared truble that had frged a deep bnd amng them. The jurney back was filled with survival stries and lessns learned, deepening their understanding f the wilderness. Back hme, Kevin’s dad said, “Gd thing yu tld me thse directins,” teaching them the imprtance f infrming smene abut plans. The experience turned int tales f curage and resilience, embedded in their memries as lessns fr a lifetime.
