Have yu ever lked at the sky and thught abut darkness? Is it nthing? Or is there smething in the dark? Csmlgists (宇宙学家) try t answer questins abut things in space. They even study the darkness in space. They say the universe is abut 5 percent “nrmal” matter—things we can see, like Earth and ther planets, and the sun and ther stars. But abut 70 percent f the universe is smething called dark energy.
Csmlgists say the ther 25 percent f the universe is dark matter. Dark matter has sme weight. It’s heavy s we knw it’s there. But we can’t see it, s it is very hard t study smething that yu can’t see!
One pssible kind f dark matter is a brwn dwarf (褐矮星). A brwn dwarf is t big t be a planet and t small t be a star. Brwn dwarfs are clder than stars, and they dn’t give ff light that peple can see. Csmlgists fund them by using a telescpe that finds heat. They fund the first brwn dwarf in 1995.
Csmlgists knw a lt abut ne kind f dark matter—black hles. In 1783, an English astrnmer, Jhn Michell, guessed that there were black hles. But csmlgists didn’t find any black hles until 188 years later. Since then, they’ve fund many black hles in space.
It’s very dark with much gravity (引力) in a black hle. There is s much gravity in a black hle that nthing can get ut, nt even light. This is why we can’t see them. Csmlgists find black hles by lking at things arund them.
Fr example, stars and gases near a black hle mve very fast.
Things in space can fall int a black hle, and when they d, they can never get ut. But dn’t wrry—Earth will never fall int a black hle because there is nt ne clse enugh.
69.When did csmlgists first find black hles?
A.In 1783.B.In 1971.C.In 1995.D.In 1595.
70.What can we knw abut brwn dwarfs?

C.The first ne was fund by using a telescpe.D.They are much htter than stars and planets.
71.What wuld be the best title fr the passage?
A.Black Hles in Space.B.Dark Energy in Space.
C.Nrmal Matter in the Universe.D.Dark Matter in the Universe.
72.What can we infer frm the passage?
A.We have knwn nthing abut dark matter s far.
B.Earth culd fall int a black hle in several centuries.
C.The earth is t far away frm a black hle t fall int it.
D.The biggest black hle is as big as ten billin f ur sun.

By recycling, peple can reduce waste, save energy, and prtect the wrld’s natural resurces. Green architects (建筑师) recycle in many different ways. Instead f destrying an ld building, they make changes t it s that peple can use it fr a new purpse. Old factries r churches are smetimes made int apartment buildings r ffice buildings. 73 A greenhuse might make a fantastic, fashinable café.
Used car tires (轮胎) and fd r drink cans (容器) are useful building materials, t. 74 In the 1970s, American architect Mike Reynlds started designing buildings knwn as earthships. They are made mstly frm tires filled with earth, and they use nly natural energy like the sun.
Earthships d nt have running water. 75 This water is then cleaned s that peple can drink and wash with it. Peple can als recycle sme f it. Water that cmes frm the shwer r frm washing clthes is knwn as gray water. This water can be used t flush tilets r t water plants and fields.
It is nt nly ld buildings that can have a new life, and it isn’t just architects and engineers wh have gd ideas fr recycling. In 1994, Jann, frm Mississippi, USA, lst her huse in an ice strm. 76 S they decided t recycle ne f the ld planes int a new huse fr Jann! At that time, the average price f a new huse in the USA was $150,000. Jann spent $2,000 buying the plane, $4,000 mving it t her land, and abut $24,000 making it int a huse. Unusual, cheap, and green!
77 When a building is destryed, whle pieces—like drs and windws can be repaired, repainted, and reused in new buildings. Natural resurces like stne, metal, r wd can be taken frm the walls, flrs, r rf f the building.
