This year, impatient as ever fr winter t end, I decided t skip my usual rutine f calendar watching and see if I culdn't d smething t speed up spring's arrival.

I went lking fr spring and I fund it where spring breakers find it every year, already in full swing in the Sunshine State. My wn fficial remval f wlen cats will ccur n Tuesday, when spring finally arrives. But having experienced 24 hurs f spring's full pageant(盛会), my wn little preseasn, I feel slightly pacified. The prtesters wh had gathered n a lawn in Rme's central Piazz a Venezia came frm neighbrhds all arund the capital, but they had ne cncern in cmmn: saving the twering umbrella pine trees that fr centuries have decrated the city's skyline but are disappearing in alarming numbers.
Celebrated in music and art, and admired by the ancient Rmans, the trees are as much a part f the city's identity as its human-made landmarks. "They are in the hearts, phtgraphs and memries f everyne," said Jacpa Stinchelli, wh is helping lead the defense f the pines, which in recent years have taken a turn fr the wrse.
An attack by an invasive pest, which sneaked int Italy abut a decade ag, has killed many trees. In the eyes f sme Rmans, hwever, it's nt just the bugs that are t blame but als a city gvernment that has struggled t deliver basic services.
Critics say that the pines have been subjected t indiscriminate remval, with trees that culd still have been saved. They claim that during the past tw years at least 4,000 ptentially curable trees have been chpped dwn. While it's hard t lay respnsibility n Rme's municipal gvernment fr the invasin f pests, critics say the city culd be ding mre t preserve the pines.
The primary methd t cunter the pest in urban areas invlves injecting a special insecticide int the tree t kill the female ppulatin. But the current cstly and high-maintenance apprach "can't be a permanent slutin," said Pi Federic Rversi, the directr f a natinal research center fr plant prtectin. "We'd better intrduce natural predatrs—animals that kill and eat the pests, which desn't pse a risk fr the Italian envirnment," Mr. Rversi said.
Sabrina Alfnsi, the member f Rme's City Cuncil, said in an interview that the city had set aside 100 millin eurs, r $110 millin, t care fr the city's green spaces. All infected pines had been treated, she added, the city has begun mnitring all its 350,000 trees f varius species.
N slutin is likely t eliminate the pest prblem entirely, Mr. Rversi said, but it culd becme manageable "s that the plants n lnger suffer."
32. What can we learn abut the umbrella pin es in recent years?
A. The distributin is hugely uneven.
B. They have faded ut f Rman mind.
C. The number has drpped dramatically.
D. They are used t celebrate special ccasins.
33. What shuld the gvernment d accrding t the critics?
A. Remve the bugs as sn as pssible.
B. Make effrts t defend curable pines.
C. Chp dwn the trees destryed by pests.
D. Take respnsibility fr the invasin f pests.
34. Hw might the pest prblem be better handled?
A. By using natural enemies.
B. By spraying chemical pesticides.
C. By replanting pines resistant t pests.
D. By establishing a nature reserve fr pines.
35. What's the attitude f Rversi t the gvernment's latest respnse?
A. Indifferent. B. Skeptical. C. Discntented. D. Apprving.

⑳ Jb interviews can generally be divided int three types. The first is what ⑱I wuld call the traditinal interview. This is usually just a series f standard questins abut qualificatins, wrk experience and expectatins. ⑱ S what yu have here is basically a list f quite direct questins, like what duties did yu have in yur previus jb. This is still the mdel fr a lt f interviews tday. In my view it's nt the best t select staff. ⑲Then there is the case interview. Here the interviewer presents a prblem and a series f questins t find ut hw the candidate wuld apprach the prblem. It might g like this. "A cmpany wants t hi re mre graduates withut spending mre than its current budget. What wuld yu advise them t d?" This can be particularly challenging. fr yu need t analyse the prblem and slve it.
The third type is knwn as the behaviral interview. The questins are usually designed t find ut hw the candidates handle tricky situatins in the past. A typical questin might be "Can yu give me an example f a situatin where yu had t fllw rders that yu didn't agree with?" This pens up a lt f infrmatin and the interviewer gets t see mre f the candidate.
