Our brains are “prgrammed” t learn mre frm peple we like—and less frm thse we dislike, This has been shwn by researchers in cgnitive neurscience (认知神经科学) in a series f experiments.
Memry serves a, vital functin, enabling us t learn frm new experiences and update existing knwledge. We learn bth frm individual experiences and frm cnnecting them t draw new cnclusins abut the wrld. This way, we can make inferences abut things that we dn’t, necessarily have direct experience f, This is called memry integratin and makes learning quick and flexible.
T examine what affects ur ability t learn, and make inferences, Ines Brama, assciate-prfessr f psychlgy at Lund University, alng with his c-wrkers, set up experiments where participants were tasked with remembering and cnnecting different bjects. It culd be a bwl, ball, spn, scissrs, r ther everyday bjects. It turned ut that memry integratin was influenced by wh presented it. If it was a persn the participant liked, cnnecting the infrmatin was easier cmpared t when the infrmatin came frm smene the participant disliked. The participants prvided individual definitins f ‘like’ and ‘dislike’ based n aspects such as plitical views, majrs, eating habits, favrite sprts, hbbies, and music.
The findings can be applied in real life, accrding t the researchers. Ines explained: “Suppse a plitician argues fr raising taxes t benefit healthcare. Later, yu visit a healthcare center and ntice imprvements have been made. If yu side with the plitician that wanted t imprve healthcare thrugh higher taxes, yu’re likely t credit the imprvements t the tax increase, even thugh the imprvements might have had a cmpletely different cause.”
There’s already vast research describing that peple learn infrmatin differently depending n the surce and hw that characterizes plarizatin and knwledge resistance. “What ur research shws is hw these significant phenmena can partly be traced back t fundamental principles that gvern hw ur memry wrks,” says Ines. We tend t frm new cnnectins and update knwledge frm infrmatin presented by grups we favr.
12. Which f the fllwing can best replace the underlined wrd “prgrammed” in Paragraph 1?
A. Enhanced.B. Organized.C. Desire-driven.D. Nature-decided.
13. What did the experiments in Paragraph 3 cnclude?
A. It’s easier t absrb favrable infrmatin.
B. It’s beneficial t fcus n everyday bjects.
C. Presenters matter in cnnecting infrmatin.
D. Life experiences affect peple’s inferences.
14. Hw did Ines explain the applicatin f his findings?
A. By intrducing a cncept.
B. By making an assumptin.
C. By emplying an expert’s wrds.
D. By referring t anther experiment.
15. What can be a suitable title fr the text?
A. Hw brains functin in learningB. Wh impacts memry integratin
C. Hw brains learn frm experiencesD. What imprves lng-term memry
