Psychlgy prfessr Victr Benassi at the University f New Hampshire has been experimenting with ways t use data analytics (数据分析) t make technlgy mre effective in the classrm.
In ne study, Benassi prved that PwerPint presentatins with animatin (动画), clrful backgrunds and unrelated phtgraphs can direct students’ attentin away frm the lessns.
T shw the influence presentatin design can have n student learning, Benassi carried ut a study in which he asked vlunteers t give their PwerPint slides t him. He then redesigned half the slides in prfessrs’ presentatins by cutting anything extra, breaking materials int smaller parts and adding necessary pictures r graphs t explain text. The result? The percentage f crrect answers t tests at the end f each class was 14% higher fr questins abut material presented in the redesigned slides cmpared with thse abut materials presented in the riginal (原始的) slides. The changes imprved students’ lng-term retentin,t, and because f the increased sharp memries, in the mid-term exams there was a 10-pint difference between questins based n material presented in redesigned versus riginal slides.
Using data t check learning and imprve teaching is especially imprtant as educatin faces calls fr greater answerableness fr student success, said Linda Baer, PhD, funder f a higher educatin firm called i4 Slutins.
When prfessrs cllect and analyze data quite ften, they can decide when students are at risk fr failure, and even can help students cnsider a change in majrs, said Baer.
Of curse, the real thing is what t d with the infrmatin yu find, she said. “The prblem is that many times we lk at the data t see hw everybdy did at the end f the term instead f lking thrughut the term and understanding hw things are ging early enugh t d smething abut it,” she said.
“N matter what level yu apply analytics t”, said Baer, “the gal is t better the situatin.” Take ne prgram, where students ften drpped ut when they hit the required physilgy (生理学) class. Analysis shwed the prblem wasn’t hw difficult the class was fr these nntraditinal students, but the 3p.m. time when it was ffered. “What happens at 3:00? Kids get ut f schl,” said Baer. “Peple weren’t cmpleting the prgram because the curse was ffered at a time that wasn’t easy fr them t get t.”
Using data t see wh’s making steady prgress tward graduatin and wh’s in truble can be as simple as tracking attendance (追踪出勤) and calling students wh dn’t shw up, said Baer. Learning and curse management systems can help prfessrs track attendance and student attentiveness, said Baer. Yet prfessrs are nt using such tls well enugh, she said, using a 2012 case study in Educaitnal Technlgy & Sciety that fund that at least 70% f the prfessrs at a large research-based university weren’t using them.

C.with unrelated phtgraphs may direct students away frm the lessns
D.help students get mre attentin frm prfessrs and achieve success

C.Interest in what they are learning.D.Interest in asking pen questins.

C.explain the imprtance and ppularity f data analysis in teaching and learning

Cllege students cnstantly hear the praises f educatin. We have all becme used t believing that a cllege educatin is always a guarantee f an easier life. I was nine years ld when my furth-grade teacher presented me with a task, t write dwn all f the things I wanted in my life. I filled my paper with things like: wn a big huse and have servants; be rich and have a gd jb. The next day my teacher handed back my paper and in red ink she wrte: “GO TO COLLEGE.” Fr a lng time, I was cnvinced that nce I btained an educatin, BAM! Life wuld be easier.
Hwever, educatin cannt prmise all wishes, dreams, and desires. Sciety must reject (拒绝) the flish idea that a cllege educatin’s main purpse is t satisfy ur desires and secure success. Like mst challenging things, educatin is a gamble (赌博) in which results depend entirely n peple’s ability t lk past their wants t see the realism and reasn behind their wants.
Fr instance, my first year f cllege, I tk a scilgy class. In class, we were taught that Third Wrld cuntries were pr. We learned that ur quality f life wuld be almst impssible fr an average persn in thse cuntries. I began t examine my wn desire t be rich. T always g after mney felt selfish when knwing thers had nne at all. Learning abut ther sciety’s financial situatins frced me t lk beynd what I wanted.
Thrugh the prcess f educatin, everything nce desired is tested. Wanting smething n lnger is enugh; it’s mre imprtant t examine why we want it and whether we really want it. When my desire fr mney changed, everything changed. I stpped lnging fr mney-driven careers and stpped valuing the peple wh had them. I began t examine the things I purchased (追求) and my reasn fr wanting them.
Educatin is a tl t be used t develp and advance ur desires, s we can discver the things that are truly significant in life. Educatin is a surce t expand ur sciety t see beynd the superficial (表面的) appeals ( 诉 求 ) and the “quick fixes”, leaving the belief f an effrtless life behind in rder t desire a meaningful ne.
    30.The authr’s furth-grade teacher prbably agreed that________.
A.a cllege degree was the key t the authr’s dreams
B.the authr shuld set mre realistic gals
C.a cllege student wuld lead an easier life
D.the authr was an ambitius student
31.Why des the authr mentin her scilgy class?
A.T share her learning experiences with readers.
B.T express her sympathy fr peple in Third Wrld.
C.T supprt her new understanding abut educatin.
D.T stress the imprtance f taking a scilgy curse.
32.With a cllege educatin, the authr________.
A.admired rich pepleB.lst interest in career
C.stpped always purchasing mre wealthD.desired mre material things
33.What’s the main idea f the passage?
A.Cllege educatin prmises an effrtless life.
B.Cllege educatin turns yung peple int gamblers.
C.Cllege educatin ffers slutins t scial prblems.
D.Cllege educatin tests and guides ur life desires.
