At the age f abut furteen mnths, a guide dg begins serius training that lasts frm three t five mnths. The dg learns t watch the traffic and crss the street safely. It als learns t bey such cmmands as “frward”, “left”, “right” and “sit” and t disbey any cmmand that might lead its wner int danger.
The mst imprtant part f the training is a fur-week prgram in which the guide dg and its future wner learn t wrk tgether. Hwever, many blind peple are nt used t wrking with dgs. Only abut ten percent f blind peple find a guide dg useful.
