定义：①用来修饰某个名词或代词的从句叫作定语从句，通常放在所修饰部分的后面。被修饰的名词或代词叫先行词。引导定语从句的词叫关系词，分为关系代词“that, which，wh, whm, whse” 和关系副词“when, where, why”。
②关系词位于先行词和定语从句之间，起连接作用，并代替先行词在定语从句中作某种成分，因此定语从句中不能再重复出现相当于先行词的词。
1.关系代词的基本用法
注意：关系代词在句中作宾语时常可省略。
2.关系副词的基本用法
▶只能用that的情况：
（1）先行词是all, nne, little, much, sme, everything, anything, nthing等不定代词时。如：Tm tld his mther all that had happened.
（2）先行词前面有the nly, the very, the last, the same等修饰时。如：This is the nly bk that I can find.
（3）先行词被序数词或形容词最高级修饰时。如：This is the best bk that I have ever read.
（4）先行词既有人又有物时。如：I've never heard f the peple and things that yu talked abut just nw.
▶只能用which的情况：
（1）关系代词放在介词之后。如：This is the factry in which we nce wrked.
（2）非限制性定语从句中。如：This is a famus bk, which was written by Lu Xun.
