Several weeks ag, I pulled an ld rad map ut f the glve bx and passed it t my children. They had never seen the Prvince f Ontari laid ut like that befre. They stared at the map, asking abut all the twns, parks, and ther landmarks we’d visited, and I pinted them ut n the map.

Frm huses surrunded by impressive gardens t days spent explring sandy beaches and deep wds filled with wildlife, in My Family and Other Animals, British writer Gerald Durrell prvided a vivid accunt f his family’s time n the Greek island f Crfu in the 1930s.

Fifty percent f the Kenyan tp runners are members f Kalenjin, ne minrity race f the cuntry. They make up less than tw percent f Kenya’s ppulatin. This fact has puzzled sprts scientists. A team f Danish scientists spent 18 mnths and discvered the Kalenjins had remarkably slw heart rates even when running lng distances. The Kalenjins live in high-elevatin (高海拔) villages in western Kenya. Peple living there prduce mre red bld cells, which supprt the transprt f xygen thrughut the bdy. Scientists believe there is a cnnectin between increased red bld cells and lw heart rates and that bth may enable high-altitude athletes t utperfrm thse wh train at lw elevatin. The Danish scientists als studied the bdies f the Kalenjins and cmpared them t thse f the Danes.
