English is the mst widely spken language in the wrld. And f the rughly 1.5 billin speakers glbally, the vast majrity speak it as a secnd language. S where are the wrld’s best nn-native English speakers? Accrding t a new reprt by EF Educatin First, an internatinal educatin cmpany, Nrthern Eurpeans are the mst fluent. Middle Easterners are the least prficient (精通的).
The index (指数) is based n the results f a free nline test taken by 2.3 millin vlunteers in 100 cuntries. Nearly six in ten f this year’s test-takers were female. Wmen have always perfrmed better than men, but this year men clsed the gap smewhat.
In Eurpe, the pwerhuse ecnmies perfrm surprisingly badly: nly Germany makes the tp place f “very high prficiency” cuntries. France is next, while Spain and Italy are cntinuusly falling behind. A study by a Spanish research institute reprted the bad news: 60% f adults say they speak n English at all. The fact that Spanish is a glbal language in its wn right (the language declares 400 millin native speakers) is prbably the cause. If yu speak Danish, yu need anther language t take part in glbal culture; speaking French r Spanish (r Arabic) means hundreds f millins f peple t talk t withut English.
Asia is the regin f greatest diversity (多样性). Only Singapre makes the tp level, but the Philippines, Malaysia, and India are nt far behind. China is further back but still in the secnd level, a few places ahead f Japan. Struggling in the bttm places are a grup f Suth-East and Central Asian cuntries like Cambdia and Kyrgyzstan. This relates with anther factr: the cmpany repeatedly finds that English skills are highly related with cnnectins and penness t the rest f the wrld.

D. The gap between female and male is getting clse year by year.
6.Why 60% f Spanish adults say they speak n English at all?
A. Spanish is a glbal language itself.B. 400 millin Spanish speak English.
C. Spanish is easy t understand.D. English fails t attract them.
7.What can be inferred frm the last paragraph?
A. Asia is the regin with the best nn-native English speakers.
B. China is the secnd place with the best nn-native English speakers.
C. Cuntries in Suth-East and Central Asian are less pen in Asia.

When mst peple picture bbsled frm the Winter Olympics r frm the film “Cl Runnings”, they usually see fur peple, r at least tw, energetically pushing a sled and then leaping in befre racing dwn an icy curse.
But differently, in mnbb, an event making its first Olympic shw at the 2022 Beijing Winter Games, ne sledder des it all: push, leap and drive, and at this year’s Games, every ne f the cmpetitrs will be a wman.
The event is ne f seven additins t the Olympics prgram fr 2022 and the nly ne f the grups that will be cmpeted nly by wmen. Als being added are freestyle skiing big air jumping events fr men and wmen and a handful f mixed-gender events.
Mnbb, hwever, may get the mst attentin. The event was attracting the Internatinal Olympic Cmmittee in many ways, but particularly because f its cmpetitive advantages. The cst f entry fr the smaller sleds—a mnbb might cst abut $15,000, while a tw-persn is abut $70,000—and the need fr nly a single sledder has fair results: Brazil and Jamaica wn medals at last seasn’s Wrld Cup and a Cambdian recrded in the tp ten.
In additin, all mnbb sleds will cme frm the same prducer, which partly weakens the technlgical advantages that wealthy natins have lng enjyed. In all the years f bbsled at the Games, nly Germany, Switzerland, the United States, Canada and Italy have wn mre than ne gld medal.

9.Hw many events were added t the 2022 Beijing Winter Games?

A. Because it has cmpetitive advantages in cst and result.
B. Because it gets the mst attentin frm the public.
C. Because it csts mre n every sledder fr entry.
D. Because it meets the need fr unfair results f sledder.
11.Accrding t the authr, what des he think f the “mnbb”?

In a study dne by Trends in Eclgy & Evlutin, a team led by Sara Ryding, a PhD at Deakin University, in Australia, shws that is already happening. And climate change is already changing the bdies f many animal species, giving them bigger beaks (鸟喙), limbs and ears.
In sme species f Australian parrt, fr example, beak size has increased by between 4% and 10% since 1871. All that is nicely in line with evlutinary thery (进化论). “Allen’s rule”, named fr Jel Asaph Allen, wh suggested it in 1877, hlds that warm-blded animals in ht places tend t have larger appendages (附肢) than thse in mild regins.
Such increase in an animal’s surface area helps it release (释放) extra heat. Fr example, being richly gifted with bld vessels, and nt cvered by feathers, beaks make an ideal place fr birds t release heat.
It seems clear that the wrld f the future is nt just ging t be htter than humans are used t. These animals living in it will lk different, t. Studying a larger range f animals will help figure ut what is exactly happening. Much f Ms Ryding’s data is abut birds, hwever, with less infrmatin available fr ther animals.

A. T intrduce climate change.B. T intrduce evlutin f animals.
