After graduating frm Ontari Cllege f Teachers, I became a teacher at a ne-rm cuntry schl in Aldbrugh Twnship.
That first day f schl as a 19-year-ld female teacher was a frightening experience. It was ne thing t have graduated as a successful student; it was anther thing t face a classrm f little faces that were waiting fr the “new teacher.” I had a classrm f 21 children f different shapes and sizes. The yungest was five ging n six and the eldest was 16.
There were tw drs fr entrance in my schl, ne fr the girls, ne fr the bys and just inside each dr was a chemical tilet—n utdr facilities fr us! The heat in the building was a wd-burning furnace(火炉) dwn in the basement. Tending the furnace was ne f my respnsibilities. Luckily, I knew a bit abut starting a fire, s the schl didn’t burn dwn.
What I fund mst difficult was that a parent might take a child ut f schl fr any reasn. I had ne Dutch family, whse father wuld keep the children ut f schl t help with the farm wrk. Finally, I gt tired f this and sent an educatin fficer t slve the prblem. Needless t say, I was very unppular with that father frm then n, but the children came t schl much mre regularly!
In the classrm, the lder students helped the yunger nes with learning, as well as with putting n cats and hats. If smene’s lunch was frgtten, everyne shared a bit f their fd. We were a family. We had gd times and bad times, but we kept learning. Far beynd maths, scial studies, reading, grammar and writing, we learned hw t get alng with each ther.
I lved teaching at this small schl and knew I was teaching the children abut life as much as abut subjects. I’d like t believe sme students will have an influence n the wrld that will last lng after I am gne.
24.Why did the authr feel her first day as a teacher frightening?
A.S many students were in class. B.The situatins were quite different.

When it cmes t being fit and healthy, we're ften reminded t aim t walk 1,000 steps every day. This can make many unhappy because it is a task difficult t achieve, especially when we're busy with wrk and ther businesses--and yet where did this number actually cme frm?
The 10,000 steps a day target sens t have cme abut frm a trade name pedmeter (计步器)sld in 1965 by Yamasa Clck in Japan. The device was called "Manp-kei", which translates t"10,000 steps meter". This was a marketing tl fr the device and has seemed t have stuck acrss the wrld as the daily step target. It's even included in daily activity targets by ppular smart watches, such as Fitbit.
Research has since investigated the 10,000 steps a day target. But while sme research has shwn health benefits at 10,000 steps, recent research frm Harvard Medical Schl has shwn that,n average, arund 4,400 steps a day is enugh t clearly lwer the risk f death in wmen. This was when cmpared t nly walking arund 2,700 steps daily. The mre steps peple walked, the lwer their risk f dying was, befre leveling ff at arund 7,500 steps a day. N additinal benefits were seen with mre steps. Althugh it's uncertain whether similar results wuld be seen in men, it's ne example f hw mving a little bit mre daily can imprve health and lwer risk f death.
Recent research at the University f Texas has als shwn that if yu' re walking fewer than 5,000 steps a day, yur bdy is less able t metablize (新陈代谢) fat the fllwing day. A buildup f fat in the bdy can als increase a persn's likelihd f develping heart disease and diabetes. This is further supprted by earlier research which shwed peple wh walked less than 4,000 steps a day culd nt change this decreased fat metablism.
If yu want t increase hw many steps yu get daily, r simply want t mve mre, ne easy way includes walking t wrk if pssible, r taking part f an nline exercise prgram if yu're wrking frm hme. Meeting with friends fr a walk -- rather than in a cafe r pub -- can als be useful.
    28. What des the authr think f the 10,000 steps every day?
    A. It is hard t achieve fr many peple.
    B. It is likely t g ut f style quickly.
    C. It is bviusly gd fr wmen nly.
    D. It is helpful t slw fat metablism.
    29. What des research frm the Harvard Medical Schl suggest abut the target?
    A. It matters as much as 7,500 steps a day.
    B. The mre steps, the lwer risk f death,
    C. A bit mre than the target can imprve health.
    D. Abut half that target appears t be enugh.
    30. What des the furth paragraph mainly tell us?
    A. Absence f earlier research,
    B. Recent findings f fat buildup.
    C. Prblems f less daily walking.
    D. Pssible causes f physical challenges.
    31. Which f the fllwing is ne f the suggested ways accrding t the passage?
    A. Wrking at hme. B. Treating friends in a cafe r pub.
    C. Driving t wrk. D. Signing up fr nline exercise prgrams.
    D
Cnflict (冲突) between teenagers and parents happens fr a lt f reasns. Smetimes cnflict happens between teenagers and parents just because cnflict happens between human beings anyway. Humans have different needs, different feelings, different pinins abut what they want, and the relatinship with peple can be really difficult. Hwever, teenagers can cause further cnflict because f the hrmnal (生理的) changes that are happening and the stage f life that they're in.

Befre we think abut rule bundaries (界线) fr teenagers, we need t make sure that we have a really gd relatinship base. There's n pint saying “Frm nw n, yu have t listen t me”: if yu dn't have a psitive relatinship with yur teenager. We need t g back and make sure there is sme degree f shared respect, and sme degree f psitive cmmunicatin and enjyment being tgether. yu d that first, it means that rule bundaries are a lt easier t set up.
Often we're dealing with cnflict n the fly. This is nt the right time t be dealing with it. We really want parents and teenagers t sit dwn and think abut the kinds f things that may happen in the huse befre the prblems cme. The mre detailed yur rule bundaries are fr teenagers, the mre likely it is that they are ging t fllw them. S this means we dn't have rule bundaries like “Have the bathrm cleaned”. It needs t be “The flrs mpped, nthing n the cuntertp and the mirrrs cleaned by ten 'clck every Saturday”: Rule bundaries need t be written dwn, and set ut ahead f time s the teenager knws exactly what's expected.
32.What's imprtant t set up a rule bundary easily fr teenagers?
    A.Being strict frm the start.
B.Develping a gd relatinship with them first.
    C.Saying"N" t their requirements.
    D.Aviding clse talks with them.
33.Which f the fllwing rules are teenagers mst likely t fllw?
A.Ding sme husewrk. B.Having a gd reading habit.
C.Cleaning the bathrm. D.Finishing yur hmewrk by five.
34.What d the underlined wrds "n the fly" in the last paragraph prbably mean?
    A.In a hurry. B.On the plane. C.By neself. D.Anther day.
35.What's the best title fr the text?
    A.Grwing Pains B.Teenage Prblems
C.Parent-Child Cnflict and Slutins D.Knwing the Cnflict
