Trees take carbn dixide frm the atmsphere and stre it in cmplex mlecules (分子), releasing xygen. The mre phtsynthesis (光合作用), the mre carbn is lcked away.
Carbn dixide is a majr driver f climate change, s the mre that can be taken ut f the atmsphere by plants, the better. With the warmer climate leading t a lnger grwing seasn, sme researchers have suggested that mre carbn dixide wuld be absrbed by trees and ther plants than in previus times. But a new study has changed this thery and culd have prfund effects n hw we adapt t climate change.
The researchers at the Swiss Federal Institute f Technlgy studied the degree t which the timing f clur changes in autumn tree leaves was determined by the grwth f the plants in the previus spring and summer.
Using data frm the Pan Eurpean Phenlgy Prject, which has tracked sme trees fr as lng as 65 years, the researchers fund in their lng-term bservatinal study that as the rate f phtsynthesis increased, leaves changed clur and fell earlier in the year. Fr every 10%d increase in phtsynthetic activity ver the spring and summer grwing seasn, trees shed their leaves, n average, eight days earlier.
This research shws that deciduus (每年落叶的) trees can nly absrb a set amunt f carbn each year and nce that limit is reached, n mre can be absrbed. At that pint, leaves begin t change clur. This limit is set by the availability f nutrients, particularly nitrgen (氮气), and the physical structure f the plant itself, particularly the inner vessels which mve water and disslved nutrients arund. Nitrgen is a key nutrient which plants need in rder t grw, and it’s ften the amunt f available nitrgen that limits ttal grwth. This is why farmers and gardeners use nitrgen fertilisers (肥料) t vercme this limitatin.
It suggests that by 2100, when tree grwing seasns are expected t be between 22 and 34 days lnger, leaves will fall frm trees between three and six days earlier than they d nw.

C. Climate change can be slved naturally thrugh phtsynthesis.
D. Plants can give ff xygen and mlecules thrugh phtsynthesis.
29. Hw many days earlier may leaves averagely fall with 20% increase in phtsynthesis?
A. Eight days.B. Sixteen days.C. Twenty-eight days.D. Thirty-fur days.
30. What des the underlined wrd “vessels” mean in Paragraph 5?
A. Basins.B. Wells.C. CntainersD. Channels.
31. What des the authr mainly intend t infrm us?
A. Nitrgen is an essential nutrient fr plant grwing.
B. Warmer climate cntributes t lnger grwing seasn.
C. Farmers use fertilizers t increase the grwth f plants.
D. The amunt f carbn plants absrb is limited in a year.

What is the place f art in a culture f inattentin? Recent visitrs t the Luvre reprt that turists can nw spend nly a minute in frnt f the Mna Lisa befre being asked t mve n. Much f that time, fr sme f them, is spent taking phtgraphs nt even f the painting but f themselves with the painting in the backgrund.
One view is that we have made turism and gallery-ging s easy that we have made it effectively impssible t appreciate what we’ve travelled t see. In this sciety, experience becmes gds like any ther. There are queues t climb Everest as well as t see famus paintings. Thus, leisure is cnsidered as hard labur rather than relaxatin.
In the rapidly develping sciety, what gets lst is the quality f lking. Cnsider an extreme example, the late philspher Richard Wllheim. When he visited the Luvre he culd spend as much as fur hurs sitting befre a painting. The first hur, he claimed, was necessary fr incrrect impressin t be remved. It was nly then that the picture wuld begin t disclse itself. This seems unthinkable tday, but it is still pssible t rganise. Even in the busiest museums there are many rms and many pictures wrth hurs f cntemplatin (沉思) which the crwds largely ignre.
Marcel Prust, anther lver f the Luvre, wrte: “It is nly thrugh art that we can escape frm urselves and knw hw anther persn sees a universe which is nt the same as ur wn and whse landscapes wuld therwise have remained as unknwn as any there may be n the mn.” If any art remains wrth seeing, it must lead us t such escapes. But a minute in frnt f a painting in a hurried, harried (烦扰) crwd wn’t d that.
32. Why des the authr mentin the example in Luvre in Paragraph 1?
A. T express his cncern abut Luvre. B. T reprt the ppularity f Mna Lisa.
C. T intrduce a gd place t take phts. D. T shw a disappinting current situatin.
33. Which f the fllwing will Richard Wllheim agree?
A. Peple need t clear up their misunderstanding f paintings.
B. Peple have t stay at least 4 hurs when appreciating paintings.
C. It is impssible fr mdern peple t admire paintings attentively.
D. The lnger ne admires the paintings, the mre unlikely he lves them.
34. What rle des art play in ur life accrding t Marcel Prust?
A. Art is f help fr us t accept urselves better.
B. Art makes ur life mre clurful and meaningful.
C. Art allws us t knw the wrld in the view f thers.
D. Art pushes us away frm urselves and explres the mn.
35. Which is the best title f the passage?
A. Int art attentively.B. Escape frm urselves.
C. Beynd art cmpletely.D. G t the museums ften.
