    Anyway, ne day I ran upstairs t Mrs. Riley’s. She leaves the dr unlcked when she knws I’m cming. She wasn’t in her usual place by the windw. She was in bed. “Are yu sick?” I shuted. “Yes, girl. Yu can’t wrk fr me anymre,”Mrs. Riley said. She cughed. “I have t take medicine, and it csts a lt. I can’t pay yu.”
    I felt sick t my stmach. Hw wuld I find anther jb? I went ver and stuck my finger in Sam’s cage. He hpped n his swing and chirped hell. Then I turned and left.
    That night at dinner I culdn’t eat. “Yu’ll find anther jb,” Mm said, sitting back in her chair. “I feel srry fr her, Carla. She’s s alne up there.” Then Mm leaned ver and gave me a hug. “I’m glad we have each ther,” she said. Mm always makes me feel better. I was able t eat after all.
