Rain is vital t life n Earth. Hwever, rain isn’t just made f water anymre — it’s partly made f plastic.
Millins f tiny pieces f plastic, called micrplastics, are wandering arund Earth’s atmsphere and traveling acrss entire cntinents, accrding t a study published in the jurnal Prceedings f the Natinal Academy f Sciences n April 12. Anther study, published in the jurnal Science in June 2020, has revealed that every year mre than 1,000 tns f the particles — equivalent t ver 120 millin plastic bttles — fall in rain.
Micrplastics are plastic particles less than 5 millimeters in diameter and cme frm a number f surces. Plastic bags and bttles released int the envirnment break dwn int smaller and smaller bits. Sme micrplastics are manufactured deliberately t prvide abrasin in a hst f prducts, such as tthpaste and cleansers, accrding t the Daily Mail. Anther majr surce is yur washing machine. When yu wash synthetic clthing, tiny micrfibers get flushed away with the wastewater. Even thugh the water is treated by a wastewater plant, the micrplastics remain, and they are released int the sea, accrding t American magazine Wired.
Plastic rain may remind peple f acid rain, but the frmer is far mre widespread and harder t deal with. The tiny particles, t small t be seen with the naked eye, are cllected by the wind frm the grund. They are s light that they stay in the air t be blwn arund the glbe. As they climb int the atmsphere, they are thught t act as nuclei arund which water vapr cndenses t frm cluds. Sme f the dust falls back t land in dry cnditins, while the rest cmes dwn as rain, accrding t the Daily Mail.
Micrplastics have been fund everywhere yu can imagine. Frm fish and frgs t mice and msquites, their bdies have been fund, n average, t cntain 40 pieces f micrplastic, reprted Daily Mail. As the tp f the fd chain, humans are expsed t micrplastics, t. “ We live n a ball inside a bubble,” micrplastic researcher Steve Allen at University f Strathelyde, Sctland, tld Wired. “There are n brders, there are n edges. It (plastic rain) is raining n the land and then getting blwn back up int the air again, t mve smewhere else. There’s n stpping it nce it’s ut.”

A baby brn tday will be thirty-smething in 2050. If all ges well, that baby will still be arund in 2100, and might even be an active citizen f the 22nd century. What shuld we teach that baby t help them survive and flurish in the wrld f 2050 and beynd? What kind f skills will they need in rder t get a jb, understand what is happening arund them, and navigate their tugh life?
At present, t many schls acrss the wrld fcus n prviding pupils with a set f predetermined skills, such as writing cmputer cde in C++ and cnversing in Chinese. Yet since we have n idea hw the wrld and the jb market will lk in 2050, we dn’t really knw what particular skills peple will need. We might invest a lt f effrt in teaching kids hw t write in C++ r t speak Chinese, nly t discver sner r later that AI will have been able t cde sftware far better than humans, and that a new translatin app will have enabled yu t cnduct a cnversatin in almst flawless Mandarin, Cantnese r Hakka, even thugh yu nly knw hw t say ni ha.
S what shuld we be teaching? Many experts argue that schls shuld dwnplay technical skills and emphasize general-purpse life skills: the ability t deal with change, t learn new things, and t preserve yur mental balance in unfamiliar situatins. In rder t keep up with the wrld f 2050, yu will abve all need t reinvent yurself again and again.
T succeed in such a demanding task, yu will need t wrk very hard n getting t knw yur perating system better—t knw what yu are and what yu want frm life. This is, f curse, the ldest advice in the bk: knw thyself. This advice was never mre urgent than in the mid-21st century, because unlike in the days f Lazi r Scrates, nw yu have serius cmpetitin. Cca-Cla, Amazn and Facebk are all racing t hack yu.
Right nw, the algrithms (算法) are watching where yu g, what yu buy, and wh yu meet. Sn they will mnitr all yur steps, breaths and heartbeats. They are relying n big data and machine learning t get t knw yu better and better. And nce these algrithms knw yu better than yu knw yurself, they culd cntrl and manipulate (操纵) yu. In the end, authrity will shift t them.
Of curse, yu might be perfectly happy giving up all authrity t the algrithms and trusting them t make decisins fr yu and fr the rest f the wrld. If, hwever, yu want t maintain sme cntrl ver yur persnal existence and ver the future f life in general, yu have t run faster than the algrithms. T run fast, dn’t take much luggage with yu. Leave all yur illusins (幻想) behind. They are very heavy.
32.What des the underlined wrd “dwnplay” in paragraph 3 mst prbably mean?
    A.Give t much emphasis n smething.
B.Make peple think that smething is less imprtant.
C.Offer yur reasns why smething is right r wrng.
D.Decide smething in advance s that it des nt happen.
33.Accrding t the article, what plays a vital rle in children’s bright future.
    A.imaginatinB.adaptability C.self-discipline D.a gd sense f balance
34.Why is it imprtant t knw ur perating system?
A.Because if we dn’t, algrithms will hack all ur devices.
B.Because it is an essential skill fr us t succeed in the wrld f 2050.
C.Because we need t learn hw algrithms wrk and make full use f them.
D.Because we need t utrun algrithms t keep sme cntrl ver ur persnal life.
35.What des he article mainly talks abut ?
    A.the imprtance f knwing yurself
B.the threats and dangers f technlgy
C.what kind f skills we might need in the future
D.sme ptential benefits algrithms wuld bring t humankind

Mdern humans have nly existed fr a relatively shrt time, and maybe we’d like t stick arund a lt lnger. But hw can we d that?
    Figure ut climate change.
36 There have been times in the past when it’s been htter than it is tday, and times when it’s been cler. But there is smething different abut the past century. As far as we can tell frm the recrd, there has been n time in Earth’s entire histry when the climate has warmed s much in such a shrt amunt f time. 37 There are: mre frequent and mre severe extreme weather events like trnades and hurricanes; drughts increasing; mre changeable weather, with seasns beginning t lack regularity; and sea level rises. While climate change desn’t necessarily pse an existential threat t human existence, it surely pses a threat t hw we like t live ur lives in mdern sciety.
    Figure ut nuclear weapns.
A single nuclear weapn desn’t pse a threat t all f humanity, but the thusands f them in the wrld right nw certainly d. 38 Just cnsider all the “near misses” in recent histry, where nuclear war was avided thanks nly t the quick thinking f individuals. We can nly try ur luck fr s lng. And ne accident can lead t larger scale nuclear cnflict. 39
    Figure ut asterids(小行星).
If yu want t knw the terrible cnsequences fr ignring space brne threats, just ask the dinsaurs hw well it wrked ut fr them. Asterids have the ability t cause massive extinctin events, wiping ut vast numbers f entire species. 40 Fr humanity t make it t the lng-term, we need t equip urselves with asterid detectin and reductin strategies
    A.The cnsequences can’t be avided.
B.Cuntries are jining hands t slve it.
C.Nw the chances f ne nuclear explsin increase.
D.The earth’s climate has changed fr millins f years.
E.While these kinds f events are rare, the risks are severe.

G.We need t disarm as much as pssible t reduce the risk f disaster.
