Baduanjin is one of the oldest health and fitness exercise in China, being originally created over 800 years ago during the Song Dynasty (960﹣1276). The name, literally meaning “eight-section brocade”, generally refers to how the eight individual movements describe a smooth quality to the movement of the body and its energy. Compared with more physically requiring sports such as the ball games, swimming or gym workouts, Baduanjin is slow and usually played with light music, so it used to be considered as the sport for the elders.
No equipment is necessary and it requires very little space when you do Baduanjin. In fact, it’s perfect for office workers, as they often suffer from lower back and neck pain caused by hours sitting in front of the computer. “I have been doing Baduanjin for about four months which makes me sleep well and get stronger. In the Kubuqi Desert in North China’s Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, there stands a large power station called the Junma Solar Power Station. Walking around it, visitors will find it hard to imagine that the area now covered with blue photovoltaic panels(光伏电池板) and green plants, was once barren and called “the sea of death”.
Covering an area of around 1.4 million square meters, the Junma Station has more than 196, 000 photovoltaic panels to form the pattern of a running horse. That’s where its name comes from. It’s not only the largest desert photovoltaic power station in China, but also the largest photovoltaic panel graphic power station in the world and a Guinness World Record holder.
By September 2022, the project had produced more than 2.312 billion kwh of green electricity, helping save 760,000 tons of standard coal and cut carbon dioxide emissions (碳排放) by 1.85 million tons. Besides bringing green energy to local people and industries, the project also helps control desertification and improve local people’s lives. Plants grow well under the photovoltaic panels and provide enough food for sheep.
The success of this project explains how a huge solar farm has been so important in protecting the environment. It also offers valuable experience to both China and the world, raising hopes for governments and encouraging them to use the clean energy to turn more “deadly” deserts into green planets.
27.Which of the following can best replace the underlined word “barren”in paragraph 1?

三、阅读还原7选5
Winston Churchill once said, “We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.” These are certainly words that millions of volunteers around the world could agree with.
In the US, April is National Volunteer Month, to praise and thank volunteers who lend their time, talent, and support to what they care about.
31 People who volunteer spend their time doing things they feel strongly about. For example, animal lovers may volunteer at an animal centre to help improve the treatment of animals.
Volunteering allows volunteers to meet new people, try out new skills and explore career choices. 32
Take Andrew Makhoul, a student at the University of Pennsylvania, as an example. Andrew didn’t spend his last spring break relaxing. Instead, the 19-year-old boy decided to do something for people who were less lucky than himself. He travelled to an orphanage(孤儿院) in Guatemala in Central America. 33 And it depends on volunteers to stay open.
Andrew doesn’t speak much Spanish, but he found communication wasn’t a problem, “You communicated with love,” according to an article on his university’s website. And what he gave out, he got back, “ 34 ” Andrew’s first time as a volunteer only lasted a week, but by the end of that week, he knew he’d be back soon — because he saw love and hope.
US author Sherry Anderson once wrote, “ 35 ” And this is perhaps why volunteers all around the world keep doing what they do — their work is “priceless”.
A.It is in one of the poorest parts of the country.
B.You could see love when you looked in their eyes.
C.Volunteering means choosing to work without being paid.
D.It’s a chance for poor children to get better care and support.

I often help my mother do some housework at home, such as cooking, making bed and washing clothes and so on.
