Tourism has begun in Antarctica in the 1950s. It’s reported that about 40,000 tourists are about to visit it this season. However, people hold different views on whether humans should be allowed to land on this continent.
Some scientists are worried about the problems that tourists might cause to Antarctica. The environment might be destroyed, because tourists leave footprints and they all go to the same places--the coastline, which is also where animals in Antarctica live.
However, some people believe that if carefully controlled, tourism can be good for Antarctica.
