Florence, a 17-year-old senior student in high school, was busy composing (创作) a song. She plans to publish an album (音乐专辑) with three other music lovers whom she met at the 2016 Campus Singing Competition. Edward, 18, is another one of the four students to make their own album. Actually he was the one who came up with this fun idea in the first place.
“Everyone loves music. Being a good way to express our feelings and emotions, music can tell something about who we are and our experience of the world. We hope we can use our music to touch our peers (同龄人),” Edward said.
The album includes 15 songs on three themes-love, campus life and youth, with pop and electronic music styles. The inspiration for the songs came from the students’ lives. Take the song Sea of Tranquility for example—it was written by Edward during a flight back to Chengdu after he took part in the China High School Biology Olympiad in summer. “The sky is clear and the ground looks small from the plane. This scene makes me feel calm and peaceful,” Edward explained.
The songs were created one by one with the efforts of the four writers. But a challenge soon appeared. The students found that they didn’t have enough money to produce the album. So to cut down their costs, they used an iPad and headphones to record the songs in an empty classroom on the weekend.
Apart from reducing their costs, they also tried to raise money through crowdfunding on the Internet. They raised more than 7,000 dollars before the album was published in October. “Thanks to all the supporters, we’ll keep working on our own music,” Edward said.
    4. Why did Edward and his music team make the album?
    A. To earn money. B. To be famous.
    C. To influence young people. D. To make friends.
    5. What can we know about the songs from the album?
    A. They were written by Edward.
    B. They are based on students’ lives.
    C. They are quite different in style.
    D. They are mainly about friendship.
    6. What problem did the students have in producing the album?
    A. They were short of money.
    B. They disagreed on the theme.
    C. They received stress from teachers.
D They had poor abilities to make music.
    7. What’s the best title of the text?
    A. Album Collections. B. Student Musicians.
    C. Theme Music. D. School Life.
    【答案】4. C 5. B 6. A 7. B

A new study, a project of the researchers from the University of Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania, finds that a fitness tracker (健康追踪器) probably does not help with weight loss.
The trackers are designed to record your physical activity. They are usually worn around the wrist (手腕), where they record a person's heart rate. The research team looked at two groups of people. The first wore a fitness tracker and took part in health consultation with experts for best weight loss plan. The researchers compared this group with people who only got health consultation.
The study found that those only speaking with the health experts lost nearly 6 kilograms, but those using a fitness tracker lost only 3.5 kilograms. John Jakicic the lead researcher, questioned the use of these trackers for weight loss.
The study involved 470 people age between 18 and 35. Some of them were overweight, while others were considered obese. Over three fourths of them were women. All were told to increase physical activity and start on a low-calorie diet. They had their weight measured once every six months. After six months, researchers divided the group into two parts: one continued with monthly consulting, while members of the other group were given a fitness tracker. Eighteen months later, both groups showed great improvements in fitness, physical activity and diet, with no big difference between groups. However, when it came to losing weight, the people who only spoke with experts lost nearly twice as much weight.
Jakicic said, “The study's findings are important because effective long-term treatments are needed to deal with America's obesity.”More information is needed, he added, to learn how to best use these trackers to help adults who want to lose weight.
    12. Both groups of people in the study were asked to .
    A. start on a high-calorie diet. B. wear a fitness tracker
    C. consult experts D. record their heart rates
    13. Why does Jakicic think the findings are important?
    A. Wearing fitness trackers hardly helps people lose weight.
    B. Physical activity and diet have no effect on weight loss.
    C. Dealing with obesity needs effective long-term treatments.
    D. There are great differences in health between both groups.
14 What can we infer about the study mentioned in the text?
    A. The study went on for about two years.
    B. More than 120 men took part in the study.
    C. Health consulting helps lose almost 6 kilograms.
    D. Wearing a fitness tracker is useful for keeping slim.
    15. The purpose of the text is to .
    A. describe how the researchers carried out the study
    B. show regular consulting for weight control is necessary
    C. persuade readers to wear fitness trackers for weight control
    D. warn women are more likely to suffer from weight problems
    【答案】12. C 13. C 14. A 15. B

    第二节(满分25分)
    47. 阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
One morning, Ann’s neighbour Tracy found a lost dog wandering around the local elementary school. It was a beautiful dog, which attracted Tracy a lot. So Tracy thought the owner of the dog must have been worried about it and looked for it around, she was a warm-hearted woman, so she decided to help the lost dog. In no time, she asked Ann if she could keep an eye on the dog. Ann said that she could watch it only for the day.
Tracy took photos of the dog and printed off 400 FOUND flyers (传单), and put them in mailboxes. Meanwhile, Ann went to the dollar store and bought some pet supplies, warning her two sons not to fall in love with the dog. At the time, Ann’s son Thomas was 10 years old, and Jack, who was recovering from a heart operation, was 21 years old.
Four days later Ann was still looking after the dog, which they had started to call Riley. They began to love the dog, which was so clever and cute that every member of the family loved it. One day, when Ann arrived home from work, the dog threw itself against the screen door and barked madly at her. As soon as she opened the door, Riley dashed into the boys’ room where Ann found Jack suffering from a heart attack. Riley ran over to Jack, but as soon as Ann bent over to help him the dog went silent.
“If it hadn’t come to get me, the doctor said Jack would have died,” Ann reported to a local newspaper. At this point, no one had called to claim the dog, so Ann decided to keep it.
    Paragraph 1:
However, the next morning Tracy got a call.
    ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Peter drove to Ann’s house to pick up his dog,
    ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
    【答案】Paragraph 1:
However, the next morning Tracy got a call. A man named Peter had seen the flyer and recognized his lost dog. So he called the number on the flyer. Hearing this, Tracy started crying, and told him, “My friend’s son had a heart operation not long ago, and one day, he suffered a heart attack. It was the dog that saved my friend’s son.”
    Paragraph 2:
Peter drove to Ann’s house to pick up his dog, but saw Thomas and Jack crying in the window. The dog was very happy to see his owner again and dashed to him in no time. After a few moments, Peter said. “Maybe Odie was supposed to find you; maybe you should keep it. And I can come to see him at times.” Hearing this, everybody was wild with joy, and the dog wagged his tail, too.
Hearing this, Tracy started crying, and told him……;强调句It was the dog that saved my friend’s son.等高级句式。
