【Teaching Material】
This lesson is the 2nd class of Understanding ideas. Students have finished learning the passage The Well that Changed the World. They have known the story about what Ryan did to help solve the problem of water shortage in Africa. In this Period of the lesson, students will focus some language points and analyze some difficult sentences by exploring Ryan’s personalities based on his story. Through task-based reading activities, students are expected to improve their reading comprehension by analyzing the sentence structures, and using words and expressions correctly, so that they can better explore the meaning of the topic.
【Learning Objectives】
At the end of the class, I will be able to :
- better understand the structure of Ryan’s story and his personal qualities
- think about qualities of heroes and give a reasonable explanation based on the content of the class.
- talk about people making a difference by using Key words and expressions correctly and better explore the meaning of the topic.
【Learning Procedure】
Activity 1: Lead- in
Mind map: Fill in the blanks to finish the summary of the passage The Well that Changed the World .
Activity 2: Language focus
Part 1: Analyze sentences and some key words or expressions for better understanding.
Search for the evident sentences in the passage to answer the following question:
- What problem did Ryan help to solve?
- Why did Ryan want to help?
- Why did Ryan want to challenge himself to raise $2000 when he reached his first target of $70?
- What his attitude towards the target of $2000?

Write an essay on“The hero around me”logically with the help of Self and Peer Assessment Form for Class Presentation. Evaluate your own story based on the following elements:
* Do you have a clear structure?
* Do you make a clear description about his/her key actions to show his/her personal qualities?
* Do you end with how he or she makes a difference for you.
