It was June a few years ago right around the summer solstice, the longest day of the year.
A few weeks earlier, the first fireflies (萤火虫) had appeared blinking (眨眼) their lights on and off in the woods around my house. What a joy it was seeing them again. Their little flickers (闪烁) of light made me smile with delight.
As the daylight was starting to fade. I saw out my window some of the neighborhood children attempting to catch the slow moving lightening insects. One of the girls went inside and came back with a clear glass bottle. After chasing a few without success, she finally caught a firefly inside it. All the other children gathered around to watch it flickering its light on and off inside the bottle. Soon darkness started to fall and the girl’s mom walked over to them and told them it was time to set the firefly free. One of the girls protested, but the mom explained that the firefly would die if left in the bottle. Then she said something that still stays in my heart to this day, “It is time to let this little guy go so it can share its light with the rest of the world!”
I think we may share our light with the rest of the world, We may give our love to others. We may keep shining. I remember when I was a child we all used to sing the song, “This little light of mine, I’m going to let it shine!” But as adults we find it hard to do so. We stay at the darkness too much and hide our light in fear. Don’t hide your light. Don’t keep it in a bottle. Share your flickers, no matter how small they may be. Let the love inside you out. Let the light within you drive the darkness away.

2.What did the girl want to do with the firefly?
A.Keep it in the container. B.Let it free in no time.
C.Feed it with leaves. D.Kill it with water.
3.Which of the following best describes the girl’s mother?
    A.Kind. B.Calm. C.Demanding. D.Casual.
4.Why did the author mention the song in the last paragraph?
A.To show us his innocent years.
B.To warn us not to hurt insects.
C.To tell his childhood in summer.
D.To express his thought of sharing love.

Olly Neal grew up in Arkansas. He didn’t care much for high school. One day during his senior year, he cut class and walked into the school library. He discovered a book written by Frank Yerby. The book was The Treasure of Pleasant Valley and it attracted Neal’s attention. But there was one problem — if Neal took the book to the check out counter (收银台), his friends would know he was reading books.
“Then my fame (名誉) would be down,” Neal said. “I wanted them to know that all I could do was fight and cuss (咒骂).” Finally, Neal decided to steal the book.
A week later, Neal had finished the book. He brought it back to the library. But when he put it back, there was another book by Yerby. He took it as well. The same thing happened again. He read four of Yerby’s books that term — checking out none of them.
But Neal’s sneaky action turned out not to have been so sneaky after all. Attending his 13-year high school get-together, Neal met the school’s librarian, Mildred Grady. She saw Neal take that book. She said, “My first thought was to call him out, and then I realized what his situation was. So I decided that if Neal was showing an interest in books, I would find another one for him and put it in the same place where the one he had taken was.”
This was not an easy matter, because Frank Yerby’s books were not especially available. But the woman’s efforts paid off: Neal went on to attend law school and later became a great judge. When Grady died, Neal told the story and he said, “I thank Mrs. Grady for helping me get into the habit of enjoying reading, so that I was able to go to law school and survive.”
5.Why did Neal steal the book instead of checking it out?
A.To prove he was a skillful thief.
B.To show the book to his friends.
C.To keep being known as a troublemaker.
D.To avoid communicating with the librarian.
6.What does the underlined word “sneaky” in Paragraph 4 probably mean?
    A.Secret. B.Dangerous. C.Brave. D.Illegal.
7.How did Mrs. Grady influence Neal?
A.She taught Neal how to survive.
B.She persuaded Neal to be honest.
C.She encouraged Neal to study law.
D.She helped Neal develop reading habits.
8.What’s the best title for the text?
    A.Reading changes people’s life
    B.A librarian changed a boy’s life
C.A senior student became a judge
    D.Frank Yerby’s books attracted a boy

For Chinese students nowadays, no matter what kind of schools they’re going to, they have to face the problem of learning English. All examinations they want to pass require them to pass English. Examinations for entering further education, studying abroad and even graduating from college require scores in English examinations. English has become the most popular course in tutorial classes and even in the self-study classroom.
When nearly all students’ attention is focused on English, looking at the situation of our mother language, even Chinese linguists get confused about its use. Not only have many new words and phrases which are very popular on the Internet started to fill in every corner of the society, but common use of Chinese is full of mistakes and misunderstandings.
Under such urgent situation for the Chinese language, it’s time for every Chinese person to start protecting our mother tongue.
Chinese has the most speakers of any world language and also is one of the oldest in history. Around the world, many countries have started learning Chinese and Chinese has become one of the most important foreign languages in some foreign countries. Besides, there are 282 Confucius institutions in 88 countries and regions in the world that are teaching Chinese. The number of people learning Chinese is about 50 million outside China.
For those foreigners that are so crazy about Chinese language, what kind of attitude should the Chinese have? Honestly speaking, learning English itself shouldn’t be criticized, and we need to learn English to communicate with the world to show our culture and society.
However, it doesn’t make any sense that the importance of Chinese is replaced by a foreign language in a native’s mind. It’s really time to protect our Chinese language! Are you ready?
9.Which of the following best describes the main idea of the passage?
A.Language study is a problem of the world.

B.great changes have taken place in Chinese
C.they could not understand network vocabulary
D.there are too many mistakes and misunderstandings
11.The writer describes the situation of English in China so as to________.
    A.explain how popular English is
    B.prove the importance of English
C.remind us to concern the situation of Chinese
D.encourage us to use Chinese rather than English
12.According to the passage, we should learn English to ________.
A.introduce our culture and society to the world
    B.build more Confucius institutions abroad

Pickled sides are Chinese people’s solution to tasteless food. Just a spoonful of sauce or pickled vegetables over rice can make a meal taste a million times better.
During busy work schedules, many young people in China don’t have the luxury of enjoying insightful conversations with friends and family at the dinner table. Instead, they find themselves eating alone.
Chinese youth are kept company during these 20-to-30-minute windows by TV shows or short videos, which they stream on their phone, tablet, or television. On the Internet, such content has been called “digital pickled vegetables”.
Some popular picks include classic Chinese dramas and situation comedies (sitcoms) like Empresses in the Palace and My Own Swordsman. American sitcoms such as Friends and How I Met Your Mother are also favored for their amusing jokes and simple story lines. You don’t need to know anything about either to get a good laugh from a random episode.
Some have questioned the value of such videos, pointing out that some explainers ruin good films and books and that no-brainer mini-series aren’t informational. On the other hand, we see nothing wrong with some harmless fun to accompany a lonely meal after a long day of work. Instead of being accompanied by friends and family during meal my young people in China are kept company by TV shows or short videos.
Can this habit affect your diet? According to a research paper published in 2019, you may eat more unconsciously. An international research team asked 62 volunteers to follow different eating patterns on four different days. The patterns included eating while looking at the mobile phone, reading magazines and without distraction (分心). After analyzing their diets, the team discovered that eating with a distraction increased intake of calories by about 15 percent.
To explore the reason, the team also invited two groups of people: one group ate while listening to a recording about another person eating and the other listened to a clip that helped them imagine themselves eating. The results showed that the second group ate less since they were more focused on their meals. When eating with the “digital pickles”, our attention can be distracted, which leads to eating more than expected.
13.Why do many Chinese young people eat alone?
A.They hate to share food with workmates. B.They fail to have the luxury of dining space.
C.They tend to have busy work timetables. D.They prefer not to talk with strangers.
14.What do the underlined words “digital pickled vegetables” mean in paragraph 3?
A.Videos you watch while eating. B.Sauce you choose while eating.
C.Vegetables you like while eating. D.Games you play while eating.
15.Why do we eat more with “digital pickles”?
A.They increase our feeling of hunger. B.They make the food more delicious.
C.They draw our attention to the diet. D.They shift our attention from the meals.

重要的一部分”短语为be a big part of。 故填a。
故填who/that。

故填to help。

故将my改为his/him。

The festival is scheduled to start next Friday, lasting for two days.
The festival is scheduled to start next Friday, which will last for two days.
