For the past three decades, Du Dengwen has been one of the few connections between residents in the depths of Huping Mountain and the outside world. His presence always brings joy to the mountain residents, because it means letters or parcels of huge sentimental or practical value are coming their way.

Huping Mountain is characterized by deep valleys and hundreds of dangerous peaks. Yet, many villages are scattered across the mountainous area. The complex landscape had deterred efforts to build roads and lay down communication cables.

A round trip to cover all the villages runs about 180 km, and the only thing Du Dengwen could fall back on before 2017 was a bicycle that the post station offered. Evenso, two villages could only be accessed over rugged roads, upon which Du had to walk.He had to climb steep mountain ladders, cross suspension bridges(吊桥)and thread his way through narrow and dangerous trails.

Du's families were concerned about his safety and they advised him to find another job. But he had clearly developed a close bond with the local villagers and refused to give up his challenging job. Although his salary is not much, he has generously lent a helping hand to some villagers to get through difficult situations on his way to deliver the mail. Du's acts of kindness and generosity have not only endeared him to the mountain villagers but also earned their trust and respect. Many locals have come to see him as a pillar(支柱)of strength in their life.

To Du's relief, things have been picking up in recent years, as the country is pushing for rural vitalization strategy and overall promotion of new rural construction. Well-paved roads have been built to connect most of the villages off the beaten tracks in Shimen county. For those who lived too deep in the woods, they have been relocated to places with easy access to public transportation. He himself has benefited from the positive changes taking place in the rural areas. His old transportation, the bike, has also become history.

4What does the underlined word "_____" mean in paragraph 2?

A.Brought out.  B. Turned around. C. Held back. D.Gone through.

5What is paragraph 3 mainly about?

    A. The difficulties he met when delivering.

    B. The significance of his delivering mails.

    C. The description of the villages he served for.

D.The transportation offered by the post station.

6What is the reason for Du's refusal to leave his position?

    A. The high income of delivering mails.

    B. His trust in and respect for the locals.

C.The connection between him and the locals.

D.The generous help from the local government.

7What has made Du's old bike a past thing?

    A. The relocation of post station. B. The growth of rural construction.

    C. The building of railway tracks.  D. The development of urban economy.

Geo-tracking apps such as Find My Kids and Google Family Link are fast growing in popularity, handing parents powers to monitor their children. But how are the latter experiencing what previous generations might have la-belled as an invasion of their privacy? Could these devices even hurt youths' sense of independence?

We set out to answer these questions in our research, which involved a series of one-on-one interviews with parents who geo-tracked their children, and teenagers who were geo-tracked.

Overall, the parents who took part in our survey claimed they were driven to use these apps not by nosiness(多管闲事),but a sense of care in the face of what they perceived as dangerous or uncertain environments. Knowing a child's geographical position cannot guarantee their safety when faced with an incident in real time, but checking where they are can help ease parental fears. Other parents surveyed admitted to monitoring their children only in the case of unanswered phone calls or unfulfilled requests. Rather than a systematic method of monitoring, geo-tracking acted as a "last resort" option after parents failed to reach their children.

While some teenagers were sympathetic to their parents' anxieties, most of them perceived the use of geo-tracking apps as an invasion of their privacy. When seen as a tool to contact, geo-tracking appeared to be quite well accepted by them in our survey. However, most teenagers in our sample were worried about their parents' use of monitoring apps.

Geo-tracking is not without its ill effect on family relationships. Xavier, for instance, said that discovering he was being tracked has profoundly weakened the trust between him and his father. Furthermore, tensions among parents and children may also arise, thus widening the gap between them. Geographical monitoring also directly challenges young people's need to go into the world independently, both holding back teenage autonomy and generating tensions in parent-child relationships.

8Why are the two questions raised for Geo-tracking apps in paragraph 1?

    A. To display their function.

    B. To indicate their intelligence.

    C. To show the worry about privacy.

    D. To describe parents' magic power.

9What makes parents adopt Geo-tracking apps to monitor their kids?

    A. Their desire to monitor their kids. B. Their concern for their kids' safety.

    C. Their eagerness to reach their kids. D. Their curiosity about their kids' life.

10What is most teenagers' attitude towards the monitoring from apps?

    A.Critical. B.Confused. C.Indifferent. D. Mixed.

11What is the impact of Geo-tracking on family ties?

A.It can make children more dependent.

    B. It may badly influence family relationship.

C.It may relieve the tension within the family.

D.It can increase children's trust in their parents.

When floods destroyed Bangkok more than a decade ago, Thai landscape architect Voraakhom became determined to help her sinking hometown fight this deadly climate threat. "For us, climate change is primarily a water crisis," she said.

The architect integrates nature and water into her designs to create landscapes that help ease flooding and add greenery to densely populated cities. To date, Thailand has tried to tackle its flooding problem by building higher and higher dams. She said, arguing that this is the wrong approach and a solution based on fear, "the central question sinking cities like Bangkok need to focus on is how we are going to live with the water, without fear."

One of Voraakhom's most innovative designs is Centenary Park, which stores large amounts of rainwater and prevents the surrounding streets from flooding. Voraakhomalso created Asia's largest rooftop farm, Siam Green Sky, which recycles food waste from restaurants in the building below and uses it as plant fertilizer. The farm also slows down and stores large amounts of rainwater. Inspired by Thailand's traditional agricultural practices, the architect created a landscape which allows rainwater to pour into the her bgardens.

A research fellow at the Stockholm Environment Institute, Diane Archer said, "For Voraakhom's urban green spaces, not only are they designed to tackle flooding by acting as water storage spaces, but they contribute to cleaning the air and providing essential green oases in our concrete jungle, so important for mental and physical health. Even at a small scale, these parks are beneficial to the residents, and we could do with more."

Voraakhom's designs and the lessons are now expanding beyond Thailand. "Green, climate-adapted areas are a good long-term investment for cities," she said, "and the best solution for the next generation."

12How does Voraakhom help cities with a large population to address flooding?

A.By building higher and higher dams.

B.By countering the fear of residents.

    C. By painting landscapes for the cities.

D.By using nature and water in her design.

13What is food waste in Siam Green Sky used to do?

    A. To store rainwater. B. To fertilize herb gardens.

    C. To create a landscape. D. To be recycled by restaurants.

14What does Archer think of Voraakhom's designs?

    A. They benefit the health of citizens.

    B. They discover green oases in cities.

C.They become the biggest air cleaner.

    D. They increase concrete storage in cities.

15What is the best title for the text?

    A. Agricultural practices in Thailand

    B. Thailand's efforts in tackling flooding

    C. The work principle of the rooftop farm

    D. An architect helping sinking cities fight flooding

Anger is a negative reaction, but in this type of situation, there is no value in reacting by forming positive thoughts._____This way, your anger will not get the emotional food it needs to survive.

Don't take the easy way when you get angry. We all get tempted to throw something, hit something, or scream when we are angry. Returns

When I saw my mother at her home last month, it was a hot Sunday. I travelled there by train. As the train reduced its speed, I knew I was going to see her.

Leaving the station, I headed to the town center where I bought cakes—the kind she used to tell me to bring home. And I bought a cat, which I think can accompany her for along time. Until I got home, I didn't think anything besides, I'm going to see her again and she's waiting for me.

I knocked on the narrow door of the ground-floor apartment. She called out, "Yes. Come in!" "You should lock the door!" "I knew it was you. There's no one else it could have been."

When she saw the cat, she was very pleased as if it were my kid. She took the cakes, a little uneasy, but thanked me with a happy tone to her voice. That's because she had already bought some for us on her way back home.

She was laughing, standing by the table. She put her hand on my shoulder, tilting her face up for me to kiss. At the same time, she was firing off questions about my trip, my children, my husband, my work...

We sat opposite each other at the table that, along with the meal she had already prepared for me, almost filled her apartment. She bought it big—it can seat at least ten people! But in six years, not once...

After meal, she tried to come up with more subjects of conversation, so that I wouldn't go too soon, leaving her alone with her desire for me, her longing to live with me, her daughter, forever. Meanwhile, the cat approached us, which kept us busy for along time—watching it, taking turns holding it... My mother was the happiest she'd been since I got home. She seemed to have forgotten that I was going to leave.

    注意:续写部分分为两段,每段的开头语已为你写好。

It's time for me to say goodbye to her.
