Next time you’re having trouble solving a tricky puzzle, consider asking a nearby bumblebee.
A new study in the journal PLOS Biology finds that these humble insects can actually learn to solve puzzles from one another, suggesting that even some invertebrates (无脊椎动物) like these social insects have a capacity for what we humans call “culture.”
“These creatures are really quite incredible. They’re really good at learning despite having these tiny brains,” says Alice Bridges, a behavioral ecologist at Anglia Ruskin University in England.
“In the past couple of decades, a growing body of evidence has shown that animals like chimps and birds show evidence of culture, by which we really mean just that animals learn from each other.” says Andy Whiten, a cognitive ethologist (认知动物行为学家) who studies wild animal minds at the University of St Andrews in Scotland.
“Nobody’s really thought to look at it in invertebrates before,” says Bridges. She set out to prove them wrong. “Basically, I built it out of Petri dishes,” she says. The base of the Petri dish held the reward: a drop of super sweet sugar water. Bridges cut a small hole in the lid “to form a rotating (旋转) top that can be spun by pushing either on this red tab clockwise (顺时针) or the blue tab anti-clockwise.”
She trained some bees to head-butt the red tab to get the sugar water and trained others to push the blue tab. Then, Bridges placed these tutor bees inside different colonies, along with the puzzle boxes.
The experiment showed that in colonies where the tutor bee had originally learned to push the red tab, the other bees in the colony usually pushed the red tab. In colonies where the tutor bee was trained to push the blue tab, their fellow bees tended to do the same.
“We found that the behaviors spread among the colonies,” she says, “They copied the behavior of demonstrators even when occasionally they discovered that they could do the alternative.”

Walking doesn’t require any special equipment or gym memberships, and best of all, it’s completely free. For most of us, walking is something we do automatically. It doesn’t require much effort, so many of us fail to remember the benefits of walking for health.
But what happens if we stop walking on auto-pilot and start challenging our brains and bodies by walking backwards? Not only does this change of direction require more of our attention, but it may also bring additional health benefits.
One of the most well-studied benefits of walking backwards is improving stability and balance. Walking backwards can improve forward gait (how a person walks) and balance for healthy adults and those with knee osteoarthritis (关节炎). Walking backwards causes us to take shorter, more frequent steps, leading to improved muscular endurance for the muscles of the lower legs while reducing the burden on our joints.
While normal walking can help us maintain a healthy weight, walking backwards may be even more efficient. Energy expenditure (消耗) when walking backwards is almost 40 percent higher than walking at the same speed forwards, with one study showing reductions in body fat for women who completed a six-week backwards walk or run training program.
Walking backwards is simple, but that doesn’t mean it’s easy. When walking backwards, we’re more likely to miss block that we could crash into or fall over, so in the interest of safety, it’s best to start indoors where you will not crash into someone or outside in a flat, open area. Keep your head and chest upright while reaching back with your big toe for each step, rolling through the foot from toe to heel.
5.What can we learn about walking from the first paragraph?
A.Its cost is surprisingly high. B.Its training equipment is rare.
C.Its advantages are often ignored. D.Its benefits are partly unknown.
6.What benefit does walking backwards bring to legs?

7.Who is most likely to practice walking backwards according to paragraph 4?
A.A man eager to lose weight. B.An athlete trained to run faster.
C.A fat woman suffering illness. D.A teenager unable to concentrate.
8.What is the last paragraph mainly about?
A.The difficulty in walking backwards. B.The danger of walking backwards.
C.Some tips about walking backwards. D.Right places for walking backwards.
Yogita Dighe works as a salesperson at an electronics store in Aundh, an upmarket neighbourhood in Pune, India’s ninth-largest city.
Even though she has a comfortable job, Dighe used to be filled with uneasiness at the thought of having to use the store’s toilet. It is a unisex space shared by customers and staff, and is “constantly dirty” owing to overuse, being cleaned only once every day.
A year ago, Dighe discovered a “Ti bus” (“ti” means “her” in Marathi) —a restroom inside a decommissioned bus, parked about five minutes away from her workplace. Since then, she’s used it regularly. Cleaned after every use, the toilets within the bus “feel nice and fresh”.
Currently, 12 decommissioned city buses in Pune have been turned into restrooms by SaraPlast, a private sanitation (卫生设备) company. Each solar-powered bus toilet comes with a full-time female attendant and can be accessed either free of charge or for a fee of 5 rupees, affordable even for low-income women. Showers, breastfeeding and baby-changing stations, and drinking water are all included in the buses to meet the needs of every woman.
A kiosk (小摊棚) selling masks and juices has been set up on one side of the bus, making it a sustainable business. Ads on the bus also bring in profits, which go towards water supply, electricity, repairs and the salary of the attendant who cleans and maintains the restroom from 8 a. m. to 8 p. m.
“Every person, whether rich or poor, should have access to a good, clean toilet,” SaraPlast states, “A public bus goes out of service after 15 years in India. Transforming it into the restroom extends its life by up to two decades, aside from the social service it offers.” This concept was so well received that other cities are following in Pune’s footsteps.

A.Advanced. B.Damaged. C.Soiled. D.Retired.
11.What does the “Ti bus” provide?
A.Car repairing service. B.Dish washing products.
C.Baby caring facilities. D.Phone charging stations.
12.Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
A.The Restroom on Wheels for Females. B.The Extra Function of New City Buses.
C.The Project of Defending Human Rights. D.The Company Offering Cleaning Items.

Blue whales eat up to 10 million pieces of microplastic every day, research estimated Tuesday, suggesting that the pollution causes a bigger danger to the world’s largest animal than previously thought.
A US-led research team put tags on 191 blue whales that live off the coast of California to observe their movements. “It’s basically like an Apple Watch, just on the back of a whale,” said Shirel Kahane-Rapport, a researcher at California State University, Fullerton, and the study’s first author.
The whales mostly fed at depths of between 50 to 250 meters, which is home to the “greatest concentration of microplastics in the sea,” Kahane-Rapport said. The researchers then estimated the size and number of mouthfuls the whales had daily, modeling three different situations. Under the most likely situation, the blue whales ate up to 10 million microplastic pieces a day. Over the 90 to 120 days’ annual feeding season, which represents more than a billion pieces a year.
The largest animal ever to live on Earth is also likely the biggest microplastic consumer, eating up to 43.6 kilograms a day, the study said. While it is easy to imagine whales sucking (吞没) in vast amounts of microplastics as they ate, the researchers found that was not the case.
Instead, 99 percent of the microplastics entered the whales because they were already inside their prey (猎物). “That’s concerning for us,” Kahane-Rapport said, because humans eat that prey. “We also eat sardines,” she said, adding that “krill (磷虾) is the basis of the food web.” “Previous research has shown that if krill is in a tank with microplastic, they will eat it,” Kahane-Rapport said.
Now that the researchers know how much microplastic is being consumed by whales, next they aim to determine how much harm it could be doing. “The quantity defines the poison,” Kahane-Rapport said.
16.Why is a tag placed on the back of the whales?
A.It can treat the illness of whales. B.It can track the living of whales.
C.It can ensure the safety of whales. D.It can record the danger of whales.
17.How do the researchers show their findings in the study?
A.By providing data. B.By giving examples. C.By explaining the reason. D.By expressing their guess.
18.Which of the following may Kahane-Rapport agree with?
A.The research process was very complicated. B.The whales live in the area free from pollution.
C.Most microplastics entered the whales directly. D.Humans may eat microplastics through their diet.
19.What can we infer about the study from the last two paragraphs?
A.It will be highly profitable. B.It will be further conducted.
C.It will involve food poison. D.It will help whales avoid risk.
Coming of age is that time in each of our lives when we begin to see the possibilities. The world opens up in ways that mature our vision and give us a sense of responsibility and gratefulness. Connor had just started college and loved being at that stage in his life where he could eat all the pizza he wanted, yet engage in adult conversations with his parents about the responsibility to make life better for others. Connor’s optimism was infectious. There was so much he could do, and so much he could become.
But it all ended one night when Connor was distracted while driving on a Colorado highway. A young man, who gave off so much light, suddenly went dark.
Connor’s father, David, took it particularly hard.A father sees more than his own traits(性格) in his son; he sees greater possibilities than he achieved. Taking that hope away left David feeling at a loss. But Connor ‘s optimism was one of those traits passed on to him by his father. So, David got to work.
First, he established the Honor Connor Scholarship Fund to reward students who served in the community, Next, he went to work creating a research-based curriculum that educates University of Colorado Boulder students and their families about the dangers of texting while driving. It includes a very simple three part promise: Do not text or use social media while driving, speak out if riding with a driver who is distracted and encourage friends and family to drive phone-free.
David now works with lecturers at various colleges’ and high schools, ensuring young minds understand how statistically at risk they are when they text while driving. He’s become a passionate advocate for preparing young people to drive safely and not reach for their phones while they’re at the wheel. “I just don’t want other parents to go through what I did when I lost Connor,” says David. “It’s just so preventable.”
20.What’s the purpose of paragraph 1?
A.To give the background of a funny story.
B.To explain why David chose to volunteer.
C.To set off David’s great pain of losing his son.
D.To sing high praise for Connor’s healthy growth.
21.What happened to Connor on a Colorado highway?
A.The headlight of his car went wrong.
B.He drove carelessly and died in an accident.
C.He suffered an accident for his father’s fault.
D.He died from another driver’s careless driving.
22.From whom did Connor get the positive attitude towards life?
A.His coach. B.His grandfather. C.His teacher. D.His father.
23.Why did David work with lecturers under a research-based curriculum?
A.He wanted to take a job in a college.
B.He took the classes that Connor hadn’t finished.
C.He wanted to prevent similar sad stories repeating.
D.He honored Connor for what he had done in the community.

I want to send you all a quick email and express my feelings about school this rainy Monday morning. I can not say enough about the experiences that my 3 kids are having at Goshen Post! It has been such an amazing start to the school year. They all come home filledwith enthusiasm and excitement about what they have been doing at school and the PBls that involve them.
I’d like to share with you a story of my two daughters using PBL this weekend—how my girls are applying what they are learning at school through a project while at home. With thevery rainy Sunday they were looking for things to do. Anderson wanted to go outside and jump in the muddy puddles(小水坑)! Wesley was excited about the idea too, so they headed outside to play. When they came back, Wesley explained to me that they noticed the rain was flowing and filling all of the storm drains(排水管) in the front paths of our street. This is where the PBL comes in!
They turned this little observation into a project, and came up with a plan to figure outwhere the water was coming from, why it was flowing the way that it was, and where it ended. They asked us to drive them down the street to see where it started and where it ended so that they could record this information. They then came up with their own theories, headed home and wrote about it on Wesley’s new notebook. All of this took hours, filled theirafternoon, and created huge smiles on their faces and laughter between two sisters!
They have always been creative, but I can tell what you are doing at school is not only motivating them to be more creative, but giving them a framework on how to do it! Thank you !

Sharing a bed with a pet at night is a common feature of nighttime routines in the United States. According to a 2021 —2022 survey, 43 percent of pet dogs in the United States and 49 percent of pet cats sleep on their owner’s bed. When it comes to the perks of sharing your bed with your favourite furry friend, however, experts are divided.
First, it’s worth noting that the majority of research on the topic of co-sleeping with pets has focused on dogs rather than cats. Mark Fierstein, an internal medicine specialist at NYULangone Health in New York City, suggests this is because cats may want to play or even purposely wake up their owner. Rabbits or hamsters are also out of the question.
A benefit of sleeping with pets is that the practice may prevent loneliness, Fierstein says. “Often, people who co-sleep with pets report an increased sense of security, companionship, and relaxation,” he notes. “For some people, the dog’s warmth, steady heartbeat, and protective nature can make sleeping with them feel safe and cozy.” This may be especially true of people who are managing trauma (创伤) or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). LeslieSinn, a psychologist, says according to a survey, 60% of PTSD suffers feel calm down if they wake up to see the presence of the dog.
Some research suggests co-sleeping with pets may increase mid-night awakenings for people. “If the owner is a light sleeper, he or she may not do well with a dog or cat in the bedroom,”notes Fierstein. For example, he points out that a dog who snores (打呼噜) loudly is not an ideal sleeping mate.
Dogs may also show aggressive (好斗的) behaviour — such as biting. Allowing pets in the bedroom can also expose owners to potential allergens (过敏源), like pet hair, as well as viruses that cause disease.

Nearly 40 percent of Americans over the age of 65 take five or more different drugs, and doctors often simply have to monitor patients to see if any of those drugs combine to createnegative side effects. When a doctor prescribes(给……开药)a patient more than one drug atthe same time, they currently have no way to predict whether that combination of these drugswill have a negative side effect. A new system from a team of computer scientists at Stanford University presents a novel solution—an AI-driven computer system that can predict theconsequences of combining two drugs.
Drug combinations are a remarkably unstudied area, but as Marinka Zitnik explains, “It’spractically impossible to test a new drug in combination with all other drugs, because just forone drug that would be five thousand new experiments.” Besides, to maintain accuracy alsoneeds strict research procedures.
So Zitnik and her Stanford colleagues set out to find a solution to the problem. They created a massive deep learning system trained on data encompassing(包含)over l9,00 oproteins and how different drugs interact with those proteins. The system is called Decagon, and it can effectively predict the consequences of combining any two different drugs.
To test out Decagon’s predictive abilities the team examined 10 of the systems predicted drug pair interactions that didn’t have clearly known unfavourable interactions. The researchers found new supporting case study evidence backing up 8 of those 10 predictions. For example, one prediction from Decagon suggested muscle inflammation(炎症) would be caused by combining a certain cholesterol(胆固醇) drug with a blood pressure medication. This negative side effect of combining those two drugs was only recently confirmed by a casestudy published in 2017.
The next stage in the project is to try to turn Decagon into a more user-friendly tool thatdoctors can easily navigate(导航) for information when prescribing combinations of drugs, benefiting more people. At this stage, the system only evaluates(评估) drug pairs but there searchers hope to expand that into more complex combinations of drugs in the future.
35.What problem faces doctors when prescribing several drugs together?
A.They can’t prevent side effects of drugs.
B.They don’t know the bad influences of the combination.
C.They have to monitor whether patients will take drugs.
D.They must predict the effects of drugs with an Al system.
36.Why is the area of drug combinations almost unstudied?
A.They require numerous experiments.
B.They are not that important to people.
C.It’s rather expensive to do the research.
D.It’s impossible to keep results accurate.
37.What can we know about Decagon?
A.It can predict influences of combining three drugs.
B.It wouldn’t contribute to people’s deep learning.
C.It can tell the results of combining two drugs.
D.It analyses how proteins interact with each other.
38.Which aspect will researchers work on in the future?
A.Making the system availa ble to more people.
B.Improving some critical functions of the system.
C.Enhancing people’s recognition on its accuracy.
D.Adopting a more friendly attitude toward patients.
Scientists have recently discovered the world’s largest known field of sea grass. They did it using videos shot by some extraordinary helpers. The work should help protect the sea grass, and also shows off a powerful way to explore the ocean.
As a shelter for many sea creatures, sea grasses are flowering plants that normally grow in shallow waters near coasts. They grow in thick fields, known as seagrass meadows (海草床), which help clean the ocean water. More importantly, they are called “ocean lung”. They help in the fight against the climate crisis. That’s because they store huge amounts of carbon—the major source of global warming. Damaging these seagrass meadows can release this pollutant again, making things worse.
Considering the urgent need to protect seagrass meadows, scientists are eager to know about their size and number. However, the meadows can be hard to spot from above, either because the water is too deep or not clear enough. And the ocean is so huge that it’s hard to study them by diving. So scientists decided to have tiger sharks help the research.
Tiger sharks are inborn fast swimmers, and spend a lot of time in seagrass meadows. Between 2016 and 2020, the researchers attached cameras and other trackers to the fins of seven tiger sharks, and then let them go again. The cameras were designed to fall off after hours and float to the surface. Tracking signals helped find the floating cameras and collect the videos the sharks had taken while traveling for miles. Moreover, other tools were used, including satellite images, as well as images taken by divers and boats.
Putting all this information together, the scientists learned that the waters around the Bahamas are home to the largest seagrass meadow ever discovered. And the meadows cover at least 25,500 square miles, and could be as large as 35,500 square miles.
Different from previous studies, the program discovers how useful large underwater animals can be in helping to learn more about life under the sea. Oliver Shipley, a scientist from the team, says animals like tiger sharks are going to take us to new places that we didn’t know existed.
39.Why do seagrass meadows urgently need protection?
A.Damaging them will worsen climate crisis.
B.They determine the cleanliness of ocean water.
C.Sea creatures can’t survive without their shelter.
D.Their existence balances the underwater ecosystem.
40.How did tiger sharks help the scientific research?
A.By tracking signals scientists sent.
B.By bringing back cameras with videos.
C.By carrying the recording equipment around.
D.By spending a lot of time in seagrass meadows.

A bright and impressive bus carrying fresh local produce appeared in a community of North Carolina in June 2022. It was the first pay-what-you-can Mobile Market. As the name implies, shoppers could pay any price out of their own will. Even the suggested price was about 25% less than that offered in grocery stores. This market gave shoppers a dignified way to provide food for their families regardless of their budget.
Seeing the joy in shoppers’ eyes, Will Komegay, the founder of this non-profit program—Mobile Market, felt a sense of accomplishment. He had once witnessed a wasteful and unfortunate reality. At that time, countless pounds of food had to be thrown away by farmers due to the interruption in the supply chain. Meanwhile, millions of people were struggling to afford enough food to feed their families. Kornegay didn’t want to stand by.
With much working experience in food industry and background about how food system was designed, Kornegay decided to use his company’s vast network of farmer and food industry relationships to address the issue. His team used buses to bridge the farmers, the food industries and communities that needed food most. Thousands of pounds of food that was sourced from local partners was placed into homes.
Kornegay still remembered how the first Mobile Market came into being. His team made a detailed plan and chose the colors and images they preferred. Then they purchased a “retired” school bus and renovated it, giving it a new different look and equipping it with refrigerators and freezers. Thus was born the first Mobile Market.
To date, the project has partnered with dozens of local farmers and food producers and has already served an estimated 10,000 families over 150,000 pounds of food. In 2023, the team hope to serve 80 sites across 20 counties in Eastern North Carolina. Their vision is to perfect the project where they live, and scale into every state nationwide.
43.What is the purpose of the Mobile Market?
A.To boost the income of local residents.
B.To promote sales in local grocery stores.
C.To raise money for the family with a tight budget.
D.To enable people to buy food at an affordable price.

C.It will become a new economic trend. D.It is estimated to provide worldwide service.
Imagine you live in your green dream home: extremely energy-saving, beautiful, cozy and perfectly satisfatory. Maybe you are picturing such a brand new smart house, but actually you can redecorate your current house with green concept in a simple way.
Wright Rudy, a builder and energy-efficiency expert who has done a number of home designs, says you can save more energy than you might think. He helps homeowners get energy savings of up to 75 percent when he’s able to rework a house perfectly. A series of energy-saving designs in one neighborhood has been done to cut some homes’ energy use in half, resulting in an average cost savings of $100 per month on energy bills.
If you’re doing a major home upgrade, you can go further and add solar design features to improve your home’s natural heating and cooling. Wright suggests you bring both pleasant living space and heat to your home by adding a sunroom. This strategy makes full use of solar energy.
Similarly, cooling issues can be addressed by improving natural ventilation. Instead of using the traditional way — ceiling fans, Wright suggests careful arrangements of windows and skylights as one option. Skylights are terrific because they’re located at a high point in the room, which allows warm air to rise out while cooler outdoor air comes in through an open window.
Wright says green concept for homes is the wave of the future. “I believe that within the next few years we needn’t bum fuels inside our houses any more. Our designs are cost-effective and environmentally safe. In this sense, our designs will surely address the future. Realistically, we need to be planning for that now.”
47.What do Wright’s designs feature?
A.Modem style. B.Recyclable materials.
C.Smart equipment. D.Energy-saving concept.
48.How can cooling problems be settled according to Wright?
A.By turning on ceiling fans. B.By building some sunrooms.
C.By replacing windows with skylights. D.By locating windows and skylights properly.
49.What is Wright’s attitude to the future of the green homes?
A.Confident. B.Concerned. C.Uncertain. D.Critical.
50.Which of the following is the best title for the text?

The Roman Colosseum( 罗马圆形大剧场), built around two thousand years ago, survived a 14th century earthquake and most of the 150-some foot high building is still standing. It has seen the rise and fall of enormous structures as well as the Roman Empire. Why could the ancient structure stand the test of time while many modern constructions fall apart after a few decades? Scientists believe the ancient Romans used a specific concrete which may account for its super-long existence.
Previous discoveries have confirmed the components of the Roman concrete: volcanic material, limestone (石灰石) and water. Architects suppose the volcanic material is what makes the building strong—which it does. But this is not enough to explain the architecture’s durability. A team of researchers recently discovered a magical power of the Roman concrete: self-healing. And the key actually lies in the tiny pieces of limestone. Worth mentioning is that researchers had taken them as impurities (杂质) due to the limitation of ancient technology. But it turned out that ancient Romans seemed to have discovered the secret.
When the Romans made the mixture, they heated up the limestone to turn it into quicklime, a very reactive chemical. Quicklime reacted with water and produced heat that set up a chemical foundation to strengthen the building material. Meanwhile, it would “wear” a hard “shell”, forming limestone pieces. It was these pieces that stopped the cracks (裂缝) from becoming bigger. When there was rain, the pieces reacted with water again, quickly filling the cracks.
For material scientist Ainissa Ramirez, this new understanding of ancient Roman concrete is a welcome discovery. “This is one way that the material can be greener,” says Ramirez, “The Romans made the material. We had to kind of figure out how they did it so that we can make better materials—and then, you know, in turn, be better guards of our environment.”

With a television career of over 60 years and known as Father of Nature Documentary, Sir David Attenborough has influenced the way we look at nature greatly.
As a nature lover, Attenborough built an impressive fossil collection at seven. Later, he set about creating shows such as Adventures series. After a huge success of his broadcasting career, he became the controller of BBC-2 in 1965. But soon Attenborough began to explore nature wholeheartedly and started the Natural History series, Life. He captured baby gorillas in Rwanda, which turned out to be a highlight in wildlife filmmaking, influencing a generation of future documentary makers.
Attenboroughs interest in the natural world was more than the animals in his programmes. In the 1990s, he began to work on The Private Life of Plants, a series that used amazing photography to show the way plants grew. He also shows interest in plants of the Great Barrier Reef. He has often spoken of the importance of saving this site of natural beauty from the dangers of climate change. He explains that if the temperature of our oceans continues to rise, the reef could be gone within years, and this would spell a global disaster.
In 2016, David Attenborough celebrated his 90th birthday and Britain celebrated the long career of a national treasure. Personally, however, he doesn’t have much time for the title:
“What does ‘national treasure’ mean?. . . Nothing. The problem is that you are praised for more wisdom than is the case—which is quite easy actually. People think you know everything, but of course you don’t!”
Despite entering his nineties, Attenborough doesn’t plan to retire anytime soon. “You’re never tired of the natural world. Putting your feet up is all very well, but it’s very boring, isn’t it?”
61.What keeps Attenborough devoted to making the nature documentary?
A.His interest in nature. B.His experience in Rwanda.
C.His desire for success. D.His academic background.
62.Which of the following can replace the underlined word “spell” in the paragraph 3?
A.Reduce. B.Prevent.
C.Survive. D.Indicate.
63.What can we infer about Attenborough from the text?
A.His retirement is very enjoyable.
B.His life and his career go together.
C.He looks down upon the given title.
D.He is too busy to receive the award.
Green is the new gold. As China is transitioning(转变)towards a greener development mode, low-carbon industries in the country have been boosting in recent years, which has led to more business opportunities for companies worldwide.
The new energy vehicle (NEV) industry is a fine illustration. Last year alone, China sold about 6.89 million NEVs, up 93.4 percent year on year. The market share of NEVs in China’s auto market reached 25.6 percent in 2022, up 12.1percentage points from 2021.
Domestically, China’s green transition is bringing a real change. Globally, it is also helping other countries to sustain green growth. “China is the largest supplier of solar energy equipment across the world and in Africa in particular,” said Ajay Mathur, director general of the International Solar Alliance. While noting that many solar panels and batteries being used in Africa are of Chinese origin, Mathur stressed China’s involvement and huge potential in terms of realizing Africa’s seeking for solar energy development. “There is the greatest link that exists between the Chinese manufacturers of solar energy technology and the African users of that technology,” he said.
Apart from African countries, China is also sharing its green development philosophy with many more countries across the globe. The Chilean capital of Santiago has been tapping electric vehicles from China as part of plans to improve its public transport system and advance clean travel.
While boosting development, maintaining biological diversity(生物多样性)is also important. For example, many tunnels were extended and roads are replaced by bridges to protect elephant habitats in the construction of the China-Laos Railway.
“The contribution of China’s green development to global sustainable development cannot be ignored, and it also sets an example for other countries’ green development,” said Abdulrahman Aldakhil, director of Corporate Communication of Saudi National Center for Vegetation Cover Development Combating Desertification. “China’s promotion of international cooperation to protect the environment is a reflection of its sense of responsibility,” he said, “China’s experience in green development is worth learning from.”

This is a story I wanted to share just to show how often things happen for a reason. And just by having a short conversation with a stranger can change the course of someone’s day. It brought me to tears and still does.
Yesterday my parents were heading off on a little holiday and I took them to the train station. Upon arrival it was pouring rain. I got their luggage out and helped them to the elevator and sent them on their way. As they were entering, an elderly man was exiting. We walked back to the entrance and I commented to him I hoped he had arrangements to get where he needed to go. He was going to wait 30 minutes for the bus. I asked where he was going and it turned out that he was heading to the same town as I was, just a 15-minute drive away. I offered to drive him and he gratefully accepted. We had a lovely chat on the way and I learned some of his history and the fact that he was 87 and heading to the hospital where his only daughter stayed. His daughter had mental disability. A tear fell down his cheek as he told me about her. I managed to hold it together but barely. As I dropped him to the entrance of the hospital, I gave him the bunch of flowers I had in the car which I had given to my mum on Mother’s Day, forgetting she wouldn’t be home to enjoy them.
I would much rather see them enjoyed by him and his daughter than take them back home. Tears rolled down his cheeks and he thanked me. As I made my way back to my car, I totally lost control of my emotions and cried like a baby. I was very glad to be able to help him in some way.

32.推理判断题。根据第二段中的“First, it’s worth noting that the majority of research on the topic of co-sleeping with petshas focused on dogs rather than cats. Mark Fierstein, an internal medicine specialist at NYULangone Health in New York City, suggests this is because cats may want to play or even purposely wake up their owner. Rabbits or hamsters are also out of the question.(首先,值得注意的是,大多数关于与宠物共眠的研究都集中在狗身上,而不是猫。纽约市纽朗格尼健康中心的内科专家马克·菲尔斯坦认为,这是因为猫可能想要玩耍,甚至故意吵醒它们的主人。兔子或仓鼠也不在考虑之列)”推知,狗是最合适的分享床铺的宠物。故选B。
