Dear Linda,
I’m sorry to hear that you’re upset at being laughed at by your classmates because of your obesity. But I think it’s unnecessary for you to care about that.
In my opinion, you are great as you are. After all, it is what you are rather than how you look that counts. On the other hand, I have some advice for you if you want to lose some weight. Firstly, change your eating habits and keep a balanced diet, which will help prevent diseases. Secondly, take exercise regularly, which is a good way for you to get rid of your obesity. Thirdly, make sure you get enough sleep.
If you follow my advice, you are sure to look nice and feel good. I hope you can get out of trouble soon.
Yours,
Li Hua

Text 1
W: You seem to be upset. What has happened, Robert?
M: I must hand in the report to Mr. Smith this morning, but I won’t finish it until this afternoon. In this case, Mr. Smith will be angry.
W: Well, just relax, Robert. It’s OK to finish it today.
Text 2
W: Do you have the Oxford English Dictionary?
M: Sorry, they’re sold out. As it’s the beginning of the new term, many students have come for one. But it’ll be available next week, or you can try some other stores along the street.
Text 3
W: Can I help you, sir?
M: Hello. I want to make an appointment with the doctor for the sharp pain in my chest this afternoon. I’ll leave work at 5, so can I see the doctor half an hour later at 5:30?
W: I’m sorry. All the appointments are filled. Well, perhaps I could fit you in half an hour after that, if you don’t mind.
M: That’ll be great. Thank you.
Text 4
M: Good morning, Madam. May I help you?
W: Good morning. I need to cash this cheque.
M: Certainly, Madam. Please fill in this form and sign your name. And I want to see your ID card and your saving account book please.
W: Sure. Here you are.
Text 5
M: Hi, Linda. I haven’t seen you for ages. I miss you very much. Have you graduated from college?
W: Yes. I graduated last year and got a job in a publishing company. How about you, Henry?
M: Well, I’m now working in the City Bank.
Text 6
M: Mary, I get hotel room number 13. It has a mountain view for quite a cheap price!
W: Don’t you know that number 13 is an unlucky number?
M: Well, I don’t believe such things.
W: But I do. I didn’t pass the driving test because my registration number was 13.
M: It doesn’t make sense at all for me. You didn’t pass just because you didn’t study hard. Life is what you make it! If you believe something, it will happen!
Text 7
W: How is your stay here at our hotel, Sir?
M: Well, pretty good! All the staff here are friendly and very helpful. I’m not easy to please, but the meals are great! By the way, can you arrange a candle light dinner for us tomorrow? It is our twentieth wedding anniversary.
W: Oh, congratulations then. What time would you like to have it?
M: If it isn’t too much trouble, I want to make it 8 pm. As for the menu and decoration, we leave it to you. I’m sure you will do the best for us.
W: OK. In that case, we’ll arrange it at the riverside. It will be very romantic.
Text 8
M: Have you bought the computer game War Craft 2, Jane?
W: Yeah! I bought it the day it was released. It’s a great game. There are a lot of new characters.
M: Did it cost very much?
W: It cost about thirty dollars. Actually, most games cost about that much. My roommate always wants to play it. But I told her to buy her own game.
M: Well, my roommate likes to watch me play. He says it’s like watching a movie. But he never plays a computer game, saying that it’s no fun getting crazy about computer games. Instead, he puts most of his time in his studies.
W: But what he says makes sense. After all, our main work is to learn our lessons.
Text 9
W: I heard there was an accident yesterday. Is that true?
M: Yes, that is true. I was there yesterday. I just came out of the city museum and was on my way to the school library, and witnessed such an accident.
W: Was it terrible?
M: Yes, it was. The man on the motorbike tried to overtake the car in front of him, but there was a truck coming from the opposite direction. Before he realized it, he was hit by the truck and was seriously hurt. The truck driver was just shocked.
W: What did you do when you saw the accident?
M: I did nothing. I was too afraid because there was much blood. Luckily a man nearby saw this and called the ambulance, and the man was sent to hospital.
W: Well, you should be careful when riding a motorbike, or you’d better buy a car.
M: Well, at the thought of what I have seen, I feel terrible.
W: Try to forget it. Erase it from your memory.
Text 10
Old people have worked hard all their life and should be shown appreciation and kindness. This idea of appreciating the elderly stayed in my head and I decided it was time to step up an organization to help them. So, in 2013, two years after I entered Orange High School, I founded an organization called Love for the Elderly.
My interest in writing led me to create the organization, where people from all across the globe send letters filled with kindness and joy. I then send these letters to senior centers, nursing homes, and retirement communities located all across the country. Up to now, I have collected over 1,000 letters, and the response I have received from these places has been truly unforgettable.
This past month, I had the opportunity to receive $100 as the prize I won in a contest. This money has been of great help for my organization. We don’t get much money from the government or other organizations, so this money helped to pay for many costs. Next, I plan to set up a food bank for old people in my city.
