My mum is not good at cooking. She often cooks breakfast food for dinner. And one night she makes dinner after a long, hard day at work. When we’re little kids, we all want to have some good friends. As we grow up, we still want some close friends. In fact, true friends are those we shouldn’t miss (错过).

People may have many friends. But not all of them can be called true friends. True friends always love us and stay with us. In our lives, true friends always listen to us and tell us the truth. When we do something wrong, they always tell us what to do.

People find that babies as young as 18 months can help with housework. When parents say to those babies, “Just look at the paper,” they will pick it up.

Some parents think childhood is just for playing, so they don’t ask their children to do housework. Some parents think that their children get much schoolwork every day, and they are too busy for housework. Some parents say, “I know it’s wrong, but it’s quicker to do it by myself!” Other parents believe that doing housework is a way of teaching kids responsibility (责任). Children learn to help, share and care about others by doing housework.

If the child has much schoolwork after school, the time for housework may be really short. So, parents should think over how much homework a child already has, and plan housework carefully. Be sure of more housework on the weekend but not on weekdays. And some families also find a good solution: doing some easy housework together each night, for example, putting away toys and doing some cleaning after meals. It saves time and gets everyone to make a cleaner family.

Doing housework is a good way for growing a better child and better parents. Parents should be a model for their children. Some young children are happy to do housework because when they are doing what mom or dad does, they feel more grown up. So, let’s do housework together with family members.

Let’s Have City Walking

How can you learn about a city? Maybe you can try city walking.

In city walking, there are many kinds of themes (主题) for city walkers, such as old buildings, delicious food, famous places and so on. Along the way, they always take photos, listen to the guide and join in fun activities (活动).

The idea of city walking is growing in China. Xiao Xiao has her own city walking workshop in Changsha, Hunan. There are over 30 city walking themes like old buildings, films, food and communities (社区) in her workshop. She says that people show great interest in these themes. And more than 3,000 people join in her city walking activities since 2019.

Zhang Xiaoxin is a newcomer to Changsha. She joins in city walking about old communities in Changsha. I think Changsha is really a lively city,” she says. Along the walk, Zhang and her teammates also have a fun activity—take photos and match them with the sounds of the city.
