Climate change, pesticides and land use changes alone cannot fully explain the decline in insect populations in Germany. Scientists from the Leibniz-Institute of Freshwater Ecology and Inland Fisheries (ICB) have now discovered that regions that have experienced a sharp decline in flying insects also have high levels of light pollution.
The biomass (生物量) of flying insects has decreased by more than 75 per cent — this alarming figure made front page news in autumn 2017. The study, published in 2017, analyzed trends in biomass of flying insects in selected protected areas within agricultural landscapes over the last 27 years, and concluded that changes of climate and habitat are to blame for the decline in insect populations. At the same time, they pointed out that these impacts alone are unable to explain this dramatic decline.
The scientists analyzed all recent studies on the effects of artificial light at night on insects, and found that there is strong evidence to suggest a credible link between light pollution and declines in insect populations. For example, flying insects are attracted by artificial light — and, at the same time, are removed from other ecosystems — and die from exhaustion or as easy prey.
A decline in insect populations in agricultural areas not only means a decline in species diversity, but also endangers important ecosystem services. Also, changes in the occurrence and behaviour of pests such as aphids or their enemies such as beetles and spiders can disturb the balance of this well-tuned system. Furthermore, artificial light at night may also have a direct impact on the growth and flowering time of plants, and therefore on yield.
The overview study shows that artificial light at night is widely present and can have complex impacts in agricultural areas, with unknown consequences for biodiversity and crop production. Thus, light pollution should be generally considered as a potential ecosystem disturbance in future studies to identify ways in which practical steps can be taken to reduce environmental concerns.
4.What is the new finding of IGB?
A.There is an insect decline in Germany.
B.Light pollution may cause an insect decline.
C.Artificial light at night is widely present.
D.Climate change is a reason for the insect decline.
5.What did the study lasting 27 years focus on?
A.The impacts of light pollution. B.The varieties of flying insects.
C.The reasons for climate changes. D.The population of flying insects.
6.What is paragraph 4 mainly about?
    A.The cause of insect decline.
    B.The areas experiencing insect decline.
    C.The consequence of insect decline.
D.The species suffering from insect decline.
7.In which section may the text appear in a newspaper?
    A.Environment. B.Health. C.Technology. D.Society.

Founded in 1998 by Andrzej Adamcio, the company called Anmet was originally started to provide manufacturing companies with solutions for metals recycling. In 2014, Adamcio began to recognize that there was a growing need for solutions, for recycling composite wind turbine blades (复合风力发电机叶片) at the end of their life spans. Using his experience in metals recycling, Adamcio began to work on ways to recycle glass and carbon fiber composite blades, and today, wind blade recycling has become one of Anmet’s main focuses and a major area for growth going forward.
In the long term, Anmet’s recycling solution involves the physical repurposing (赋予新用途)of glass fiber wind turbine blades. The company’s services start on-site: representatives will travel to a wind farm and dismantle the blade into sections, followed by transport of the parts back to the Anmet’s facility for reconstruction into architecture or infrastructure products. There are several environmental advantages to this type of recycling. For example, repurposing blades rather than completely destroying them via burning, breaking them into pieces or other means costs less energy, is less costly and produces less emissions and dust.
The company has filed patents for other infrastructure solutions currently going through testing at Rzeszow University of Technology, including geotechnical blocks (岩土工程砌块) for road slope strengthening. Replacing typical steel or steel-strengthened concrete road barriers with repurposed glass fiber wind blade components enables greater resistance to damage from corrosive(腐蚀性的) soil environments. The blocks can be adapted in shape to fit the needs of a particular situation. So far, Anmet has built and trialed early models of these blocks, and is working toward registering them for construction use within the European Union, with hopes of extending into the U.S. market as well.
    8.What was Anmet’s initial focus?
A.Manufacturing wind turbine blades. B.Dealing with metal recycling.
C.Recycling wind turbine blades. D.Extending life spans of wind blades.
9.What does Anmet aim to do in the future?
A.Build wind blades without using carbon fiber.
B.Repurpose retired wind blades for infrastructure.
    C.Reconstruct wind farms into architecture.
D.Deal with wind blades using energy-consuming ways.
10.What does the underlined word ”dismantle“ in Paragraph 2 probably mean?
    A.Take apart. B.Break through. C.Cut in. D.Turn down.
11.What can we know about Anmet’s geotechnical blocks?
A.They are filled with steel or steel-strengthened concrete.
B.They can scarcely fight against corrosive soil.
C.They can be adjusted for a special circumstance.
D.They have been used in road building in the USA.

Growing up, I’ve always been compared to my mother in appearance, personality and for my caring nature. It’s my favorite praise because my mom is the most influential woman in my life. The world has considered healthcare workers as modern heroes, which is a truly deserved title, but my mom proved her hero status to me years ago.
My mother worked as a registered nurse at Temple University Hospital. Recently, she was offered a position in Temple’s cardiac intensive care unit. During the past two years of the pandemic, my mom has been consumed with work as a nurse at Temple University Hospital, caring for hundreds of COVID-19 patients. She contracted the virus twice, resulting in the loss of her taste and smell. Although her work can be an emotional rollercoaster (过山车), she never faltered in her desire to help people.
Before working as a nurse, when I was four and my sister was two years old, my mom was a stay-at-home mom. She often got her hands full at home and began a part-time cashier position at Toys “R” Us, but she knew she had a more fulfilling career path ahead of her. She was driven by her passion to help people and enrolled at the Community College of Philadelphia in January 2009 to complete an associate degree in Culture, Science, and Technology.
As young kids, my sister and I tended to get in the way of my mom’s schoolwork, often distracting her by making messes around the house and constantly yelling out her name. Still, we sometimes managed to help her.
During the holidays, our house was decorated with Christmas-themed stuffed animals (动物玩偶) on our couch. One day, my sister and I saw my mom talking to them and we thought she looked silly, so I asked her what she was talking about. She said she was giving the stuffed animals an important presentation because she was anxious about doing it in front of her classmates.
    注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
    2.请按下列格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Needing to be involved, I ran upstairs and grabbed my favorite stuffed animals.

One day when I was seven, my mother decided to apply for nursing degree.

    【答案】1.A 2.D 3.B

根据文章第二段“Immersive art is not just a technical way to represent video and audio in huge spaces. The word immersive indicates a deep commitment of intentions which connect images and sounds in a way that the audience is able to experience a different way of the art.(沉浸式艺术不仅仅是在巨大空间中表现视频和音频的技术方法。沉浸式这个词表明了一种深刻的意图,通过将图像和声音连接起来,让观众能够体验到一种不同的艺术方式)”以及第三段“True to its name, this exhibition transforms the iconic paintings of Vincent van Gogh into moving, wall-filling projections. “Immersive Van Gogh” promises half-a-million cubic feet of projections that pull from some of the post-impressionist’s most recognizable pieces, including The Bedroom, Sunflowers and, yes, The Starry Night.(正如它的名字一样,这次展览将文森特·梵高的标志性画作变成了移动的、充满墙壁的投影。Immersive Van Gogh承诺将使用50万立方英尺的投影,呈现出印象派最著名的作品,包括《卧室》《向日葵》,没错,还有《星夜》)”可知,沉浸式艺术是一种将图像和声音连接起来的新型艺术形式,本次梵高绘画展演就是要通过沉浸式艺术展现。由此推知,本次展演将通过一种新的方式呈现。故选A。
根据文章第五段“To be announced before the exhibit opens, existing ticket holders will receive an email with the place name and location once it is made public.(在展览开始前宣布,一旦公开,现有的门票持有者将收到一封附有地点和地点的电子邮件)”可知,想要得到本次展演的确切地点,只能通过电子邮件。故选D。
根据题干“a couple with a 5-year-old child who would like to own a Van Gogh cushion (一对夫妇和一个5岁的孩子,并且想拥有一个梵高坐垫)”可知,一共有两个成人,一个五岁的小孩,并且想要梵高坐垫。再结合“Ages 6-16 (children 5 and under do not require a ticket)”可知,五岁以下的小孩不需要门票。再根据题干中“own a Van Gogh cushion”可知,想要得到一份Van Gogh cushion必须其中一人购买VIP TICKETS,即需要$99.99。 所以a couple with a 5-year-old child who would like to own a Van Gogh cushion (一对夫妇和一个5岁的孩子,并且想拥有一个梵高坐垫)至少需要$154.98。故选B。

    C

    【答案】8.B 9.B 10.A 11.C

根据文章第一段“Founded in 1998 by Andrzej Adamcio, the company called Anmet was originally started to provide manufacturing companies with solutions for metals recycling. (Anmet公司由Andrzej Adamcio于1998年创立,最初是为制造企业提供金属回收解决方案。)”可知,Anmet公司最初的重点是处理金属回收。故选B项。
9.推理判断题。根据文章第二段“In the long term, Anmet’s recycling solution involves the physical repurposing (赋予新用途)of glass fiber wind turbine blades.(从长远来看,Anmet的回收解决方案涉及玻璃纤维风力涡轮机叶片的物理再利用。)”
根据划线词之前“In the long term, Anmet’s recycling solution involves the physical repurposing (赋予新用途)of glass fiber wind turbine blades. The company’s services start on-site: representatives will travel to a wind farm(从长远来看,Anmet的回收解决方案涉及玻璃纤维风力涡轮机叶片的物理再利用。公司的服务从现场开始:代表将前往风电场)”以及划线词之后“the blade into sections, followed by transport of the parts back to the Anmet’s facility for reconstruction into architecture or infrastructure products.(将叶片分成几个部分,然后将这些部件运送回Anmet的工厂,重新组装成建筑或基础设施产品。)” 故选A项。
根据文章第三段“Replacing typical steel or steel-strengthened concrete road barriers with repurposed glass fiber wind blade components enables greater resistance to damage from corrosive(腐蚀性的) soil environments. The blocks can be adapted in shape to fit the needs of a particular situation.(用重新利用的玻璃纤维风叶片组件取代典型的钢或钢增强混凝土道路屏障,可以更好地抵抗腐蚀性土壤环境的破坏。这些砌块可以根据特定情况的需要进行形状调整。)”可知,Anmet的岩土工程砌块可以根据特殊情况进行调整。故选C项。

    48.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使其构成一篇完整的短文。
    注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
    2.请按下列格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Needing to be involved, I ran upstairs and grabbed my favorite stuffed animals.

One day when I was seven, my mother decided to apply for nursing degree.
    ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Needing to be involved, I ran upstairs and grabbed my favorite stuffed animals.Very happy, my sister also took her own stuffed animals down to help. Thinking the stuffed animals as her classmates, my mother practiced the presentation again and again. Gradually, she became more fluent and more confident. My mother gained the associate degree that she wanted eventually. My mother took care of us as before and tried her best to learn more knowledge she needed.
One day when I was seven, my mother decided to apply for nursing degree.Once again, stuffed animals became useful. My sister and I sat aside and watched my mother preparing for her nursing degree. She gained her degree more easily than before. Willing to help others, my mother devoted herself to her career which she had pursued for a long time. My mother received recognition from many people. Now, under the influence of my mother, the hero of me, I also become a nurse.
